Sage is hardly a side character shes the secondary antagonist. She's as much a main character as soldier boy or stormfront.
Colin is a plot device, Sage is the plot.
All the same, Colin, even for a plot device, seems real hollow. His characterization starts and ends with, he's nice. Colin's presence rings distinctly as a waste of time when other plot device characters don't.

My guess is forgiveness, so that Frenchie can forgive himself for his past. Again, not exactly a groundbreaking development. But we shall see.

The frenchie storyline reeks of "give a character something to do". I get that the showrunners want to keep the show as an ensamble but sometimes not all the characters should have a c plot in a season, its fine if you sitdown a character for a season.
His story arc is supposed to emulate the common theme of the season: that people have horrible pasts, but can they change who they were? Starlight bullying Firecracker and blinding a mother. Hughies mum leaving them. Kimiko giving the other girl the scar. Homelander being the victim of scientists.
I don't mind Frenchie's character arc, I don't fully love it either. Personally, I'm willing to let them cook for the moment
I thought I was the Only who thought that about Frenchie 😅. Maybe I gotta go & rewatch the last season but I felt that him & Kimiko still could've been progressing their weird relationship. Can't remember exactly but I think they dated or something in the comics. I guess though when looking at it Frenchie really didn't have anything to do. I would've made him more crucial in solving Kimiko speech problems or something
Have you forgot about what the season theme is about? It's about the mess up things that happen to the characters or what they done in the past that's finally catching up to them. Now they have to face their past in order to be free of it.
@@trehubb6144 You should. In Season 3, Kimiko describes her and Frenchie's kiss as "weird" which Frenchie agrees with and claims they are "more than that." She notes that Frenchie is her *family,* so ultimately, they agree that their relationship will never evolve into a romantic one.

Typically The Boys handles stuff like this realistically, so hopefully it ends up how it usually does.

I didnt feel like he matched the energy until that final scene with Frenchie but I was happy to see Collin's actor outside of the Disney umbrella. Ive only seen him in OUAT & Life Sentence so CW is pretty on the nose lol

What's sad is that Frenchie in the comics is like Walter White high on meth, coming up with insane solutions or deadly inventions using his chemistry skills to help Butcher and The Boys. In the first two seasons of the show, we kind of see that Frenchie. If the writers wanted the character to be busy with something, Frenchie should have been the one investigating or tinkering with the new deadly virus, as it is currently not strong enough to kill Homelander, instead of his whole character being focused on flirting with Colin.

Another possible reason for Colin barely being acknowledged was that his relationship with Frenchie meant severing his romantic potential with Kimiko, something that likely didn’t resonate with a lot of people who were enthralled by their dynamic and how sweet it was.
Sacrificing it for a relationship with Colin that gets broken up in the forth episode when Frenchie’s crimes against Colin’s family are revealed makes the creative decision seem a bit pointless, though it’s understandable, as both Frenchie and Kimiko are in their own individual storylines of being confronted with people from their past that were victims of their crimes.
I don't think Kimiko and Frenchie will end up together, and I definetely don't think they should. Their strange dynamic works much better, and if they ended up together it'd just seem sort of weird to me. They have a great amount of love and adoration for each other, and they care for each other more than anyone, but... Not in that way. There's probably a lot of people who haven't been in a relationship like that, which is why they have no idea what I mean by that and don't really see what the Frenchie situation is all about and it's not really something I'm equipped to explain, but I'm just glad to see a relationship like that in fiction and I hope it doesn't get replaced with another romance with mass appeal.
Exactly, the tossed out the building romance plot between Frenchie and Kimiko, something lots of viewers were invested in, for something so much less interesting, priming the audience not to care about (and in some cases dislike) Colin from the start

I feel like a lot of the issue is padding. Like, The Boys main plot is generally pretty good and compelling, but then each season they have a tendency to add on some way less interesting B-plot to give the side characters something to do. Like "Kimiko goes to fight the group who kidnapped her" or "Frenchie has a relationship with a guy who's family he killed". They're not inherently bad plot points but they feel like underdeveloped side plots just tacked on to increase the runtime in execution.
A good team of writers would know how to connect the B-plots to the main plot seamlessly.

