Great movie and what an interesting life. As a former Port boy I can testify that the place is always in your blood. Just need to win Tatts so I can move back.

It's funny isn't it, 30 years ago no one wanted to live there it was cheap as chips and look at it now as you said you gotta win TattsLotto to move there

Wonderful story. Tom Buckingham had a shop in Bay Street just up from my grandmother's shop at number 67. Thank you.

It was so moving to watch this film made by Edwin Whiting, your dad. I knew him from the Port Melbourne Historical Society and know that he did not find making the film easy. I live just round the corner so the places he describes are very familiar to me, even though of course Port is much altered since he grew up here.

Hi Janet, you may be able to help me, do you know anything about the Balmoral ladies College, North Sandridge, it was in use in the later half of the 1800s, you maybe able to direct me toward sources of information relating to building in this area from that era, any info would be appreciated

Lived there most of my young life, late 1960's to 1982 in Evens st and stokes st as well, went to Nott st and then to albert Park high school. :) Parent owned the first maritime union house or Pub which was built in 1870 ( in the world in fact) and the owner was the first mayor of port melbourne and also the first elected labor representative and when he died all flags were pulled down to half mast. :)

i also went to both those schools you mentioned. i was the second draft into the new school and that was even before the new school was built.

i'm still a port boy, but of a later era, who found the weather far more pleasant in perth. so that's where i live. i wouldn't belong in port anymore. it wouldn't matter how wealthy i was. i heard the name troedel and cooper. my uncle, don wharrie did his printer apprenticeship there at about the same time.
