@17:06 I was always horrified by the poor Cyberman and it shows how despicable humans can be…to leave a creature so d managed and suffering and just letting it suffer is horrifying to me. Utterly no compassion whatsoever and in many ways even more horrifying than Age of Steel. i completely disagree about this story being too long, it doesn’t waste a second and it flies by. i really don’t see your point about part 4 being padded out. they rescued zoe and isobel and needed to make an escape in a helicopter. there’s no time to see the cyberman. the reveal wouldn’t have made an impact if it were a quick introduction and then getting the fuck out of there 8 parts is perfect for this story. parts 1-4 really create a mysterious atmosphere and makes international electromatics and vaughn an equal threat to the cybermen, any less episodes then vaughn would seem like just some random guy. the obvious reason for the lack of the unit rescue of watkins is budget but it works for me. he said that they were in and out and having him just recount the events, sweating and puffing shows the power of unit, it is their first appearance, we need to see how cool they are

Out of all the Cybermen costumes in the classic series 'Yes I said the classic series' The ones from The Invasion are my second favourite ones, In trems of the Patrick Throughton era these are my all time favourite ones in general, In edition to that, This is the first time that the Cybermen helmets are a little bigger than usual, And of course will stay that way throughout the rest of the classic series.
The invasion is one my favourite cybermen doctor who story from classic Dr who I love it so much that I have it on dvd and it sets the template for the third doctors era
I have chills rewatching all the scenes with Tobias Vaughn. He has such a fantastic presence as a villain. It almost doesn't matter that this is weak story for the Cybermen as Tobias and the general tone of the story make up for it completely. And yes the direction in the first animated episode is so good. It just makes such a good use of its black and white nature to really set the dark tone. I remember first watching the animated episodes on DVD in the mid 2000s and being taken aback by how good they were. Watching this in sequence with the rest of Troughton's third series it really is striking how different it is and how much of it is setting up the style for the Third Doctor series.
Another of the three or four best classic Cybermen stories, while I love the Daleks & Doctor Who wouldn't exactly be Doctor Who without them but the classic Cybermen have always been my favourite, I guess that's why I like the Star Trek's Borg so much because they remind me of the Cybermen, same with the Cylons from classic Battlestar Galactica, which reminds me, I once contacted Universal Pictures and asked if it was possible the BBC could use the Cylons as a guest villain in a story where the Doctor thinks they're dealing with the Cybermen only for the enemy to turn out to actually be the Cylons, what a plot twist that would be... To my surprise, Universal Pictures replied that it was possible for Doctor Who to use them. :)

Interesting fact: Zoe was supposed to fall in love with Jimmy the anti-feminist soldier, while Isobel was supposed to travel with the Doctor. However, Sally Faulkner turned down the Companion role, reversing the scripts having Isobel falling in love with Jimmy.
I should mention that this is the first time that late famous story editor/writer Terrance Dicks was involved in anything Dr Who related, I've heard that Dicks didn't like the Cybermen 'at least that's what someone said to me when William discuss the Daleks's cameo last year on Dalekcember' which probably explains why they weren't included in the Pertwee era, Which is a bit of a shame really, I would of love to see the 3rd Doctor go up against the Cybermen, But of course that's history.
Terrance dicks did like the Cybermen cause he is the one who asked Gerry Davis to write return of the Cybermen for season 12 before Robert Holmes took over, in fact it was actully Jon pertwee who did not like the Cybermen
Tobias Vaughan may have been an influence on the representation of Deveraux in the Timeslip story 'Time of the Ice box'. Both also had secret back office's with hidden , controlling computers!
The only issue I have with this story is the Cybermen don’t do much. They don’t appear until part 4, and even then, all they do is mooch about for a bit then they get destroyed. However, the Cyber-Planner and Tobias Vaughn are very strong villains so the lack of Cybermen doesn’t derail the story too much. Honestly, this story is eight parts and I find it easier to breeze through than a lot of six parters.