@@ilovenature34 I mean, I don't have an issue with the plot point itself, it just doesn't feel very natural and cohesive to the rest of the story. It feels like the writers had a fleshed out main plot and were like "oh shit we need something for Kimiko to do this season" and then they cooked it up. The way they reintroduce it is her seeing a poster and suddenly remembering "oh yeah I was kidnapped by a terrorist group, i'm gonna go kill them now". If that'd been her driving goal throughout all the seasons it'd feel natural, as it is it feels like an afterthought
@@ilovenature34 That, and I feel like there is potential for it to wind back to the main plot in some way at some point given it's a terrorist group that can easily have larger ramifications for the world. Frenchie's plot is insanely limited. If you cut Frenchie's subplot, it'd change literally nothing. Kimiko's is sort of in that category now, but it has vastly more potential to become meaningful.
I mean it probably doesn’t work bc killing a persons family and then having sex with them is one of the most morally reprehensible things in the show and not something I wanted to see one of my favorite characters do💀💀💀

Yeah, the fact that Frenchie knew that this is the person who's family he killed, and still entertained a sexual relationship with them is insanely messed up.

She tells Frenchie in season 3 that when they kissed, it felt weird because now they're family, and she wants to protect her family

She said that in Season 3 after they kissed. I knew once they wrote that, nothing was happening between the two. Why are people surprised by this?
Because it's bad writing. They changed their minds mid season then decided to make Frenchie gay.. obviously this will feel weird to the viewers. Most people don't just turn gay. If you're gonna say he's bisexual... I didn't see much of that the last 3 seasons.@@jairusjackson7799
@@jairusjackson7799 Maybe it's not so much that they're surprised, a lot of people were hoping that they'd end up together even though their relationship was clearly something other than romantic as stated by Kimiko in S3, they chose to completely ignore that and act like it never happened.
I for one am looking forward to see where the plot with Colin takes Frenchie's character instead of just calling it garbage or acting like it's ruining the show while we're only 4 (and very solid imo) episodes in.
You know, since the main theme of this season is "literally every main character tries to deal with their shitty past that's come back to haunt them for some reason", I feel like there was a missed opportunity to push Frenchie forwards and ahead of everyone else as more of a mentor/support character considering he literally already went through a "remorseful arc" with Mallory's grandkids and Lamplighter... Like, instead of giving him some random B plot with Colin that nobody is fully invested in, there could be a moment where a few members of the Boys like Annie and Kimiko are feeling shitty and expresso depresso together, and Frenchie understands how they feel but tells them that if he can move on from all the blood on his hands, then they can definitely let go of their guilt. Or something like that, idk.

I literally skipped entire scenes of Frenchie and Colin because their scenes felt like filler. Sage is directly affecting the world of the Boys in a huge way.

Sage is not a side character, she is one of the main antagonists of the show second to Homelander with a lot of s reentine.
Frenchie is usually, on his own, the secondary B plot character. While I agree that Colin is underdeveloped I don't see how he would ever get the same screen time than Sage.
Yeah I'm not sure why the 2 are being compared beside just both being introduced this season/black? Comparing Fire cracker vs Sage would be more accurate.
It’s not about the importance or position of the character it’s about their narrative use in the show. Colin has little to no narrative use, Sister Sage does.

Collin is still trash a character, he is a plot device which is developing a story arc which Frenchie already had. It's boring, also Frenchie way of act is out of character and destroyed his development in previous arcs.

I thought S4 would be dominated by Jeffrey Dean Morgan's character, but in fact, it is Sister Sage.
Yeah I was also under that impression after watching the trailer. But I feel like he’ll either play a bigger role towards the end of the season, and/or keep him as a main for the next. Maybe even replace Butcher since things aren’t lookin to good for him rn.
I was legitimately so confused when Colin was introduced. Within 30 mins he and frenchie were sleeping together and talking about how they knew each other. I thought I missed something in the earlier seasons but no. He’s just there.

