believed in what way? They admitted to murdering their parents.....the CLAIM that it was due to abuse is nonsense......if you are actively being attacked, you have self defense, BUT, as soon as the attacker stops, the justification for self defense has ended....When the parents were shot in the back while watching TV, there is no way to argue that they were assaulting the kids in a way just justified any lethal forms of self defense.....the reality is, IF there was abuse, it had NOTHING to do with the murder.....

So, these two boys were sexually assaulted by their father at a young age, facing verbal, physical, and mental abuse from both parents. It’s no surprise they ended up bratty and acting out the way they did, that’s often what happens to kids who go through that kind of trauma. Some of the comments seem to overlook how serious this is. The Bible even says not to harm a child or provoke them to anger, yet that’s exactly what these parents did. Also, we shouldn’t ignore that many people in these elite circles are involved in terrible things. Who knows what else their father might have been involved in? It’s terrifying to think about, and I hope there wasn’t any trafficking or drugging going on with them as children. These boys needed mental health help, not to be thrown in prison. Yes, they clearly have serious issues, but their parents' actions played a big role in their mental state. Some people keep saying they could have just "moved out," but they don’t realize these were young, wealthy kids (18-21, just out of high school) who had their lives controlled by their father who buck broke them at age six. An actual thing that masters use to do to their male slaves in order to assert dominance and break their willful spirit. Erik’s went on until he was age 18. Their situation wasn’t normal, so it’s unfair to judge them like they were thinking rationally. Nothing about these men’s family was normal. They’re sick, and I mean that in the most literal way possible. So why are some of y’all trying to apply reasonable logic to these men like they were right in the head. I swear some of y’all don’t think 🤦🏽‍♀️

I think they need to have a lesser sentence. Years of sexual abuse by both parents. There's the letter the younger brother wrote to his cousin saying how he was scared his dad would try to come in his room at night. And then there's the Menudo singer, Roy Rossello's confession, saying he was raped and sexually abused repeatedly after his rape by their father, Jose Menendez. And still, no one thought to keep investigating. I don't agree with murder but the justice system once again failed. This is just tragic.

The reason they arent free is because back then, men being victims of abuse "wasn't a thing" according to the jury and most likely the judge as well. There was definately another case of failed justice, not saying that murdering their parents was the best solution to get out of their situation, but its been 35 years. Thats more years than they've been abused by their "parents". I really hope that they get a retrial, especially with this new evidence, They deserve freedom for the first time in their lives.

They could have transfer to a much cheaper state college/university if they couldn’t afford the Ivy League tuition even with financial aide. The way an abuser keeps you stuck is by having you depend on them. Their parents were sitting on the couch, watching TV, eating ice cream. And all these family members who support the brothers, they didn’t do anything for them. And they knew for YEARS. They didn’t go to the police, CPS, etc. They kept it a secret. They enabled the abuse. Why didn’t the brothers go after them? That’s a logical conclusion one could draw. Most people who are abused don’t go on to kill their abusers. So why does being abused make it ok to murder your parents? If that were the case, a lot of people could kill their parents and claim abuse. The brothers are where they belong. In prison for life.