The obvious next step for the Cybermen and very well executed. The last story in the Cybermen's best years. Not that there aren't good stories after this but the Cybermen's scare factor has been difficult to capture after this point
The invasion is my favourite 2nd Doctor story with Tomb of the Cybermen being a close second, when the invasion begins and the cybermen come out of the sewers and start walking the streets it's really cool👍
For me, The Invasion is one of the best stories of all time in Dr Who up to this very day!! Maybe this could have been a 6 part story?? I cannot add anything else to your great review. I met Wendy Padbury and Frazer Hines 6 weeks ago and we talked about The Invasion being my all time fav 'Who' story. They agreed about the brilliance of 'Vaughan and Packer' was a stroke of genius pairing. It's a shame Vaughan was killed off as he could have retuned and would still have been a convincing villain imo.
Fantastic animation, I love the animation camera flare through the driver's window - very true to the live action direction. My memory was jogged watching copies of the story but, for better or worse, it's The Wheel Space that really stuck out (in a good way) !
When all you can afford to show of “The Invasion” is a line of Cybermen walking the streets, it’s probably best to milk the anticipation of said invasion rather than the carrying out of it.
Did you use Bowlstrek audio in that clip with them testing the emotion device on that Cybermen? cuz it really does feel like the type of dumb bullshit that would make an alien freak out at how stupid mankind can be.
I used to bump into a travelling TARDIS tent at Festivals called Taff's TARDIS and he used to play non stop Dr.Who all through the weekend, which was great if you had nothing else to do in the night but were still buzzing your tits off. That was the first place I saw Invasion as I hadn't yet got on video( yeah mid 90's) I managed to convert about 30 people into Whovians just with this story. Saw him at Glastonbury, Green Gathering and a couple of other festivals, brilliant Idea, you had to walk through the TARDIS doors to get in the tent and he showed them on a black and white telly as well..Taff if you are out there cheers mate!
I predict the upcoming New Year’s special “Revolution of the Daleks” will basically be the Invasion serial but with the Daleks instead of the Cybermen.
God, it's all the same now these days. I personally find the classic eras to be far more interesting than the supposedly engaging series we have today.
Do like in the BBC ad for the dvd set with Revenge of the Cybermen in it just jokes about a “cyber massage” after its all the twitch chat would go on about during the marathon of who during that episode
I adore the Invasion. It’s one of the first classic stories I ever watched and the first Troughton one and he instantly became my favourite Doctor. It is definitely an episode or two too long though.
It’s a little touch, but I love how we see that the Cybermen despite having been made far less human, there are still little bits that remind us their people, like the big Slapshoe lace up boots, and the ability to made out a human figure in the tight costume, like thighs and biceps Edit:also, completely unrelated, does anyone think Tobias Vaughn would be a great James Bond villain

Ah, the first classic Cyberman serial I ever watched. 🙂
Holy shit that bowlestrek great replacement edit was fucking gold. Bravo!
Interesting fact: Zoe was supposed to fall in love with Jimmy the anti-feminist soldier, while Isobel was supposed to travel with the Doctor. However, Sally Faulkner turned down the Companion role, reversing the scripts having Isobel falling in love with Jimmy.
I love this one. Tobias Vaughn is top-tier Doctor Who villain.
The invasion (besides the lost in time and space) was my first Patrick troughtan story and what a heck of a story to watch first
I should mention that this is the first time that late famous story editor/writer Terrance Dicks was involved in anything Dr Who related, I've heard that Dicks didn't like the Cybermen 'at least that's what someone said to me when William discuss the Daleks's cameo last year on Dalekcember' which probably explains why they weren't included in the Pertwee era, Which is a bit of a shame really, I would of love to see the 3rd Doctor go up against the Cybermen, But of course that's history.
Terrance dicks did like the Cybermen cause he is the one who asked Gerry Davis to write return of the Cybermen for season 12 before Robert Holmes took over, in fact it was actully Jon pertwee who did not like the Cybermen
Hold up, in the classic series there's a character called Kettlewell? I'll deck ya!