I'm fine with Frenchie's storyline. But I do wish that it had been set up sooner than this. There was an emotional moment this episode, but it just didn't hit as much as it should have if there were more history between these characters.
I think that's the key here, the audience kind of gets thrown into Frenchie and Colin's subplot in the middle of it without any proper set-up. We slowly get to know why Colin is such a sore spot for Frenchie and it does come from his established hang-ups, but because the audience is completely deprived of the inciting incident (their meeting) it comes across as flat and somewhat predictable once Cherie reveals what Frenchie did. This predictability is due to this subplot retreading ground with Frenchie. I personally don't mind Frenchie's arc thus far, it does help round out this season's theme of dealing with the past, but I can honestly say that it is indeed the weakest subplot thus far
@@relic5752this is actually a sound analysis…definitely found his scenes with colin to be a little…romcomish. especially that scene where frenchie kisses colin during the riot. it felt weirdly cliche to be in the world of the boys. hopefully they make his arc somewhat more intriguing in the following episodes now that he told colin the truth.
I think that it's a way of giving frenchie more screen time before he is ultimately killed off later in the season. Him and A-Train both have that same feeling when it comes to how much development and screen time they're getting.
Atrains arc is actually involved with the main plot. Frenchies arc feels like complete filler. Frenvhies arc has felt like filler last season aswell.
The Colin situation is ridiculously contrived and makes Frenchie extra horrible for this purely selfish physical relationship with a dude whose family he killed. And coming clean is an extra, pointless violation of Colin. I want to fast forward through all the Frenchie Colin stuff.

Usually characters with super intelligence are all about tech, so it’s cool to see Sage use her super intelligence in a more psychological/strategy way.

Seems like the only people who are deeply moved by Colin's story are the pseudo "Alpha Wolf" types who howl, "They made Frenchie gay!" Like, it's 2024 and not only did they fail to notice that Frenchie was bisexual all along, but they also don't even know that bisexuality exists. Poor triggered babies.

Sage addition to the show makes totally sense for the plot and brings something new. Her relationship with Homelander is very interesting. Same for Firecracker her presence has a purpose.
Collin and Frenchie storyline in contrary so far seems to be out of place and is not interesting comparing to the others.
Yup, Especially since it's a new idea, Instead of another Supe on Homelanders tier in terms of power, He get a relatively weak supe who's only advantage is extremely Intelligence, It's like the difference between Darth Vader and Grand admiral Thrawn
Colin got introduced so quickly and was embedded in Frenchie's storyline so immediately that I wondered if I had missed something from prior seasons. Or if he got introduced in Gen V (which I haven't watched and don't plan to). That's how out of left field he is. Sage's introduction on its face makes a ton of sense; the Seven has been looking for more supes to fill its ranks literally since this show started haha. But given where the story is headed this season, her inclusion is intriguing and driving a lot of the plot.
I got so confused, that I literally watched Gen V after I saw Colin. I’m glad others felt this way because it was SO out of left field.
Gen V is actually really good, you also find out what Nuemans powers are and how they work.
Out of left field? People pursue relationships for multiple years all the time only to change their entire sexuality as soon as they encounter someone who's entire family they murdered. It makes total sense.
@@vice2versa I'm sure it is, I just worry the Boys is turning into the MCU. I guess I'm glad the main series is ending next season so that the spinoffs can exist on their own. I don't want to be forced to watch a spinoff in order to be better informed about the main series haha. Too many properties are doing that.

Frenchie shouldve had a side plot where hes desperately trying to find a way to finally kill the Top level supes, Him figuring out how to kill translucent was without a doubt his Most interesting moment as a character.
For example he could engineer Terrible/Evil Methods and the conflict is in how he's going to practice/Test out his methods.
After the ass bomb, Frenchie just keeps making gasses that don't work.
He needs something meaningful to do because I stopped caring about him a while ago

On an unrelated note, that Homelander scene “I got you everything that *I* ever wanted” was perfect. It encapsulates the character in as short a moment as possible. There’s no place for others in his heart, even when it is his son.
The issue with Collin is what you have to give up to be invested in his story. You have to give up on Frenchie and Kimiko so that he can hook up with Collin and you have to give uo the progress he made with Little Nina and Mallory so he can deal woth being a murderer all over again.

I feel the main problem is that it has nothing to do with the main plot. Colin isn't a character connected to anyone from Vaught or the boys so it feels like a waste. Kimiko and frenchies arc in last season also felt boring.

Sage moves the plot by helping Homelander plan a coup. Colin stalls it by keeping Kimiko and Frenchie apart.
I feel like Frenchie’s side stories have been getting worse each season. Like they really don’t know what to do with him, so they throw in some other character from his past we never established before.
Frenchie could ACTUALLY be of use in the war against supes. He was recruited by Mallory because of his skills as a weapon maker. He created tools to fight supes in specific situations. The problem here is that everytime he tried to do that on screen, his weapons failed. The only true success we saw from him was when he came up with a way to kill translucent but everybody seemingly forgot about it (I think he also made the device to put Soldier boy back to sleep but that wasn't really his idea, he just got the info and then acted on it). I wanna see some anti-supe weapons made by him, I don't care about this stupid drama bs

