    This tube fly is a beauty. It should do very well in the water. I tie more tube flies than hook flies. I find the tube flies to last about 30 times longer than hook flies do. There aren't many tube fly tiers in the US. I'm the only one that ties tube flies and fish them on a regular bases here in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. I still get strange looks from other anglers that see me fishing with them. Best regards.

    Hi Davy, Fantastic fly, as always you make it look so easy. Wonder how this type of fly would work here in Scotland?
    Will try tying some up for next spring on the Tay. Must have great movement in the water. Thanks for another great video.
    Best regards. Alan.

    Hi Davy,
    Again another innovative tying, Why the unusual J,C feather position. To me it looks odd.
    Thanks again

      Hi Stuart,
      I've tied these flies with long, medium and small jungle cock eyes and to be honest it's more to suit the person that wants them, these are for Norway which seems to be the favourite style as I have tied them for more years than I can remember...Some of the most popular flies though don't have jungle cock like the Sunray Shadow, Willie Gunn, Cascade and Ally's Shrimp...

    Is there a real benefit to using the black varnish? I have vineyards clear and thought that would be okay. Then I see you using black. I do have some black nail polish. I usually use a clear varnish from Veniards. All the best to you and yours. God bless, Sean

      Hi Sean,
      I used to use black and red varnish a lot on my flies which came from veniards but I rarely do this now as I can get a nice colour from the threads we use now..Thank you for the kind wishes and I hope all is well over your way...

    Davie, I scoured the BFFI yesterday looking for the clear silicone tubing you use at the back of the tube to support the hook, without success. Can you point me at where you get yours from please?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim,
      I got the tubing when I worked for a fly tying company in Thailand, it was made by a company in the UK but unfortunately they only supply it in large quantities..If you you do a search for PVC aquarium tubing as this is very close to the tubing I have...I hope this is of some help to you..

    Great fly. I have switched to larger profile flies (and steelhead style) for early season high water salmon. Could you post the material list. I got the goat but maybe its my New England ear...I couldn't tell what you called the first winging material

      Hi fishpimp1962,
      I'm glad you liked the Olive Phantom, this style of fly does surprise many that give them a go as fish do like to have a go at them....I have attached a list of the materials I used also other materials that can be used if you can't get a hold of Tanuki/FinnRaccoon which is slightly softer than Arctic or Silver Fox though I would be happy with any of these furs...