HOLY SHIT THAT BOWLESTREK JOKE WAS FUCKING AMAZING
Vaughn is the best one off villain ever
Salamander
Tobias Vaughan may have been an influence on the representation of Deveraux in the Timeslip story 'Time of the Ice box'. Both also had secret back office's with hidden , controlling computers!
This story has everything for me. Can't wait to rewatch it sometime in the future.
An Invasion Cyberman from walking by ST Paul's Cathedral was my old profile pic showing the impact on me
The only issue I have with this story is the Cybermen don’t do much.
22:57 Had me glad I'm watching this on the floor so I don't have a chair to fall out of.
cybermen did appear in the 3rd doctors time in the Carnival of Monsters on the miniscope
The obvious next step for the Cybermen and very well executed. The last story in the Cybermen's best years. Not that there aren't good stories after this but the Cybermen's scare factor has been difficult to capture after this point
Wait, Bret Vyon and the Brigadier were played by the same actor? Now that was surprising.
I loved it when it was first shown and still really like it today. A highlight from a patchy season and full of classic moments.
This is the highlight of 2020 for me! Keep up the good work!
The invasion is my favourite 2nd Doctor story with Tomb of the Cybermen being a close second, when the invasion begins and the cybermen come out of the sewers and start walking the streets it's really cool👍
It always sucked there was never a Pertwee Cyberman story.
@@christopherchurch2750 Definitely. I'd love to see some Big Finish Cybermen stories get covered, hopefully we'll see some this month
22:06 I love the reaction of the man on the right. Looks like a mix between "personal space?" and "are those sparkles?"
Another day, Another cuppa Bowlestrek tears... yummy.
Fantastic animation, I love the animation camera flare through the driver's window - very true to the live action direction. My memory was jogged watching copies of the story but, for better or worse, it's The Wheel Space that really stuck out (in a good way) !
One of my favourite episodes from troughton era
Jesus, I had no idea that Bowlestrek was spreading the great replacement conspiracy theory now
Prepare yourselves Fans of Revenge of the Cybermen, For Will's unfinished business will finally pay off.
It takes until the end of Episode Six for The Invasion to begin… In an Eight Episode narrative, entitled ‘The Invasion’.
Maybe but with a bigger budget lol
More like Dalek invasion of earth or rememberance of the Daleks
The trailer reminds me of Victory Of The Daleks and Blood Of The Daleks, strange enough
God, it's all the same now these days. I personally find the classic eras to be far more interesting than the supposedly engaging series we have today.
Why?
Do like in the BBC ad for the dvd set with Revenge of the Cybermen in it just jokes about a “cyber massage” after its all the twitch chat would go on about during the marathon of who during that episode
My all time favourite Doctor Who story. :)
Doing one favourite quote of the day this time...
"Is this what you wanted? To be the ruler of a dead world?!"
love this video, and this series as a whole. but is abzorbalof-cember confirmed for next year?
29:23 I had a feeling this would be personal
Next year "Base Seige-cember"
23:10 By god no creature containing any amount of intelligence should be subjected to that audio
I adore the Invasion. It’s one of the first classic stories I ever watched and the first Troughton one and he instantly became my favourite Doctor. It is definitely an episode or two too long though.
I'd be insane if I had to listen Bowlsrek as well
I love the music in This story
22:06 Her eyes are up there, mate.
(This comment is in support of the algorithimn, to help MrT out.)
It’s a little touch, but I love how we see that the Cybermen despite having been made far less human, there are still little bits that remind us their people, like the big Slapshoe lace up boots, and the ability to made out a human figure in the tight costume, like thighs and biceps
Edit:also, completely unrelated, does anyone think Tobias Vaughn would be a great James Bond villain
21:17
Now that's more like it. Giving Scott Cawthon and FNAF a run for their money