Honestly Kimiko's reaction is probably the most interesting part of Colin/Frenchie's plotline to me because that's a relationship they've built over 4 seasons and now both of them are going through past trauma without each other except Kimiko's has been established way earlier.
Since The Boys has a huge cast I think it would work better to do it Game of Thrones style where we don’t see every character in every episode. That way the episodes can focus on fewer plot points and trim the fat.
Frenchies conflict resonates with all the other group members for this season as we are seeing remnants of all their pasts come in to play, and try to see how’re they’re going to overcome them.
Episode 4 gave us that and made it less boring, but even then it's still missing something

Only reason I even slightly cared about the Colin is because I love Frenchie, give it to hughie, starlight, etc. and I would barely pay attention when he was on screen, even still I’m hoping they find a way to make him interesting so all his screen time wasn’t just a waste
What’s the point of calling someone My Heart if it wasn’t leading somewhere romantic ? I thought the whole point of Frenchie and Kimiko was that these vulnerable and damaged people finally get a healthy loving relationship even if it does take years to get there
It is healthy and loving, just not romantically. It's not that hard to understand.
Frenchie and Kimiko are basically siblings. They don't need to be romantically involved to care deeply about each other.

For me its how they go about everything with the colin plot, its all exposition and sex that's it, not to mention when frenchie finally tells him in ep 4 the actor looks like he's meant to be crying but actually isn't, i have actually noticed some of the acting this season has been sub par and you can tell theyre acting
They gave Colin one of the most emotionally and technically demanding storylines to act out (sleeping with somebody who you later find out was responsible for murdering your entire family) which is in my opinion insane. not to knock the actor himself, most people would struggle with selling that, but with the way they just jammed that (weakly-written) storyline into the plot between loads of other shit going on is just like... nah there's absolutely nothing anyone could do with that

The whole time I'm waiting for Colin to actually be a supe. Seeing his family die, he somehow gets V to avenge them or thinking maybe he's the new Noir. But the fact he's just there to be there is so damn annoying when other parts of the story deserve more focus.
I may have missed something but how the hell are we supposed to sympathize with Frenchie if he commits one of the most fucked up acts in The Boys verse, by knowingly screwing the man he orphaned.

I have a sneaking suspicion the Colin side plot functions exclusively to bring kimiko and Frenchie closer together. this season has also introduce the shining light girl who kimiko lured into the organization in the past. kimiko and Frenchie both ruined the lives of people through the organizations they were affiliated with and are struggling with how their past effects them in the present. I have other thoughts about it, but that's really the main one
honestly it's been a minute since I watched season 3 so I was genuinely so confused when Colin popped up. I still have no idea if I missed something, the writers really just dropped him into the story randomly, or if I actually just forgot about him 😭😭
I can see a pattern where the dark parts of character’s backstories are being brought up. Starlight’s mean behavior in the pageant circuit gets revealed by Firecracker, Hughie’s mom shows up, Frenchie has this plotline with Colin, Kimiko meets the girl from Shining Light, and Butcher sees hallucinations of dead people. I think the only one of The Boys who didn’t have a dark element of their past exposed was MM?
Colin being intimate with Frenchie multiple times, but not noticing the distinctive scars on his ankle? C'mon...

This video was amazing. It perfectly explained the issue with Colin while also teaching us some writing skills such as how to introduce a side character and have them leave a lasting impact. As someone who's a huge fan of The Boys and who's also trying to write their own story I appreciated this vid. You earned a sub keep up the good work
all the new characters are just plot devices: Sage, Colin and Firecracker.
I don't even remember Colin from previous seasons. I didn't have any idea who he was when he showed up in the riot episode this season. Also, it's very unlikely Frenchie will get so close to someone whose family he killed. In addition I thought Frenchie and Kimiko were a couple. This side story makes no sense and doesn't resonate.
Honestly I automatically tune out mentally a bit whenever Colin shows up. Sage is actually really interesting though.

This would’ve been better if Frenchi was solely haunted by that night. Like obviously he was taking drugs to avoid remembering all the fucked up things he did to innocent people but if he was seriously haunted by that night and then we got introduced to Colin things would be incredibly different.
Frenchie’s plot line is a knockoff of Barry.
Sister Sage is interesting and we don’t know if she’s good or bad. She’s so smart that she wants to nerf herself. And she’s a much better Assistant to the strongest man in the world, the smartest woman. Colin gets in the way of all the Mimiko drama Frenchie and her had.

