The instructors would taunt the soldiers all the time "why suffer so much, get on the bakkie, have a nice shower and rest". There were more intense filtering processes in the parabats (physical) and recce groups (psycological).

The reason it’s criticised is because it didn’t help them with rugby. But don’t act like those boys couldn’t handle it, if they can’t, no one can.
