Most of the tents at WM have very questionable waterproofing. Buy 3-4 cans of the silicone spray that is generally near the tents. On the first setup (maybe in your back yard), soak the rainfly and any rain-bearing panels very thoroughly and it will give you a fighting chance. Repeat the treatment after drying if you have enough left. Make sure it dries very well before going inside. I've gone through this issue many times with new boy scouts and mention it because of the problems we have actually had keeping them dry.
Nice good stuff! 👊🏽 We don’t get much rain out west here so that’s never usually a concern 🤦🏻♂️😂 Also though, hanging a tarp does help on that front as well. 🤙🏽
You'd better just assume that any tent under 500$ is in need of treatment. Hell fire, the manufacturers themselves recommend and sell stuff for, waterproofing their own products.

When I was homeless I had a Walmart tent I used it for sleep but that was it. I preferred a tarp or a single shelter. Mainly due to survival shelter. I did want to try the cook out thing but I couldn’t carry it around. Shoes were very expensive important. But the best was an axe and the knife. Along side the fire starter stick. Water filter. That was it. Great video good information.
Hello 👋 my outdoors friends, thank you for sharing this informative video. Walmart does have many cost saving, practical items for camping 🏕. Thank you, stay safe and healthy out there. 🤗 👋
Walmart is one of the absolute last must stops before hitting our site. Theres a reason why we literally drive right by two of them on our direct route to our favorite local camp spot BTW ❤❤❤ yalls channel...so glad i found yall
Great video! Some of the Ozark Trail stuff is a great value. I have a 54 quart roto cooler made in USA that has been awesome for 3 years and 1/3 price if a YETI
Tents from Walmart are 3 season versions at best. Not always the best quality regardless of the name on it. I found a large Coleman tent on clearance and have used twice. So far it's good. Sleeping bags, the ratings on them are ballpark. If your looking for something for 45 or so and above, sure. I prefer my 4 season military sleep system anytime over anything else. Tarps, definitely agree with them. The rest of the stuff, pay attention to what your buying and it's intended uses and for how long. As for the shovel, I highly suggest the true military version. They can be picked up at surplus stores for under 25 and will definitely outlast the cheap Walmart versions. The mountain house meals are very bland. Definitely recommend picking up a small spice, salt, pepper etc for adding flavor to them. Most everything I have bought from Walmart has held up. I always try to buy items that serve multiple purposes there as well. Although it's not possible with some things, plan ahead what will hold up ling term and buy those rather than some cheap good enough for now.
Woooooo! That took a minute to read. 😂🤙🏽 Hey obviously there is way better gear on the market right, but this is some of the best stuff you can buy here at Walmart. And I’ll tell ya, we’ve been pleasantly surprised with everything we have gotten from there. Never had any problems 🤷🏻♂️😊 Hahaha and those mountain house meals are definitely not the best thing in the world to eat for pleasure, haha they are just made to have an extremely long shelf life and get you calories easily in a pinch. I wouldn’t add anymore salt to them though lol cause they are just absolutely loaded with sodium already. 😂😁 Try the Lasagna with Meat Sauce! It’s definitely our favorite one. Thanks for the comment! And thanks for watching! 👊🏽😊
Fyi, if someone is receiving ebt, they can purchase the Mountain House freeze dried food. Found that out a couple years ago. Great to keep in a bug out bag with a few of your favorite spices. 😁
Interesting. Oh yeah they aren’t the best thing we’ve ever tasted lol but with that shelf life they are great to have in your emergency kit for sure! Lasagna with meat sauce has been our favorite so far 😂🤙🏽
I have somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000 worth of camping gear. This includes 5 camping tents of various sizes, 3 personal tents for shower, toilet & changing clothes, a beach tent for storing gear. I have all gear for comfy bedroom, outdoor kitchen and personal bathroom, electronic entertainment, outdoor projector, movie screen, speakers, inflatable pool, hammocks and chairs, outdoor and indoor games. Probably 80 percent is Ozark Trail. I love that brand and have no regrets in that choice. Just came across your channel for the 1st time & love it❤!
The blue closed cell foam pads are the best deal, always have 1 or 2 in my car. They are impervious to the doggie toenails unlike the bare tent floor, plus put one under your inflatable pads to double its warmth and backup if the upper pad springs a leak!
