      Acro trainer might not have existed 8 years ago! I see references to in in betaflight 3.4, but I didn't check earlier. I too jumped straight in acro mode. If I fly a drone in angle or horiz it just feels wrong!

    Just skip all that go straight to acro. Those other modes will just slow your progress and you will develop bad habits.

    • @BrodieReed
      @BrodieReed  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on if acro is the main goal at the time.. If someone just wants to try FPV the last thing I’d be doing is telling them to learn how to fly acro straight off the batt before allowing them to fly with goggles on 🤷‍♂️

  • @AlyxFPV
    @AlyxFPV ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't teach people to bad habits!
    No angle mode, no horizon mode, only pure Acro/Air mode!!!
    The only reason you need angle mod is if you don't have GPS on board and can't use GPS rescue , you switch to angle mode and try to gain altitude to get your video signal back!
    If you can't fly Acro don't even start in real life, spend more time in the sim until you learn how to fly,turn where you want and not where drone is turning and learn how to safely land!!!, otherwise you might kill someone or smash something.
    Real FPV drone doesn't have a panic button.
    Peace!

      Interesting take but I guess I will have to agree to disagree ✌️ The idea of getting someone into the hobby and experiencing what FPV has to offer in the first place doesn’t have to be a super difficult journey. Instead offering angle mode as a fun way to start flying a drone with goggles on is in my opinion an awesome way to begin 🙂

      Different people have different reasons to fpv. I started ACRO and switched to 3D after only a couple months. but not everyone wants or needs to fly acro. Some people are out there having more fun than you and me, just cruising around with their avata and motion controller. Fun is what it is about after all, so they are doing it right.

    • @kurtzFPV
      @kurtzFPV ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Flexo3D As someone who wishes they'd learned acro much sooner, I agree with you. People should fly however they want. But if someone does want to fly acro, I think the sooner the better. But even then a short time in angle mode I think is valuable for learning throttle control, since it is one of the more difficult parts of flying for the new pilot.

    • @FPVPV
      @FPVPV ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they shut got directly to acro when I learned i lost a lot of time on angle and horizon the best way to learn is simulator pure acro and then real life acro ,i taught more than 4 guys to fly acro my crew so i can for sure tell you this is the fastest way there was one that was not flying sim until he realized that everyone learned faster than him 😂😂 so he started sim and a few days later he was other pilot 😁

    Ok folks here's a thought... Pretend like acro is the only mode. Get a simulator, use it until you're comfortable. Go fly. There saved y'all 8 minutes

  • @bluefpv3263
    @bluefpv3263 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    just dont use horizon mode it really doesnt help much just get some stick time in the sim and go fly in acro
    only thing horizon is maybe good for is for landing
    angle mode is for cinewhoops or flying inside with tinywhoops
    imo you shouldnt learn to fly in any other mode than acro cause it teaches you bad mucsle memory that is usless after swtiching to acro mode at some point
    its way easier to go from acro mode to angle mode
    the best thing for learning to fly a fpv drone is to go get a sim and fly for like 20 hours just complete all the races that teaches you some throttle control and cornering and you are good to go

    • @BrodieReed
      @BrodieReed  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the thing to think about is that starting out acro can and is VERY daunting for beginners, especially if they’ve flown DJI drones in the past. So starting out with angle mode is a great entrance into the hobby to help them understand if it’s something that they actually want to spend the next 20+ hours learning. I agree with horizon mode, it’s more for a bit of fun, don’t spend too much time on it, flip around a few times with the goggles on and experience it then move forwards with excitement! ✌️

      @@BrodieReed ye i can see your point if you are coming from dji camera drones angle mode is not that bad to easy you into flying acro cause you arldy got different muscle memory from flying the camera drone anyway
      i guess it helps with getting used to wearing goggles too

    nice explanation, thank you! For me using angle is still great if I want to do a nice orbit shot as easier to control and smoother, then I whack it in acro if I wanna do freestyle or more dynamic shots!

  • @IpokeSmot420
    @IpokeSmot420 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Angle and horizon mode should not be used, ever. They teach you bad habits for flying FPV. Beginners should start with acro mode on the sim from day one. Anyone that tells you to learn angle/horizon mode first is steering you wrong. Sorry, but this is all bad advice.

      I could agree with your statement, if the person wanted to excel, only at flying acro, but was learning how to fly a completely different style. This would be counterproductive, and possibly a lot of time that could otherwise be spent learning the style that is the main goal, as it is a different muscle memory. But if a person wanted to fly angle, and that was their goal, why not just fly angle? I love the full control acro, and I have a use for other modes, as well, depending upon my intention of the flight, and how I want the video to look, but I'm me. I'm not everyone else.

    Well-produced informative video! Been digging your beginner to fpv series. And I loved the Jacuzzi Jay interview. Absolutely love that guy!
    I might make one suggestion. Instead of labelling it as "modes" one through four, maybe label them as step 1 through 4 as you have in the video.
    Mode 1, 2, 3 and 4 are historically your gimbal configuration that determines which axis is your throttle, pitch, yaw, and roll...
    For instance, the de-facto standard is mode 2, with throttle and yaw on the left stick and pitch and roll on the right. But guys who come from flying RC planes or playing video games might prefer modes one, three or four. It may cause a bit of confusion with some people.. 😊✌🏻

    Good tip, and good advise. Did not know of Acro Trainer mode. For chapter notes in description, would just label Angle mode, Acro mode, etc. vs. Flight mode 1, 2, etc. Otherwise great video, and clear explanations.
    For me, dealing with gentle breeze was challenging when first trying to fly LOS as changed directions.

    There's kinda a 5th mode. In BF acro mode shows up as AIR on the OSD. But, if you turn off "Airmode permanently on" and you can turn off airmode with a switch, the OSD changes from AIR to ACR. I turn off airmode and fly ACR when low speed flying with my cinewhoop, but otherwise fly in AIR (acromode with airmode on).

    I tried acro-trainer mode for my first real fpv flights, but I found myself using full acro mode in no time. Reason? Acro trainer still limits the angle and sometimes it can cause crashes - in scenarios where you need to perform an extreme angle maneuver to save your drone from hitting an obstacle for instance.
