So I'm a 48-year-old pop punk skatepunk guy from the mid-90s based in Texas, back right before Dude Ranch came out I wrote to Blink after hearing M&M's on The Liberation records comp and Mark wrote back saying if we wanted to go see them in Austin Texas in the next month or so he would get us on the guest list. So we show up to EMOS in Austin and Mark, Tom, and Scott are sitting in their van and nobody knows who they are I didn't even know who they were for sure because back then there wasn't too many pictures of them floating around. I walk up to them and asked if they were the guys from blink and they all said yes so my brothers and I hung out with them all night they told us they were playing two new songs from their upcoming album which was Dude Ranch and it was Apple shampoo and a New Hope . Scott and Mark were really cool Tom was a little stuck up and just kind of weird to talk to, I was talking to Mark and asked him how he jumped without banging his ankle on his bass because I was a bassist at the time and every time I jumped I smashed my ankle so he showed me the key to his jumps and after that I never hit myself again. I was playing in the band called Milhouse at the time and while we were talking we both found out that each of us covered Screeching Weasels Girl Next Door so Mark said when they came back to Texas and to my hometown that they wanted our band to open for them unfortunately the guy booking the show booked his friends band so Mark mentioned that we were supposed to open for them but since we didn't they dedicated the song girl next door to us. My brother and I stayed in contact with Mark and Scott for a bit and then they just blew up and we lost contact and that was the end of that, Mark had said that he put our bands sticker on his bass case but I never saw any pictures of his bass case so I don't know if it was still there or what but that's my blink story from the '90s.
Bro just, take the strings off and put them in a zip lock bag. But play that guitar man. It deserves to be played. I’m not saying take it to bars or something. But it deserves to be played man.
y not. i think to thunk that it shadd be able to accom pony an individual to a alcoholic cold beverage drank a lanking establishyoshi estblashisednessous mints. bentMINT
I get his point though. If it’s real, get another Les Paul and just play that. He probably has plenty of others to play. Honestly, there are many better guitars to play than the Arnette anyways. This is a collectible.
Disagree. Theres a zillion les pauls out there. Buy one of those to play and put this one on the wall...just dont put it in a case never show it off...
This guitar isn't THAT special. It doesn't have THAT much history on it. It was played for what..one year by an artist in a pop punk band? You'll be doing a service to the guitar by playing it. Just like cars shouldn't be sitting in garages, guitars shouldn't be sitting in display cases. Greeny is a perfect example of a guitar with much more rich history that people think should be put on display, yet kirk paid between 1 and 2 million dollars for it and plays it at almost every show. Play it.
Yep. I mean, if playing the guitar would destroy it, sure, don't do it, but it won't. Just plug it in, volume to the right and blast some Dude Ranch classics out on it.
There are plenty of Les Pauls out there...some even nicer or more geared towards you. Buy and play those. This is a collectable. I dont even like to play my KC Fender Jaguar cuz it was his...sort of...its just a perfect replica and im hesitant to mess with it abd there arent a ton of lefty jaguars out there either.
@@tricktaylor I 100% disagree with you. I’m not saying play it every day, I’m saying play it once or twice to see how it sounds/feels/having the honour of doing it. I’m well aware there is other les Paul’s about, I own a Gibson goldtop standard.
super stoked that this one has actually surfaced, as a backup this is in much cleaner shape than the other black one littleredguitars had. My dream would be Tom's wine red LP or Mark's '98 green Stingray bass. I Actually got a black Stingray made October '94 pretty close to Mark's original black Stingray. A week ago. Happy new guitar day bro, I love the podcast, sometimes I'll just chill out in my car after work, having a smoke and listening to your podcast. Been a blink/gear geek since Enema.
Thanks dude!!! Yeah we don’t know what happened to the “Wine Red” other than it went to Kut U Up along with “Lady Luck”, probably sitting in storage somewhere.
When my brother's and I hung out with the original Blink Boy's Mark said his style was influenced by the bassist from Ned's Atomic Dustin which was a late 80's early 90's alternative band. They had two bassist one which played a black and white Stingray (you van here Mark sound like him in early Blink) and the other played a Rickenbacker. Godfodder is the only album worth listening to but if you listen to the song Happy you'll hear where Mark's sound and tone came from especially on songs like Waggy ( I did a drum cover of it on my channel 👍).
If you’re not gonna play it then 100% go for display case and plaque with a description, that way this thing doesn’t somehow get lost again in the (distant) future once you pass it on or whatever happens to it, and it comes to someone who doesn’t really know what it is all over again. Truly a piece of punk history
WoW! congratulations on this acquisition. I'm also a huge blink fan and always look forward to hearing a new episode of your podcast. I see myself in you so much and every time something cool happens to you, I'm so happy for you (and a little jealous). Your podcast, your research, your connection with Mark, you have so much accomplishment. On another subject, when I found out about your newborn too, I was very sad. I experienced the same thing in 2016 with my son. I'm glad to hear that all is well now. California was the soundtrack of this event for me. With that, good luck! From a guy from Quebec, Canada who doesn't speak English very well and who uses Google translate 😅
Watched a video of the wine red billabong Les Paul when they played on the warped tour here in Australia in 98 and it had all 4 control knobs and the selector switch up top still in place
Blink 182 gear nerd and baseball nerd? You and I would either be best friends, or we would passionately hate each other. Either way, great channel man!
wow man! normally I don't care for these things but just like you said. It's a piece of history, more so of those great years and just the joy in your voice and face from getting the guitar makes me happy for you! Congrats. Never let it go, unless Tom wants it back haha!!
Damn shame that the story of that guitar ENDs right there. No more playing, no more blink songs. it's been dormant all this time, and finally someone gets it who will appreciate it, and he decides to chain it up, and throw it away for a wall hanger. All respect to you dude, but that thing was meant to be played.
I totally understand that viewpoint, I just come from a collectible world where it’s a piece of history that shouldn’t be altered imo. If I got a Babe Ruth used bat, I wouldn’t use or modify it in anyway. I wouldn’t change out the shoe strings on Michael Jordan used sneakers and wear them to miss shots in my driveway. Both those examples would devalue the items in most collectors’ minds, which is where I’m coming from. Hope that helps clarify my stance somewhat haha! It’ll be safe and cherished which is what is important to me. I’ll tune it and see if it even works!
@@182newspod just totally disagree. It’s not a collectible, it’s an instrument. It was built and modified and tuned up and played. It has songs that have yet to be written on it.
