Funny how at the start of the exam arc Villain was like "I dont give a fuck about any of these side characters, what is this yuribait, get them out of there, let's get on with it"
To be COMPLETELY fair. I STILL don't like Lawine and home girls lil comedy bit. 🤣🤣. but them as characters otherwise are dope. they def had to prove themselves. good on the mangaka to know how to characterize these people in a compelling way. -TEV
@@TheHideoutReacts I agree, I also found it a bit cringe and tonally out of place at the start, makes it all the more impressive that author managed to make everyone likeable
I agree that this show has some of the best female leads of any show (live action or animated, West or East) that I have ever seen. And, it does that without diminishing the male characters! Himmel, Sein, Heiter, Stark, Eisen… the men are all goats as well! Proof positive they you can have strong female representation without ignoring or humiliating the men. This show is just top tier, hands down, fantastic.
I wouldnt say Frieren and Fern are up there as best female leads of all time. Maybe if their characters get more explored and are put to situations that put them to the test , but so far they are average. Maybe you havent seen many anime, tv shows or cinema, but there are far more thriling depicitons of female lead characters in fiction that dont need to be OP or have any special skills in order to stand out. if anything i would say Frieren doesnt do justice to femlae leads since she is an immortal Elf which clearly gives her and "unfair" advantage over others.
@@SimonLab I mean, you are entitled to your own opinion but your statement is hollow. If you think that Frieren stands out coz she's OP then you are clearly not absorbing the real intent of the author.

What a dope episode. Everyone hyped about Ubel but I gave a huge credit to Methode as the best supporter role. She heal, she can sense Frieren' resistance to certain magic, she detected the exact location of clones, she withstand Fern' zoltrak 47, etc. I love momy Methode❤🤣

The Scary Thing is that the Clone basically knew it "Lost" bc. it wouldnt have a Chance in that State against her Original anymore. So it basically tried to kill Off Fern as fast as possible out of Pure killing Instinct. The Datail of her Eye Tracing shows us that it knew what was coming.

Preconceptions played a part for lots of people including me. not that I was hating on these characters from the start but I didn’t think I would like the characters as much as I do now. Mainly because so many anime try and then fail when trying to add so many characters at once in such little episodes.

@@TheHideoutReactsI agree 100%. One of the reasons I like this show so much is because of how often it subverts your expectations of what's happenning or what the characters are like or will do based on what you tend to see in pretty much other anime or similar story. Here most characters tend to be more than their stereotype, talks during fights and fights themselves don't last a long time much less several episodes (except this one Frieren vs Frieren battle because the context justified it) and the story beats you expect don't tend to happen, at least in the way you usually see them.

The good thing is most of the beloved side characters will come back with more actions in coming new story arcs too. But that probably need to wait to next season :)
I feel you, and I respect it. Personally I felt episode 1-5 were pretty okay. nothing too special. but I was hooked at episode 7-10. That's when my eyes opened to the greatness. - TEV
I think what makes the side characters so likeable in Frieren is that the writer wasn't trying hard to make them cool. Even though they are all unique as hinted by their names all having meanings tied to their personality, they feel like people that act according to the world around them and they all push the story forward in some way and bring something to the table.
Frieren said that she last used the spell that Clone Frieren used 80 years ago, meaning there's only been two people who've managed to force her to use it: Fern and the Demon King.
At least we now realized that Frieren is actually EXTREMELY powerful. Totally OP. I'm now excited how will they animate Frieren vs. Solitar together with Denken vs. Macht fights in the future, if they make S2 of this anime.
@@TheHideoutReacts i don´t know the specifics yet, but i heard they are working on season four. So at the least you guys have some time to check it out before it becomes hot again.
Late to your review, but it's a really fun detail that Frieren says her bird-catching spell can bind a monster because we look at the monster and go "eh, it's bird enough" even if it's some kind of predatorial monstrosity that preys on people. Even at that level you're kinda bending the so-called "common sense" of the world to fit your understanding of something. I also like how close that all skirts the idea of madness and genius being two sides of the same coin.
MHA?? I think this is the anime that poorly handles its side characters.. theyve introduce a 30+ plus characters but you dont give a fck to them and its already s5?
TEV really nailed why 19, 20 and 21 are so frustrating. In many ways, so much of those episodes are critical to establishing characters we can be totally into now. But when watching them for the first time, unless you are extremely forgiving, they are a chore because there is so much repeated dialog and piled on exposition that feels unnatural. It is so hard to say this author did a bad job because obviously they are magnificent at crafting character and story. It is just those three episodes (and corresponding manga chapters) that feel clunky.
