Western sanctions have been imposed against Syria since a civil war broke out there in 2011. It has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions. How can the country restore its former glory and return to pre-war growth and prosperity? How can China help revive and boost Syria's economy? In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Zou Yun sat down with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to discuss the country's reconstruction and its return to the international field. On his visit to China, al-Assad attended the opening ceremony of the Hangzhou Asian Games. He also held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in a bid to end more than a decade of diplomatic isolation under Western sanctions. Both presidents jointly announced the establishment of a China-Syria strategic partnership. Al-Assad pins hopes on Xi's global initiatives and on the Belt and Road Initiative, saying that China calls for a new type of international relations and rejects hegemony. He also commends the Chinese people for their patriotism and cultural confidence.

Wow ! Mr Al Assad proves here he understood perfectly the difference between the western kind of development and the Chinese one. The fact that the Chinese leadership strived to preserve the ethnic, cultural and national identity while fostering modernization is the main factor which makes the Chinese model attractive for the rest of the world. As Mr president said, many other countriea were able to have economical development (Japan, South Korea, Germany, Poland), but all failed to keep their cultural and ethnic integrity, not to mention the loss of real soverignity, as all these “countries” are virtually vassals of the United States. Only China while becoming the world’s superpower stood firm in trying to preserve its culture, its values and its ethnic character.

@@hasinarian6711 What U.S. has done to the Muslim world in the last 30 years is one of the all-time greatest atrocities. Fortunately, U.S. has shifted focus to China and doesn't have time/energy/money to interfere in the Middle East any more. Should give these countries space to grow and prosper like they should. There are so many smart and creative people in the Middle East. It should be a very prosperous part of the world.

I would add that the U.S. model falsely equates a "free market" run by the business class with a free and democratic system, and even by just existing successfully China threatens the U.S.'s self-image and disproves that fiction. Most other countries not run by the business class have been subject to some form of coup or whatever so they can't succeed unless by following the U.S. model. And the business class is killing the planet, we need some kind of different system.

What a Wonderful Interview! Many Thanks to CGTN for this great interview, and also to President Al-Assad for his mindful and thoughtful replies. What lovely comments by Chines Netizens, Bravo to you all! Syrian athletes coming into the stadium and the attendees cheering them brought tears to my eyes, what a proud moment for the Syria people, and what a great acknowledgment by China! It appears that rebuilding the basic needs like power and hospitals and such are priority number one. China, Russia, Iran and all other friendly countries can hopefully help and it will be a win-win for all.
Low rise and modular constructions. Since the area is prone to transgressions, it may be beneficial to build low-rises that are spread over a large area, instead of lots of tall buildings in concentrated areas. Also, to build modular, meaning it can easily be fixed and maintained even if one section is damaged. Also, possibly some underground structures to help maintain stability and continuity.
The so-called global superpower is NOT colluding with the terrorist, They ARE the Terrorists. They are the creators and the instigators of conflict.
So Sad to see how far the US has degenerated through its own diseases that now a days, it resorts to Stealing oil from other countries like Syria or stealing Oil Tankers like a common 2 bit criminal, it is pathetic.
An aggression towards Syria, is an aggression towards All Asian countries and Asia herself. I hope we start referring to the area as “West Asia” instead of Middle East”. Asia Unites against transgressions towards it by the satanic forces.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Standing Bear and the Majestic Phoenix unite to protect All of Asia.