SPOILER: When Colin finds out Frenchie murdered TF out of his family I had ZERO interest or immersion in that storyline. Like it came out of nowhere and if we had seen this family being murdered beforehand then it would make sense but making that reveal in the same episode where we see what happens is kinda lame. Sucks that Frenchie loses a love interest but he’ll get over it or he’ll have some “awww nobody love me cuz I am Le Monster oui oui” moment.

The thing about Frenchie is that he's their chemist, he's a decent fighter, and he was the one who brought Kimiko into the fold. They didn't need to create the sub story with Colin, because Frenchie already had his big story, and even if he's not a big force in the boys, we still care about him. Or at least i do 😊

Whats wrong with the starlight abortion plotline???? That plotline actually MOVES the storyline forward. That information directly played into Sages plans. The Colin plotline has nothing to do with the main plot so it feels like a complete waste of time.
@@vice2versait's a dumb plotline because they obviously pulled it out of their ass and retconned it. Adding something into the story in the past is generally not good storytelling. If something is necessary to move the plot forward it should already exist within the story. If a character needs a McMuffin they should go get it not "they got the McMuffin off screen last season". If they had the characters get the abortion and then it came up now to mess with them that would actually be compelling. But both the abortion and starlight being mean to firecracker were clearly just retconned into the story so that firecracker would have a reason to hate starlight and have dirt on her. It's cheap and hollow. It would be like the weight of finding out this season that hughie hates a train for killing his girlfriend when its convenient for the plot instead of us actually seeing a train kill his gf and then seeing this animosity and eventually forgiveness play out on screen. Retcons in general aren't compelling and represent lazy writing.
@@Michael-bc3es Okay that makes sense. They definitely should have lead up to those reveals. The firecracker hatred should have involved a flashback reveal of some kind before she told Starlight and the abortion should have been brought up prior. Yeah I agree with you on that one.

Hughie's side plot is also so bland and so boring. At this point I expect his mom to actually be a spy sent by Sage just to justify the amount of time they spend showing us this garbage

I like Hughie but i think any plotline that has nothing to do with the mainplot is boring. Everytime i got bored with a scene is when it felt like filler. The whole mom plot felt plucked out of nowhere so his anger towards her feels like they just inserted drama because they had to..honestly if something doesn't involve the boys vs Vaught then im bored.
im shocked that people hate hughies arc so far…i found it interesting considering how impactful his mom is to his character.
After watching the end of S4 ep4, I think your assumptions about Hughie's mum might be right. The timing is off, and Hughie's father can't validate anything she's saying or how his 'stroke' happened.

Nah Hughies mother is a hallucination. Same as Becca. Both Butcher and Hughie took loads of temp V, which is whats causing the hallucination for Butcher. No other character has actually physically interacted with her.

For Sister Sage, I don't mind her, she's cool. She's the character that took "Knowledge is Power" as a person. She could also the female version of The Legend from the OG comic book. So, The Legend is basically their own Stan Lee version who knows a lot of knowledge and same as Sister Sage, he's also surrounded with books.
Although i have absolutely no problem with Frenchie being gay throwing away his romantic relationship with kimiko and THEN randomly putting a side character with little to no discernible or likable personality traits felt horrendous and just made me more and more irritated as the shows been going on
This season ruined frenchie for me.
We knew about his past and how fcked up it was and how it haunted him. There was no need to make him an *ss who decides to have sex and seek a relatioship with the person whos family he murdered and then not even take that secret to the grave, but tell him. So now Colin not only has to live knowing his family was murderend basically in front of him, but also that he banged the murdered AND that when he found out who the murderer was, he wasnt able to kill him. LEAVE THIS MAN ALONE FRENCHIE.
ANd i get that maybe frenchie and kimiko wouldnt work because of their trauma and stuff, but this "separation" sucks
Im not surprised Frenchie is bi, the dude seems a lil freaky lol but that facet of his character with Colin was needlessly rushed. They really should have showed us that the relationship bw him and Kimiko would not work beyond being friends and slowly built the chemistry with Colin. He def feels like an afterthought.

