    @Gjeebs the $1m dollar question: How do these TEIN compare in ride comfort to your Unplugged Performance Luxury Comfort Coilovers you installed on yours? Also who has the overall best comfort ride quality for the Y.....Redwood Ohlins Coilovers, Mountain Pass Performance Comfort Coilovers, Tein, or Unplugged Performance? That would also make an AWESOME clickworthy video " Battle of the Comfort Suspensions to find the KING of Comfort"

    I just installed these shocks on all 4 corners of my 22 LR. No joke, it makes the Y feel like a completely different car. 10 clicks in the front and 12 clicks in the rear. Great upgrade!

    • @howifixedit.9076
      @howifixedit.9076 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Have you compared it to the new comfort suspension on the newer Y’s? I rode in one and it was much more forgiving than my MYP.

    • @LimpHz
      @LimpHz ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@howifixedit.9076 I’ve ridden in a Y with the comfort suspension and I’d say while it’s still much more forgiving and plush than the stock suspension from my 22 MY, it doesn’t ride as good as these Tein dampers. That said, I’d personally be more inclined to keep using the comfort suspension if mine already had it just to save the extra cost and install time, but if neither of those are a concern then I’d still do the upgrade.

      @@curtplum9 It’s $660 for all 4 plus a small shipping cost. One of the major advantages of ZEVcentric is their customer service is incredible. I had some issues with my kit originally and their owner, Rishie, personally got in contact with me over the course of a couple weeks to get everything resolved. It’s really a business segment of AutoRnD whose been around since the 90’s, so they’re a reputable company that stands behind the products they sell. RzEV might be a good company too - only thing is they reel you in with the “discounts” and completely rip you with shipping.

  • @zevcentric

    Only doing the rears is not a "Smart Fix" due to instability in a turn. By only softening the rear it works in a straight line but you're truly limited by the valving of the oem front dampers so be careful when hitting corners or off/on ramps.. We tested this last year when Tein worked with us to sample the product. We spent 6 months working on this and didn't release this option. It was in fact the first thing we tested because it seemed like it could be a great cheap solution. Please tread lightly. In Japan it is pronounced "TAYNE" for reference as well. You guys have done some things that will void your warranty on these shocks since the Tein dampers are 16 way adjustable. Their instructions indicate not to go past 16 clicks. With that said you guys went all the way open on the valve but should stop at 16 clicks. Secondly always close the valve, so stiffest setting, and then count backwards 16 clicks. Don't count from the "softest" end because not all shocks will have the same number of clicks. They will call them "dead clicks." Another thing to note is the very light torque spec on that 14mm nut. Hopefully no power tools were used on that top nut. I believe it's 27n-m or 18ft-lbs.

      Truth. I tested these on the rear of my model y performance. Unsettling for sure. Didn't feel safe. Definitely need to do the fronts at the same time. As a package it works great for better ride quality.

    I DIY’d the 2023 LRMY suspension at $900 (shocks/dampeners/springs) on my wife’s 2021 LRMY 19” wheels with 28k miles. A very noticeable reduction in harshness and improvement in handling. Even my wife can feel the difference. Prior my 2021 P3 with aftermarket Titan forged 19” wheels with Michelin PS4S tires rode better than her MY, this is no longer the case after upgrading her suspension. Also gentlemen when you torque the lower bolt for the rear dampener, you should put weight on the rear suspension by either jacking up on the spring “cradle” or lowering the car to the ground with wheel on of course.

    It’s interesting that you guys talked about the tread depth on the low mileage tires. I was just talking to a tire shop about putting 295’s on my Y Performance wheels. He said going wider than stock will cause the tires to prematurely wear in the center, as if they were over inflated. You guys sort of touched on that topic, but did not mention tire size. I was able to screen shot the tire size and saw that he is running mega oversized tires on the rear. 315’s. That probably explains the wear. I also think you should have mentioned the tire size, because his results with those shocks, and those massive tires, may be dramatically different than someone running stock 275 tires. I guess you did mention is was a mega peach. But not the size of that peach, LOL. Sorry if this came across too Karen-ish. I just found the details both interesting and enlightening.

You are definitely better off ditching the stock springs too though as that's where some of the weird side to side bounce comes from

      je me suis aperçu que le réglage avait 32 positions et non 16... contrairement à ce que j'avais compris dans les vidéos TH-cam :-( J'ai donc mis le réglage sur 20 à l avant et 24 à l'arrière. bien en ville. mais, après un tour sur l'Autoroute (en France) à 130 km/h (Highway), la voiture est devenue dangereuse avec ce réglage dans les virages. l'arrière rebondissait. il y a clairement un manque de fermeté flagrant en "détente". En compression, ça va. J'ai mis donc plus ferme, soit 18 et 18. Toujours confortable en ville. C'est devenu correct sur autoroute. c'est , pour moi la limite maximum alliant confort et conduite sur autoroute en sécurité. il serait dangereux de mettre plus souple. je vais donc encore modifier le réglage dans les prochains jours. ça coute à chaque fois 120 euros car seuls les amortisseurs avant sont réglables sans démontage. pour les arrières il faut démonter et je n'ai pas envie de faire ça moi-même. prochain test à 14 /14 dans les prochains jours. par contre j'ai maintenant un petit bruit dérangeant à faible vitesse. comme si un truc claquait. si finalement ça ne va pas , je balance tout et je reviens aux amortisseurs d'origine. ou alors je vais tester les KONI.

    Question: how does a soft rear shock affect handling, specifically on a race track?

    • @gwieser
      @gwieser ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That’s how you usually set up for a race track. A softer rear gives you much more grip through and out of corners, while you try to keep the front as stiff as possible.

I have 19 inch wheels on my Model 3 LR. Whats your wheel configuration ? I wonder why tesla suggests 42 PSI tire pressure levels not sure if its for range or load. Why get a performance vehicle to mess with the shocks to undo the sport suspension? Doesn’t make sense to me. The ride also gets stiffer with 21” rims with worn out tires. If you want a soother ride, just buy the AWD, long range Model Y with 19” wheels. Tires last longer, so no complaints, and a smoother ride. Also, save a few thousand dollars.

    Notice how much autopilot was used, on the ride? A real life depiction of what people would choose, when given the option to either drive or be driven by the car? Doesn't take away your ability to drive, but it sure as hell relives you of driving, when in situations where driving is stressful. And such situations occur very, very, frequently.
