The bearings on the inner tube are there to prevent core loss and stuck core tubes when the core tube blocks off by allowing the core tube to spin. The core tube adjustment has nothing do do with fluid flow to the bit. The core tubes should all be adjusted to the same distance from the Bit whether you are Drilling AQ to HQ,HQ3 or HQTT. Fluid Flow is controlled at your Pump and Hydraulic Settings. The Wireline Core Barrel System was designed and built by Boart Longyear they are still making improvements on it.
