- The biggest question is always, "Where to study Phlebotomy in South Africa? Which companies offer learnerships? There are a couple of labs that offer the course as a learnership programme, such as the Path Care program that is mentioned on this video however you can check other pathology labs such as Ampath , Lancet, the South African Blood Services which offer Learnership programmes.
The PathCare Academy was the first center in South Africa, where phlebotomists were trained. They have also developed courses for laboratory technicians and laboratory assistants. They offer a two year learnership program that can lead to permanent employment, which is fantastic with the current rate of unemployment in South Africa sitting 32.9% in the first quarter of 2023. Successful candidates are trained in a medical laboratory and participate in classroom and workplace learning. You will have to have completed your Grade 12 with Maths or Maths Lit and Life Sciences to be considered for this program and go through an intense assessment, which includes psychometric tests. Another point to note about this profession is Phlebotomists don't usually give injections or administer intravenous drugs or any kinds of fluids for patients as these things do not come their expertise, aka they are not nurses or doctors of any kind.

So it means the only route to do it is via a learneship, you can't study it anywhere else, i liked this for my younger brother.The is a Lancet learneship open now but they want maths hey and he did maths lit, so I realised most of these learneships wants maths and physics , but I stand to be corrected, BY the way Thank you for your great content I'm sure is a lot of work behind the scene, please keep on pushing!❤

"Hey. When I did the learnership we got R3500 stipend in 2014 and when we became 2nd year in 2015 the stipend went up to R5k"

It's Viro Care, but when I went back to the person who gave me the information, she said they dont have a website. They only take 20 people per year, and it looks like they work with certain institutions who bring them the people. I won't lie, I was left confused.

Phlebotomy is not similar nor it is technical than nursing.Nurses can also take bloods but do alot more than that.

@@liferesetwithbonidepends on the hospital. Most private hospitals have labs. I don’t know about the government hospitals but they have NHS that also hires phlebotomists
Rn get paid more than phlebotomy when working in blood lab
