  • Speaking live with Megyn Kelly via remote, Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre estimates he may have suffered hundreds or even thousands of concussions during his career, and says “head injuries and concussions were never considered a problem long-term until now.” He says that at age 48, his short-term memory and word retrieval skills have deteriorated.

    I am a die hard Packers fan from Wisconsin and I appreciate his service to the team and the game itself. He broke many records which will take MANY years to be broken. But he must ask himself everyday, "Was it all worth it?"

      I have had a TBI myself getting hit head on by another snowmobile and hit in the head. Short term memory loss is a constant in my life now including other disabilities. I have much respect for Brett Favre. He is similar to Vince Lombardi in his DRIVE and EXCELLENCE and DEDICATION to the game. I just hope Brett can come to terms with his life the way it is now.

      @James West no it's not worth it. Nothing is worth loosing your mind. You would think differently if it was you James. Good life gone, can remember, hurting the ones you Love and can't stop nor help it. It's not worth it. Who cares about records when you can't remember them. When your wife and children are afraid of you. What's more important James?

    • @jerrysmith8436
      @jerrysmith8436 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James West you don't get it James, but not a bad comment. The players didn't know that concussions would cause such problems. And I doubt you would prefer money over mind knowing the concussions you received would cause the problems Mike Webster and others received playing football. What would all the fame mean if you loose your mind and family James? Bcool.

I’m sorry but his life and brain are not worth any amount of money, or fame to me if he were ever to even make it to the Nfl, or even the joy of playing! Not worth it at all!

    Ive had two minor concussions in my life. First I was hit on the back of the head with a wooden toy by some other kid and everything went black for a few seconds. Second time i fell off a woodpile and saw stars. Both of these were a pretty serious matter for me. Its kind of shocking to me that there are people that actually think this ISN'T bad for you. It just seems kind of obvious to me that this will eventually damage you.

      Individual smaller hits are nearly as damaging as bigger ones, and they are vastly more numerous. Total concussions is apparently not a very good way to gauge risk. I'm guessing that once you reach a threshold, any head impact can contribute to eventual CTE symptoms.

    Favre is still a young man at 48. He's gray headed but many men that age are "changing over." I personally suffered 3 non-sports concussions that I was hospitalized for so doctors could observe me overnight. I'm 68 now and I'm having short term memory struggles. I don't know if its from my head injuries or if it is just "information overload" that we receive everyday from advertising and messages via media. I worry about dementia but it seems to be still ahead of me. The best thing to is to monitor yourself and stop to give yourself a periodic assessment. Seek medical help if your gut is telling you to do it.

    If you have concussion symptoms try using ice to lower brain temperature and inflammation

    I played and got my bell rung. I saw a flash of light. I was put on the bench and i guess the team doctor used smelling salts. My friend brad said i fell 3 times before they came out to get me. I rember things as a kid but i can not retain memory now. That sport is dangerous but in the 80s you were a sissy if you did not go back in. I did go back in and did so many, many times. 12 years of that game and i knew not to let my boys play. I am 53 years old now and feel like i am 80. I feel the coaches enjoyed watching us destroy each other.

    Brett had great legs.
    He could get out of tough situations in the pocket.
    I always thought he stayed clear of the sack.
    Try being defense tackle.

    Who would have ever thought that bashing your head up against a hard object multiple times over many years would be bad for your brain. This whole time i’ve been hitting myself in the head with a hammer thinking it was ok. Now I suppose i’ll have to switch hobbies. Maybe I should have gone to medical school cuz apparently i’m a genius.

    I stopped watching football seeing them guys continually attack and try to hurt Favre just to do this secretive longterm damage. Then I got my head bashed in myself by someone skilled as them footballers who did Favre like that. I think he got the idea watching football. It should be banned and touch football only.

    I still think kids should be allowed to play if they want. I played for years and it wasn't till highschool and above was when I personally started hitting players that had power and speed to really cause any issues. I had 3 which only 1 from football 1 from baseball taking line drive at 3rd base to side head my lastr and by far worse was from car wreck if coaches are trained and there are trainers with medical experience there who know what to look for it's not like when I played and coaches told us to quit crying and get out and play

    I love how retired athletes come out on concussions after they have made their Millions from playing the game!! They knew the risks in playing the game, looks at players from the 50's and 60's that are crippled from playing the game and they didnt make the money that these players did. I love Brett Farve as a player but telling kids don't play, I don't agree with I wonder what Farve would have advised kids at the age of 48 had he was still working at a regular job earning pennies compared to what he earned.

      Step off??? Do you think for one second that Megan Kelly actually cares about Football registrations in Minor Football??? She cares about Ratings you Meathead!!! With the NFL Draft right around the corner with the prospect of 5 big time QB's coming into the league this was perfect timing for this episode!! Give your head a shake!!

    • @wdunn36
      @wdunn36 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is also a lot of other truths that are coming out..... Football, Hockey, Soccer, and a number of other sports are all working hard at the minor, HS, college, and pro levels to have the head removed from the game. Will there still be concussions in sports..... YES...BUT will there be concussion on the school grounds, the play parks, and the water parks,... Should all these be shut down as well???? Its uneducated opinions like yours that move us backwards not forward, there have been way to many success stories of Kids that have turned into excellent adults with good careers and learning how to play on a team has helped them achieve success. Yes the game needs to change.... I am a football official at the University level and head shots or head collisions are studied deeply.... will it still happen time to time..... YES....... But will a kid fall off a slide or swing this summer ....... YES.....Should we tear down all the play grounds???

    • @wdunn36
      @wdunn36 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joey Hunjas He specifically states he would not want his kids to play the game. How do you think that impacts minor football registrations?? Dont forget the NFL machine needs youth playing the sport for their future recruits. When Farve says what he says to a crowd full of Moms. He is hurting the game that provided him the platform to make millions. Take you for example when you retire from McDonalds are you then going to come out and say we shouldnt be eating their meat!!!

    • @wdunn36
      @wdunn36 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are missing my point all together... I am not attacking Brett Farve the person!! Although I disagree with how he is handling things now in retirement. I am 100% focusing on the sport of football and the attack that the sport is under. The game is changing and its due to all these concussions over the past years and it needed to change but to simply say I would not let my kids play is where my problem starts. I have seen numerous kids over the years that have turned into great women and men from playing the sport and there are certain things that every community must have to be productive and Sports is one of those foundations.
