Typical British weather, motor racing Mecca of UK, an English man with huge passion for cars and racing, driving a car like Lotus in the middle of modern sports cars, talking about his glorious days of racing, bloody hell nothing gets better than this ! I became a big fan of you Ivan, keep mackling in Shed and driving cars ! Best regards
This brought back the memories, I to briefly held a record at Brands in my mini back in 1961. I hadn't realised how much they'd straightend out paddock, in my day it was much sharper with a nasty adverse camber. We also took a completely different line round pilgrims we came out on the left of the track and crossed over to the right going down pilgrims drop to line up for bottom bend. All those modern cars are so much faster now, things have certainly improved over the last 60 years.
the lovely Ivan found and restored this car. it was my dad's first racing car back in 1957. Same number plate. Number 17 off the Lotus 7 production line!
I never get tired of Ivan's 7. It was a picture of him in that car in Classic And Sportscar magazine a hundred years ago that made me decide to build a homemade 7 as much like that as I could. Just a super Boss little machine
Enjoyed that immensely Ivan.. warms my heart to see you out there hammering away and I do hope all those other young ‘pups’, circulating about, realized and appreciated the Quality and History of that ‘old fella’ in the ‘little blue Loti’… Should add.. the video quality was Superb, congrats to all.. no shake, no wind noise etc… many Thanks for Posting and look forward to the next adventures of Ivan & John
Shame about the rain but after all driving fun is about being on the limit, whatever that might be. Thanks for the brief glimpse at last of your excellent photographer.
This is wonderful beyond words. The backstory is everything. Thanks Ivan and it's also nice to see a Dare TZ on track, another great car from the brothers and sons behind the creation of Ginetta.
Very done Ivan even in the wet the lotus seven handles extremely well, great to be along for the ride (Only for a roof). Great content as usual keep up the good work.😉
Ivan never talk’s about his racing career but If you’d like some history watch the Car and Classic channel interview of Ivan. Lyon’s tea sponsored him and he won his first 8 races. British Champion. He knows how to engineer a car and he knows how to race ‘em too. That’s a very rare combination.
From what I've read he's also quick driver of old racing Bugattis. There's a footage of him in the internet somewhere driving a Type 35 to win against Martin Stretton, who's driving absolutely balls-out in a rare Talbot 700 GP car.
I helped a friend build a 7 replica with a Nissan SR20 turbo .. you might think the contrary looking at one, but a 7 pretty much has the aerodynamics of an outhouse - they hit a brick wall at about 150 kp/h , more power just gets you there quicker. I tell you what though, we always had big fat 8" rims and 245 section tyres, I don't fancy going at it with those cookie cutter wire rims he's got there
I really enjoyed watching your video Ivan! Brings back memories when I had a Lancia, full throttle all of the time. Reved it up until it would almost blow up and then change gear and it would almost be at its max rev again. Unlike modern cars that of wich the engine cuts out if the reves are to high. We old blokes can hear when it is time to change gear, don't need a computer to let us know.
Thank you for the ride along young man. Nice save on the first run. I really expected the car to be a bigger handful in the wet but watching your hands on the wheel you seemed quite relaxed and there was little twitching about. Glad to know I’m not the only one that misses fourth on the upshifts. I do that on occasions as well but I don’t have a good excuse as all my transmissions have a standard shift pattern. I’m envious that you have the opportunity to run on some really great tracks. I’d love to experience them with my Mg TD/c in dads car. He was a weekend club racer in California in the early 1950’s on road courses and in timed rally’s and hill climbs. Dad traded the car for a new AH 100M and cursed that car to no end. I found his TD/c quite by accident in Southern CA shortly after his passing. A six year ground up restoration took place and it has won awards at every car show it’s has attended. I’d like to get it on track just as a test and tune so I could relive some of his experiences. I also have a purpose built TD for fast road. Highly modified XPAG putting out close to 100hp. It’s a hoot to drive as it was meant to be. The sweet sound that emanates from her exhaust between 4500-6500rpm when she comes alive puts smiles on my face as I run down rural canyon roads. I have a friend that recently bought a very early baby blue Lotus Seven that would be a sister to yours don’t know the chassis number but will ask him when I see him at the next cars and coffee event. It was a barn find that had sat for many many years. Still, it is an untouched time capsule. He has own several Lotus’s and Caterham’s over the years and this has been his favorite.
Your good self and that old Lotus 7, Ivan, what a great combo, pity about the rain but you were going great. Sure the new stuff is fast but they're not half as classy as you mate.
Superb driving Ivan, that is one special lotus seven and in your hands it's pure grace under pressure from modern cars, I had an avo mk1 Mexico by the way.
Ivan will we see you in any competitions this season (2023)? It appears you have quite a few cars running tip top and am wondering if you enter anything in their respective classes? That lotus ever sound incredible when you get it wound up! I could feel it pulling from over here in Canada. Cheers!
Does Ivan have a 1300 Escort these days? I've a soft spot for them as it's the first car I remember my mum and dad having when I was a kid. I found the channel through Dominic Chinea's TH-cam and have watched a lot of your content. Super interesting and inspiring 👍👍
Hi Ivan we love your show nice to see you have taken on a young man in your workshop also the new camera lady from the Ukraine is doing a great job. Your show is popular amongst enthusiast’s here in Australia Cheers Jim Mc Donald
Nice job of driving. Do you have problems with the drive shaft flange hitting the tunnel? My Seven S1 does when turning right under high load. When that would happen at the museum turn at Barber Motorsports Park it was time to unload the steering.
Ivan if you are going to take the Lotus 7 out again, splash out for a decent set of road tyres and take the car out on the road and get used to the gearbox again. Then take us back to Brands and show us what the little Lotus can do, no t you cox we know you can do it all day long Ivan!
IVAN DRIVEING ON SKINNY TYRES IS AN ART . YOU DID BRILLIANT FOR THEM CONDITION. YOU DRIVE THAT TYP OF CAR . THATS WHY YOU INJOY IT SO MUCH . ITS MORE ABOUT YOUR SKILL THEN THE CAR . I LIKE . NOW GET LOST 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😊😊😊😊😊
Well done Ivan, showing those young upstarters a few tricks! What’s the story about the perfect paint work on this lotus? I thought you would have kept the original paint? Is it the oldest lotus? Which other older ones do you know exist?
I’d love have seen you stick the little Coventry Climax engine in a Ford Pop or Morris Minor, just to say I saw you build the earliest British hot rod.
Have you seen the Triumph-approved Coventry Climax Herald conversions (from the original 1200 coupe models), done by Jack Brabham? Doubled the power and performance while reducing the weight. Always seemed like the perfect match. Coupes because of the better axle ratio among other things. Rare find today, or consider converting!
A really good video sir, an interesting moment but you held it on the black stuff. I would like to see you on a dry day, should give those youngsters a run for their money.

