    This year, I've gone from a 23-inch to 30-inch vertical and have lost about 12kg since April at 48. I feel the best I've ever felt.

      I’m 48 and I got my vert from 33-34 inches from about 26 over about a little over 1 year period
      I used to be obsessed in my 20s and then I lost my obsession. But I am getting it back slowly

      @pjfperformance last year I bought your vert code elite. I'm still using the training as a template with some of my own things.

    1) have done lots of jumping
    2) have more fast twitch muscle fibres
    3) had early childhood exposure to diverse movement experiences
    4) good strength/plyometric training
    5) body composition

    I’ve trained a solid amount of people and 40 inch vertical is very possible, I’ve seen the worst genetics in the world get stuck around 37-38 inches, but really dialing in you can break past it just like anything

    • @pjfperformance
      @pjfperformance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      Facts! I think majority of people have the potential for an approach 40 inch jump. They just usually don’t crush 4/5 of these factors!

      Yall throwing around this figure like it’s nothing. At 6’2 my standing vertical reach is 8’2. Add 40 inches to that and we’re at 11’5 which is almost an elbow in the rim. So what you’re saying is almost everyone who’s 6’2 can honeydip with some training. I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to call bs

    I am not an exaptational basketball player but it is my first preference for a team sport or activity. I have been really into lifting both for strength and hypertrophy which have sports attached but by no means do I participate in them. I am also about a year older than Paul at the time he filmed this. I have always been tall at 6'3" but I didn't even make the J/HS teams and could not touch rim at 16.
    It is very bizarre when I hoop with the young bloods and they start quizzing me out on how I jump 34-38in. They often bring with them very self limiting beliefs. They almost do not believe me that genetics had nothing to do with it. I naturally fell into this check off this list. They almost do not want to believe they could jump as high with some simple actional steps. That is why I believe in the bonus number 6. If you speak a limitation over yourself then you are at a disadvantage, just not the one you are reaching for to cope with inaction.

    hello i could only imagine how tremendously busy you are but could I ask you a few questions regarding applying the shock training method (actual plyo's) to the upper body? I am particularly curious to see how/if this training would benefit the shoulder complex for the performance of internal rotation for an increased overhead throwing propulsive velocity? I am considering this for my dissertation topic for my MCS in strength and conditioning. However I question if this would be as affective for this purpose as it is for the lower body and its benefits to jumping and sprinting. For example the uniqueness of the achilise tendon being the best orientation and structure for the force vectors when loading and recoiling the person upwards, almost matching a spring. I was wondering if I could get your opinion because you are one of the best educators and practitioner that deploys plyometric training effectively on the internet to my knowledge.

    How much vertical can someone reach if they had good jumping practice, good training, good body composition and good jumping mindset but they lack genetics and early childhood development. Based on that info, realistically what vertical jump potential can that person reach? Also, another question what training program that can be used year-round for the next 5-10 years that someone should be on to reach their vertical jump genetic potential?

    training and approach jumps were two separate topics. aren't they one in the same? i assumed approach jumps would make up the bulk of intense jumps within plyometrics in a training program

    • @pjfperformance
      @pjfperformance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the programmed approach jump reps fall under training. But the real magic is the hours in your house as a kid trying to touch the ceiling, jumping to touch every doorway, playing basketball with your friends, etc. It’s not necessarily planned and periodized vertical jump training… it’s an entire lifestyle in itself.

    How to gain vert while in season? Intense practices 2x week + 1 game (I play 10/10 when I hoop). How to program? Btw: I can tolerate some fatigue as long as its in service of eventual gains! Really need some advice here 🙏

    • @pjfperformance
      @pjfperformance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Prioritize heavier weights for less volume and remove additional plyometrics IF you’re already at getting a lot of jumping on the court. The unranked in-season program is GREAT for building bounce in-season.

    • @Arcazjin
      @Arcazjin 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Managing systemic fatigue is difficult. I know I can recover from leg days 2x per week but with lots of basketball I collapsed it to 1x. Less optimal for hypertrophy adaptation but allows for more runs per week which is more specific anyway. I am old though so ymmv.

    • @pjfperformance
      @pjfperformance  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes unranked is just as good for jumping but it's also a skills program and year round strength and conditioning system. So for a non hooper, VCE is the best choice. But for a hooper trying to improve their overall game along with their bounce then Unranked is the best option.
