I always have to rewind the video at the intro because I have to catch Joseph’s expression when Nick introduces him, and then rewind to see what the hell Nick is doing when he says “and that’s Joseph!!”… 😂
As a CS prof at the time, (1) Y2K was overblown by the media (surprise, surprise) and work on solutions started in 1995, (2) AI at this time was so limited it was less "intelligent" than an amoeba, and (3) if the experts couldn't "solve the problem", no high school "whiz kid" was going to. Sheesh.
I remember that night at ten years old. My mom went to the ATM and then we went to church to be with the Lordt. 😂😂😂 Nope, 24 years later, I'm still mad 😒
I got mentally sidetracked after Joan Crawford High School and started thinking about other schools that could be named after 'difficult' actresses and how that affected football games. 🤣
After watching most of the reviews on TH-cam and finally seeing the movie myself I can agree with what everyone is saying in that killing Danny and Farkas so soon in the movie was just downright dumb and a crucial mistake from a writing standpoint, the movie took a serious quality dip after those two were gone.
This is the second time I know of Alicia Silverstone playing Jaeden Martell’s mom (the first time I saw it was a horror movie called The Lodge). Haven’t no even seen this and I’m pretty sure that I like The Lodge better 🤣🤣🤣 thank you both for the review!!
When the trailer dropped for Y2K, I was hyped. Some background info. I am a child of the 90's, born in 1990, grew up in the decade, it is super nostalgic to me. I also love movies like Maximum Overdrive and Virus, Superbad and This is the End, and of course the Treehouse of Horror segment that the movie just straight up lifted the idea from. So I had reasons to be super excited for this. Just got back from the theater and was just disappointed. The movie basically blows its load at the party scene. Probably 90%+ of the violence and kills as well as the movie's best joke all happen at or around this point. What you're left with is a horror comedy that doesn't really deliver on either front for its remaining hour-ish. It starts to drag, it's incredibly dull. It basically lives on its appeal to nostalgia at this point. The practical effects were great, the kills at the party were great, there were a couple genuinely funny moments. But they absolutely fumbled the execution of a great concept. Like, this could have been in my top five for the year if it delivered on what the trailer and poster (seriously, I love that poster with the bloody plug) built my expectations up to be.
So i was like 1 to 2 years old, so i missed a lot of the references outside of anything i learned from my mom and nostalgia youtube videos and shorts. But i feel like the remining 2/3 rds of the movie were flat, i wish the characters were better, like cut out the traveling parts and fill in the characters more. I wish that the enemy made more since, like what were the exact origins. Make a better "hacker" and overall more horror in a comdeic fashion. They killed off the more interesting characters too soon, and i have no idea who Frank Durst is, but felt he was unnecessary to have. So many opportunities with the soundtrack.
I get that the movie was aiming to be quirky and over-the-top, but it went way too far and landed squarely in stupid territory. I couldn’t enjoy it. The first act had some promise, but after that, it completely fell apart. The whole thing with the condom and how it was used in the end? Just embarrassingly lame. Honestly, I’m shocked you guys were so generous in your review. For me, this was easily one of the worst-if not the worst-movies I’ve seen all year.
@@marcusporras9571 I skipped that one-was it really that bad? I’ve seen over sixty movies in theaters this year, and honestly, I’m struggling to think of one worse than Y2K. Maybe Elevation or Joker 2 comes close, but even those had more redeeming qualities. Madam Web? Yeah, I’d rank that above this too. I know opinions will differ, but for me, this movie was a complete mess-nothing about it worked. As a 90s kid, I got all the references, but even the nostalgia couldn’t salvage it. Maybe it’s just me, but this brand of humor-so over-the-top and stupid that it seeps into every aspect of the movie, even the sincere moments-just doesn’t land.
2:11 I mean...to be fair...it kind of was a successful take over... I remember my aunt hoarding jugs of water and other stuff and...yeah... Edit: Would Sisqo's song featured in this film be an anachronism? I like the string quartet version.

I can relate. I worked in a Vegas casino 7 years later in 2006 at the age of 25. Y2K doesn't pique my interest enough to see it at the movies. I'll probably stream it for the sake of Alicia Silverstone's comeback. 🤷🏾♀️ Maybe because that era holds a special place in my heart. @Jaa21398 but they do like everything that comes out im surprised they haven't done it yet oh well I can only hope they still will because it's a great film deserves alot more buzz
this sounds nothing like the Y2K I experienced (An event which, when I was a young human didn't at all think was going to crash anything, let alone bring horror)
Nick saying “Joan Crawford High School” made me laugh harder than anything in this movie sadly. Kyle Mooney’s short videos from SNL were all funnier than this. I think he’s getting his sea legs and will be back with something better soon!
The Jellyfish has stung, I saw how cringe it look. But I’m starting to think that’s what movies are become roast porn for reviewers. It’s the 90s turn to become to joke generation, like that Taco Bell ad that early 90s fashion with mid 90s music.

What is the name of the music that plays as the clock counts down?

It's supposed to be a horror comedy.
It fails at both.
Think Shaun of Dead except not nearly as funny and with an even more stupid plot.