At around 7.30 into it there's an Awsome save, great driving young man !
Excellent video. 110% respect for Ivan's driving skills.

THE SOUND OF SLACK IN THE DIF . WHAT A LOVEY SOUND .
Really enjoyed that ride along . Hope we see many more. Ivan fantastic history you have . God bless you sir 🇬🇧🇬🇧
I never get tired of Ivan's 7. It was a picture of him in that car in Classic And Sportscar magazine a hundred years ago that made me decide to build a homemade 7 as much like that as I could. Just a super Boss little machine
Excellent. a genuine "Droop Snoot" driven by an expert driver, engineer and mechanic. Best wishes from an Australian Lotus 7/Cat7 fan.
Now THAT'S a sports car!
And of course it rained, but what a trip. Thanks for taking us along!
Absolute legend - my vote is for Sir Ivan
Love the rising howl as you exit Clarke onto the Brabham straight. Nice to see Brands Hatch too, my local circuit growing up. Thanks for uploading.

I love it
Pace car has to show me around
I used to hold the lap record here 😂
Oh my that was a lot of fun, great save on that corner!👏 This man can certainly drive. Loving the content on this channel.
That's what a life time spent racing does for you!
Shame about the rain but after all driving fun is about being on the limit, whatever that might be. Thanks for the brief glimpse at last of your excellent photographer.
Well that was a hoot, nice to see your recovery when you lost all grip in the soup what a Treat. Thank you Sir
Ivans "can do" attitude reminds me very much of ex-RAF Wing Commander Ken Wallis who was still flying his autogyros around the skies at 95! 👍
Ivan such a good show and all that side way stuff and your hand did not shake drive on Russell Loudon New Zealand
Great content as usual keep up the good work.😉
Glad to see you're finding it's limits. Hopefully you get a nicer day to enjoy it soon.
Having fun in the wet, thanks for the video Ivan.

That’s a proper race car as well as a historic vehicle - best car by far at the track that day👍
A nice bit of driving there no fuss just some corrections and away again she really is out paced these days love the video thank you.
What can I say...absolutely bloody brilliant!
That was a masterful recovery from the slide at Clearways Ivan, most people would not have been quick enough to have caught the car as it swung back
I helped a friend build a 7 replica with a Nissan SR20 turbo .. you might think the contrary looking at one, but a 7 pretty much has the aerodynamics of an outhouse - they hit a brick wall at about 150 kp/h , more power just gets you there quicker. I loved that. All the way through I was thinking that you are on skinny tyres and the others on modern stuff. Absolutely brilliant !
I really enjoyed watching your video Ivan! Brings back memories when I had a Lancia, full throttle all of the time. Nice video matey, proper driving, nothing like the AWD safe modern hatches.
Thanks Ivan nice to see you’re giving the old girl some beans and enjoying it 👍👨🏻🏭
Really enjoying watching your videos and going along for the ride both in the cars and the history of your amazing career
Cheers
Great to see you having a ball , "lang my yer lumb reek" 👍😘🏴

