so you just unbolt the intake manifold and it lifts up out of your way, then unbolt the t-stat and swap it out?why does that seem TOO EASY to be true? considering what a dealer/shop would charge?

got a p0381 code, replaced the temp sensor(oem) at the back of the engine along the fire wall, (had to remove the intake tube with that little 5mm allen bolt you spoke about, REAL PITA, used an allen wrench that's about 4-5 inches long and used it horizontally the long way, just fit). got it all back together, started the car up and the CEL was gone, didn't have to erase it or anything. Drove around for a while all day and no problems. Then this morning I go to warm the car up, no issue, go back out to leave and YUP, CEL back on, got the code again. Gonna try and change the t-state if its as easy as you made it seem, and probably the lower temp sensor in front...see if that solves the problem.Car heats up fine, runs fine, there are no temp maintaining isses, stays just below the mid way on the guage....but the CEL is on

Cool. Same for 2002 A4 3.0. ? Mine blows cold air (heater set at 80 degrees) when car is not moving, then lukewarm air when moving. Don't really know why. Most articles suggest it's stuck thermostat.

Alex, are you having cold air blow out of the heater? And what does your temp gauge do while driving?

Where the hell is the bolt holding the hose in place

The bolt is underneath the hose. Huge pain to get at but it is doable without taking the whole front end apart. Mine wasn’t a hex bolt it was a 5 mm Allan head. This job is definitely doable but it’s not a 15-20 min job. Took me 3hrs the first time but now that I know how to do it and where the hose bolt is, this job could be done in a hour ,2hrs max. Hope this helps guys.