Every time I go camping I add an additional tent peg or two from previous campers leaving it in the ground. I have enough pegs to set up Butning man. 😁
The hickory handled hatchet is also quite good. Pick one that has the grain parallel to the head. Also get a 2-way flat bastard (mower type) file from the hardware section because the hatchet needs the edge profiled and sharpened.
Thos water filter are good but they do not filter out viruses you can still get sick. They ones that do are like 80 to 100 bucks but very worth it imo. I like the greyl geopress you should check it out !
I no longer tent camp after an experience with a unknown animal or something I've tried to camp in my minivan but it's not the same. Thanks for the gear ideas 👍
No problem 😊🤙🏽 And wow really jeez that sounds like an interesting story. Maybe check out our 12 Tips to keep you safe while camping video, it might give you some good defense ideas to feel better about being out there! 😉 Also we just did an Amazon gear video recently you may enjoy if you’re looking for more gear. Hope you enjoy the content! Thanks for watching and hope you will give the tent another shot 🏕️👊🏽😎☺️
I recommend starting cheap. Making your equipment.. Using recycled stuff. Make your padding....make your tarp. Make a wood burning stove...plastic cups and plates....dont take lavish meals. .....then if you like going camping regularly.......start adding stuff.
I have bought several backpacking accessories at Walmart and most are ok. I would be a little wary though of their tents. The prices are good but they sometimes leak!
Nice 😊🤙🏽 Yeah I’d probably pick one of the Coleman tents off the shelf personally if I needed to get one there tomorrow, but we did get an Ozark Trail a few years ago in a pinch and it has been ok. 🤷🏻♂️ Hasn’t really been subjected to heavy heavy rain, haha but it handled light rain pretty well. 😊
Haha nice. 👊🏽😁 Would have been easier for you to just say…. Hey everybody! PLEASE COME TO MY CHANNEL! 😃😂 Hahaha we know the grind man. It’s not easy I know. Best of luck with your channel! 🤙🏽
@@YakAngling Just have to be consistent and not give up, it takes time. We’ve been at it for a little over 3 years now, 150 videos to this point. Gotta think of each video you make as another line in the water. 🎣😎👊🏽😊
Don't know what walmart that was but I believe it's in socal. I'm in norcal in Pittsburg in the sf bay area and your camping section blows any camping section up here away lol. Our section is maybe 2 small aisles and almost all behind glass unfortunately. Seems to be the standard up here also
A lot of people are saying that!!! This one is in Santa Clarita, CA. And ugh yeah I guess when the laws in this state are made to pretty much have no penalty for stealing, the stores have to do what they can to prevent it. 🤦🏻♂️
Just FYI, if you have to really drive tent stakes into hard ground, theyre really difficult to pull back outta the ground. Dollar Tree has small crow bars that work like a charm in getting those stakes back!
Nice! We’ve actually replaced our mallet with this little hammer/multi tool we found on Amazon! Works great for banging them in and getting them out! It’s in our Amazon store if you’re interested, it’s nice to have multiple uses in one tool 😊😊😊🤙🏽
In the party section of wallyworld they sell a variety of glow in the dark jewelry, tape or ziptie a glo necklace to the guylines of your tents/canopies.
@@sethswanson9839 Yeah they do way cheaper in that section too! Haha think we talked about that actually in our other camping gear at Walmart video because it was about all the good stuff you can find that’s NOT in the camping section. 😊🤙🏽
Hahahaha yup, welcome to TH-cam! 🤗 You get used to it. 👊🏽😉😁 Some people are just very unhappy and like to take it out on others to feel a little better about themselves and maybe get a few likes on their comments to feel some acceptance. Others like to think they know more than everyone else, some are just overly sensitive, and some are actually addicted to clicking on content they might not agree with just so they can throw in their two cents which you see a lot of in algorithms across all social media. It’s all programmed to show you more of what you interact most with wether that be good or bad, lol so if you comment on something out of anger it shows you more of that content because it doesn’t realize you got mad at it, it just thinks you enjoyed it because you took the time to interact with it. 😂 Crazy world we live in. 😁
My Walmart has a very small camping section. I would be very lucky to find all of this stuff. I would have to go to several stores to find all this stuff.
Those meals (MRE type) are great but super expensive. Having a couple handy can be good, especially good if going on a long hike. But yeah, too expensive IMO for anything other than that. Seems to be an inordinate amount of trolls here. Don't sweat the knuckleheads. Good video!