I see your ‘missed fourth’ and raise you ‘slam it into fifth oh wait this TR6 only has four gears that was REVERSE’. Ha! Top that!
At this point, I'm forced to wonder, do you ever drive a car with a top and side screens? They are marvelous!
Absolutely loved the intro, well done Shedsters
For those that are interested the ‘Car and Classic’ YT channel has done a 2 part interview with Ivan in his Shed covering his background.
Lovely little car Ivan. Couldn’t you graft a less ponderous gear change on it. Selecting 2nd could have been drastic.😱😊
Brilliant. Down to earth bloke from the days when skill was needed to win races, not just brakes and horsepower. Love it.
It was good fun watching you. Great to see you go flat out down the straight to,
Wonderful watching you drive Ivan!
what a ace ride along thank you so much for sharing , and the bonus of a interview at the end
I’ve been watching Ivan since the caffeinated squirrel days and have one question? Why has no one gotten this man an OBE?
Well done Ivan,,,,,,,LOVE the Lotus!
Your good self and that old Lotus 7, Ivan, what a great combo, pity about the rain but you were going great. Sure the new stuff is fast but they're not half as classy as you mate.
Wonderful ❤️👍
Interesting little beast at 0:05, a Dare DZ designed and built by the former founders of Ginetta.
Thank You from another old Chap😀😃😄😁!
I like how the gear lever moves around under varying torque loads
Beautiful car, thx for sharing
What a great film. Thank you.
I used to stay at the Thistle Hotel when I went to Brands.
Superb driving Ivan, that is one special lotus seven and in your hands it's pure grace under pressure from modern cars, I had an avo mk1 Mexico by the way.
Truly inspirational !
Great video, keep up the updates on your cars & drives, i really look forward to your videos
Thanks Ivan and team, that was great. May I ask what running gear does that Lotus run? Mart.
Ivan will we see you in any competitions this season (2023)? It appears you have quite a few cars running tip top and am wondering if you enter anything in their respective classes? That lotus ever sound incredible when you get it wound up! I could feel it pulling from over here in Canada. Cheers!

Great save Ivan! Well done!
5:17. My “awww hell yes” moment!
great as always , any film of you racing that escort ?
Really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!
Your _joie de vivre_ is infectious.
Great stuff. Much enjoyed.
Must have buzzed the engine with all those errant 2nd gear changes .
It's a track days in a car without a roof so of course it's raining 🙁
That Lotus made most of the other modern cars look somewhat bland!
Nice to see a BRITISH car amongst all of that German stuff. If it were dry you’d clean house with that Lotus.
Go you good thing. Best channel on TH-cam.
well held Ivan !!
Loving it!😁
Nice job of driving. Do you have problems with the drive shaft flange hitting the tunnel? My Seven S1 does when turning right under high load. When that would happen at the museum turn at Barber Motorsports Park it was time to unload the steering.

Simply.... Brilliant *
Excellent save at the 7:00 mark
You're a force of nature, Ivan!
and the nature of the force too!
it sounds awesome, but please do something about the gearbox! how high does it rev Ivan?
Thanks heaps for another great video.
Great Videos...

@@RobertSmith-jl4yw I’ve heard of them, but never seen one. Haven’t they been eclipsed by the Fiat Twin Cam, Toyota, Ford Zetec and Honda K-Series?
Wat´s up with you wipers Ivan? You should turn the wheelboxes round then you´ll get the full sweep of the windscreen on the right hand side.
A really good video sir, an interesting moment but you held it on the black stuff. I would like to see you on a dry day, should give those youngsters a run for their money.
He might be an old bugger.....😀
Very nice, sooth driving. What were you fiddling with under the dash, Ivan?
Maybe a braske bias adjustment? You want less front bias is low-grip conditions like rain, snow, dirt, etc.
Switching wipers on & off
@@marshalldonnell7472 Ohhh. Whilst he was doing it I wasn't watching the windscreen. Ha, ha. Thank you.
Great stuff.....👍
That oil pressure looks worryingly low…
What is it with the rev counter? It doesn’t move much :-)
Great!👍
Legend good save boy
Is that only a three speed gearbox? seems to run out of revs, lacking another gear.
What a treat ! Ta!🔧🌜🐎🌼💫✨🍏
Brilliant 👏
Charming presenter.
brilliant !!!! 👍👍👍👍
