My partner’s child has a similar problem, but with him he is more afraid of the “pushing” feeling when he needs to go. Claiming it hurts and it makes him refuse to go. But then of corse holding it in only hurts him more, and no matter what we say, he is still afraid of it hurting when “pushing”.
So this poor boy is in a negative circle and when me and his mum try to help and comfort him, he just gets angry and stressed.

Absolutely the same thing we are going through. My guy is 7 and he just ends up screaming angrily at us whenever he has pain. He holds it. Oof.

@@sarahdaydreams little update; we found some prescribed medication that he can have in powdered form to add to his drink which is meant to “soften” his toilets for him. In the end he felt much more comfortable with it, saying it doesn’t hurt, and now he just goes whenever he feels he needs to. If anything the only challenge was getting him to recognise when he has to go as it is technically a minor form of laxative. And obviously if he holds it in he can’t control it. But that’s a rare accident these days, usually a fart that follows on.
But so far he has been doing so much better than he had 6 months ago.

@@amomlifeofthree I can’t remember the official name. It does have its uses and he has it mixed with his vimto. If anything his only issue now is know WHEN to go and to not ignore when it’s time. Like he doesn’t want to stop what he is doing just to go to the loo.

This video is so good. I will definitely be trying these ideas. Nothing that the many many doctors and psychologists I have seen have explained it this way.

Thank you for sharing. I’m going to try this strategy with my 7yr old son who’s struggling to perform in the toilet. He has no problem going in ins undies, just not in the toilet.