With them ending the show next season, I have a feeling major characters are going to start dying off in ways we haven’t seen yet in the boys. I expect Colin to somehow be involved in Frenchie or Kimiko’s death this season. It’s the only explanation for introducing such a bland and uninteresting character- nobody would care if Collin died right now. BUT, he could be used as a plot device to kill off someone we WOULD care about.
I think Kimiko’s death is hinted at more- her healing factor has been on full display this season, which feels foreshadowing
One thought just came to mind: Frenchie could have become important with the latest episode where Starlights conflict with firecracker reaches it's (current) peak. Because it is similar to what Frenchie had to go through (past makes current life miserable). And he could have helped her go through it (at least a bit).
I honestly hate how kimiko and frenchie were building up a great relationship in prior seasons, and it was all just gone to waste.
Like, they were even going to move to Marseille together, and it just ended out of nowhere, to introduce 2 plotlines that were NEVER shown before, Frenchie's Relationship with Colin, and Kimiko's Internal Conflict of Shining light, and you could argue that the Shining Light thing actually was something that happened in seasons before, but that conflict ended, why did they brought it back.
I honestly wish they somehow fix up Frenchie And Kimiko's relationship, because their ending was so fucking out of place, and it feels as if the writers did not understand both characters, because somehow Frenchie became "Sweetier", and Kimiko became more like an "Asshole-ish" person, meanwhile in seasons prior, the roles were completely switched.
Even if they reverse course and try to fix up Frenchie and Kimiko, I think the damage is done. Introducing Colin like this is just lazy and stupid. Everyone sees that Frenchie's character development over the past two seasons has been wasted and the development of the Frenchie-Kimiko relationship was just abandoned, and no matter what the writers do they're not going to be able to undo that. At this point, it's damage mitigation at best.

They could've done it in a much, much smarter way, for example by making Sister Sage a lesbian, or something similar to that. And that's just off the top of my dome, a team of professional writers should not struggle to figure out something better than a random commentor on a whim.

I dont need Huey or Frenchie's stories this season. They are both redundant (as of episode 4) and reductive to their characters. Neither needed another spotlight after season 3. Sage is a great addition (though the repetitive scene of her self lobotomy in ep 4 was not needed) I would have loved more depth in the first half of S04 with JDM's character, and Ryan.
At least with Huey, they haven't gone back on his character development whereas that's exactly what they did with Frenchie. It's possible that the Huey story results in something meaningful, whereas at this point the best that can be done with Frenchie is damage mitigation.
I wish the story was a little tighter.. I have a lot less tolerance for the Frenchie storyline because he was already doing his own thing disconnected from the main plot the entirety if last season, too. If he's not gonna do anything important just let him sit on the sideline rather than taking time from the main storyline. It's starting to feel like a drama rather than a tight story with themes that's trying to say something.
For Sage, I'm not really a fan of her either.. We keep being *told* she's mega smart but I don't feel like she's really pulled off anything that genius yet? I just don't feel it's earned.. hopefully only so far? I wanna like her but is her power being omniscient or just big brained? If she's supposed to be this puppermaster I'm not really feeling it ig Edit: also I'm tired of smart characters being smart bcs they're mean to everyone, she just reminds me of Gregory House or Sherlock, but at least i knew where their strengths were, with Sage I so far feel like she just knows whatever info she needs.. unlees *that* is her superpower? You nailed it on the head. I've have been struggling to articulate why the side plots for Frenchie, and Kimiko tbh, have felt so strange. In season 3, they both were connected in some way to the main fight against Vought through Soldier Boy but in this season, not so much. It feels so disconnected to everything else and is a rehash like you said. It could be done well even if it is separate from the fight against the big bads but it needs to move the characters forward.

As far as side characters go, Sage tells the main character(s) what to do, is the effective CEO of the villain of the series, and she’s the smartest person in the world. I’d say she made out alright.
An insightful video, as always! However, as you ran through different storylines, I realized how Hughie’s mother’s introduction was a much closer parallel to Colin than Sister Sage.
She is introduced to create a conflict only localized to one character - Hughie and that’s pretty much all her interactions.
I feel like that comparison would be fairer, though I can see how having cross purpose comparisons could let us discuss side characters that influence the main plot arc vs side characters involved in a specific main character arc.
Haven't watched the video yet because of spoiler avoidance, but everyone should just keep in mind - we're only 4 episodes in. I feel like any conclusions to draw about how well or not well Colin works as a side character should be made with a grain of salt until the season is over and we see for sure what this setup amounted to.
The show has 8 episodes in a season. 4 episodes in means half the season is already over. So it's not 'ONLY' four episodes in, it's half the season is already done. They should have set up something by now.
