How to Use Scraps: Leftover Triangles Quilt: A Tutorial Sew with Jo! What do with triangle scraps

  • Hello...I'm so happy you stopped by to visit. Today I'm showing you how to use up leftover triangles. The bits that I am working with are left over after I made my Oversized Flying Geese blocks. You can find that video here.
I used a companion angle ruler to make those and that left me with little bits of triangles that I thought I would make something with vs just throwing them away. I came up with five blocks that I show you how to make in the video. I'll be putting mine together into a quilt.
Come and join me as I welcome you to my sewing room and play with scraps! It's another "something from nothing quilt"...and those are my absolute favorites!!
Oops. UPDATE: I forgot the links.

Good morning! Just discovered your channel. I love the idea of being frugal. Using what you have, I think your quilt will be beautiful ❤️. Frankly I'm tired of the snobs who believe you MUST spend $500.00 in fabric to make a beautiful quilt. Lordy knows our Grandma's didn't, yet they made attractive, useful items. You have a new subscriber!😊

I was just so excited when I saw you had a new “Sew with Jo” video out! I JUST LOVE THEM!!! I do hope we will get to watch you cut and press and trim also! I just don’t know how you sew them on and still cover the corners most every time. I have LOTS of trouble with that. I just LOVE your improv piecing!!! Thank you!

Don't worry about frugality, you think up ways to use what you have, in more than just quilting, which makes you a thinker from outside the square, and when it comes off, you win! That is a very useful mental exercise to practise. All those "Little Victories," make you a happy soul.

I save the snap lid boxes that lunchmeat comes in. They stack well, too. Also, nut cans are good for small items like used rotary blades, then tape shut with packing tape to dispose of them. And my hubby gets a lot of longer ziplock bags when he orders certain items that he saves for me. Good for strips!

So enjoyed this video. Found it by accident. Great idea for using those scrap triangles! I have quite a lot but all different sizes so they would be OK to use in this quilt. However I have first to continue with making your Piccadilly Star quilt. Made one block so far using greens and blues like you. However I intend to make another quilt using pinks and lilacs so I have a boy and girl quilt. I know a couple who are expecting a baby at the beginning of September and they’re not going to find out beforehand whether baby will be a boy or girl. I think that’s lovely, like the old days when I had our two children. Read your blog faithfully ever day and have done for many years. Carry on doing what you do Jo, you are a inspiration to us all. ❤❤

I have a collection of empty chinese containers, clear rectangular and round white with clear lids. I like re-using and recycling, all the time. So i'd have a white bowl with lid, drop proof too. Love the concept. You could put a few more scrappy or string squares, or economy blocks, instead of some of the diamonds, to get this a bit bigger? You can do that other one, one bit at a time, maybe get a fq bundle, that will give you off cuts too, then bite the bullet, once you've got all the front/top bits.

Still watching your latest video…had to stop and check if my grocery has mini eclairs and THEY DO! So they are on my shopping list now. I too save little bits.
I only have one suggestion, I know you were distracted but in beginning part you left your rotary cutter blade open and I kept saying “Jo, close that blade before you cut yourself.”