As a Norwegian, I’d say that we, in the Western world are victims of our arrogance which is partly due to our ignorance! My outlook to the world changed when I went to study Arabic at the very prestigious American University of Beirut (Lebanon). That experience was transformational ! Not only it opened me the possibilities to learn and discover the cultural wealth of the Arab world and that includes Syria of course, but I discovered that the very identity of our European continent wasn’t actually only Roman & Greek as we learn in European and western history books, but it actually started in Western Asia. Europe was a Phoenician Princess born less than 70 Km from Damascus Syria, she was born in the very ancient Phoenician city of Tyre 30 km south of Beirut, in what is today Lebanon. Lebanon was called ancient Phoenicia which covered all of Lebanon and the Syrian Mediterranean coast . The Phoenicians of Byblos ( considered as the world’s most ancient city) invented and gave us the Alphabet which we all use in Europe, and the very name of our continent, came from a West Asian Princess, born in Tyre in what is modern day Lebanon. China has a lot to gain because the People of the Arab world don’t have any resentment against the Chinese, Japanese , Hindus, Koreans or the people of East Asia. Sadly, I can’t say that about the legacy of European fascist colonialism and the criminal American hegemony which shredded the region to pieces with their endless criminal wars and support of Islamist extremists through the help of Turkey, without which, the U.S wouldn’t have been able to install the fascist Islamists and to steal Syrian oil and gas.

How can the civilized world ever forgive the American atrocities committed against so many countries? I am deeply ashamed of my neocon-controlled terrorist government. President Assad is a wonderful and intelligent leader. I hope that Syria can rebuild and reach its full position!

I'm glad finally we get the see the possibility for humanity to rise up & fight against imperialism & its neo-colonial system whether you are from "the global south" countries or not. China is that beacon of light making the world to realize it can be done so peacefully.

As a left-wing political party, the CCP was born to be anti-imperialist and anti-colonial. Of course, China can help Syria in terms of trade and infrastructure, If China can complete 70% of the world's high-speed rail within ten years, then China can also rebuild Syria within ten years, but China should also help Syria in terms of sovereignty and independence.
Because what Syria is experiencing today reminds the Chinese people of the Republic of China in 1921. At that time, ROC was full of warlords, bandits, and separatists from Tibet, Xinjiang, and Mongolia. However, the Kuomintang was a dictatorial, incompetent, and corrupt right-wing fascist party that only served landlords and British and American capitalists acted as comprador to exploit and enslave the Chinese people.
However, after experiencing a series of wars, the Chinese people defeated Japan, the Kuomintang, the United Nations force, India, the Soviet Union, and Vietnam's aggression, enslavement, and encirclement of the Chinese people and rose up. During last 40 years of peace, China became the world’s largest economy.
The Chinese Communist Party helped North Korea and North Vietnam drive away French and American troops, more importantly the PLA troops withdrew after the war.
The CCP also helped Afghanistan and Cambodia drive away Soviet and Vietnamese troops, so China has no ambitions for occupying foreign territories.
I believe that the Chinese Communist Party can also help Syria drive away the US imperialism, defeat the Kurdish separatists, unify the country, become politically independent from the influence of Russia and Iran, and become a powerful country in the Middle East again.

    • @YCHTT
      @YCHTT 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

CCP does not exist unless you live in the CIA & US led west disinformation circle & media. The actual official English term is Communist Party of China or CPC. This may not seems significant. But this is how US led West propaganda begins, they setup different terms first & corrupt those terms with all kinds of make up narratives or talking points in order to create negative association towards it which would then affect average people when thinking of it. So don't underestimate the use of words as it is how our mind convey meanings or understanding them. And that's exactly how US imperialists led West knows and hence how US propaganda is second to none.

Greetings from the UK. Sadly the population of my country has been de-educated over the last forty years. My country is now in severe decay, infrastructure, culturally, intellectually and ethnically. All done to achieve the globalist vision of a world that is a disorganised, homogenous, deviant, culture less, elitist controlled morass of perfect diversity. Thank goodness we have China and Russia to stop this madness.

Mr Assad is a true gentleman and a leader that deserves the respect, love and trust of his people. His humble demeanour speaks volume in his favour unlike the leaders in the west. The terrorist U.S. has no right to be in Syria right now, stealing its resources. In spite of what the evil Americans have done and are still doing, Syria is still surviving thanks to the support of countries which do not support the hegemonic intention of the U.S. Long live Syria and Mr Assad together with his gracious wife. May Syria prosper with the help of its friends!