Yeah definitely. $10 each, but good option for traveling super light or in a pinch or for emergencies with that super long shelf life. Just good to have a few stored away we think. And hahaha thanks 👊🏽😊 Definitely not one of our best videos, but some people are a little insane for sure lol what can you do that’s TH-cam for ya! 🤷🏻♂️😂🤙🏽 Thanks for the nice comment and thanks for watching we really appreciate it. ☺️
They do carry a couple kinds of chlorine dioxide water treatment (drops and tablets), which are excellent to kill off the critters, even crypto-sporidia.
I might be homeless again..this is a big help I have some gear..this might happen to me in the winter. I've never done anything like that ever. As a woman I'm going to have to stay hidden..camouflage and dark colors..I've been homeless more times than I can count..I'm already 57.ill be 58 in November..unfortunately I can't afford or have all of the stuff they just said..
Very sorry to hear that. Sending you lots of positive vibes and luck! 🍀 Definitely check out our affordable Amazon camping gear video, the stuff is all super super cheap and is great quality. ❤️
This seems more of a WALMART COMMERCIAL. The trick is finding non camp items at Walmart. Ozark trail has some cool items but most is junk. Don't buy thos camp shovels they break. Your better off going to army navy store that sells true military shovel for 30.00
Hahaha yeah that was kind of the point ya know? 😊 You can find way better gear if you want to spend up for it obviously, but this video is about the gear you can find at Walmart. 😊
@@lorenfok1097 Sorry we never tried it, but it seems to have good reviews on the Walmart app! 🤷🏻♂️😊 Hmm. Looks pretty cool actually haha might have to try that out! 🤔😂🤙🏽
Haha yeah just one of my favorite hats and happened to be the one I grabbed that day. 🤷🏻♂️😊 Didn’t even make the connection probably because when I think of Cabela’s I think of fishing. 🎣😎🤙🏽
Nice video. None of that stuff is top of the line, but a lot of your gear, especially if you're just out camping for the weekend, doesn't have to be. I do all different kinds of camping, from survival to travel trailer and in all of it, there is some Walmart stuff. Not a big fan of the Nextel air mattresses though.
Thanks 👊🏽😊 Yeah obviously you can get way better gear if you want to spend up for it but ya know, this is just some of the stuff you can grab at Walmart that’ll get er done. 😊🤙🏽
My local Walmart is a supercenter market and it looks nothing like this, our camping section has gone down to 1 aisle with little to nothing available! It really sux, in porter ranch, CA. Btw!
Ahhh man! That does suck! Drive on up Santa Clarita! That’s where this one is! 😃 We have been to a few in the LA area actually and some are definitely better than others. Sometimes I’ll score some deals on the Walmart app and just get it delivered 😂😎🤙🏽
Good thing with Santa Clarita, there’s 2 supercenters, one in Canyon Country which has a decent selection of camping gear and this one here off of Newhall Ranch Rd. Don’t usually go to the Newhall Ranch Rd one but their selection also looks real nice too
Coleman sleeping bags have the best zippers that zip down and up without issue. The cheaper sleeping bags have cheap zippers that come apart causing unnecessary cold drafts that are frustrating issues that will cause sleeping problems if aren't addressed immediately and sometimes rendering the sleeping bag unless as a sleeping bag.
Yeah…. So many people are saying that. 😕 There are actually 3 in this area, all have a camping section, but this one is definitely the biggest. Idk why they aren’t all the same? 🤷🏻♂️🙄
OT of 10 years ago is now the Coleman line at Sam Walton's Merchantile. The modern Ozark Trail tents and bags are a bit problematic, as they switched to lower grade mfg in 2018. Opt for the Coleman line in sleeping kit if at WM unless it is backyard kid sleepouts. The gadget stuff OT is still fine for car camping. Chairs, tables, pegs, the stoves, coffee pots, boiler cups, air pumps and polystrand tarps. I like $10 tarps as footprints if I cut them to size or fold them under to not protrude. Ditty bags, cheaper backpacks are OK for the occasional day hiker. The bottle filter at $30 is a third the price at an outfitter and fit a SmartWater bottle or 2L soda bottle perfectly. WM has the knockoff BRS mini butane stove with the propane adapter and stand for $12....the lowest I've ever found that was $7 at Amazon...but I should have bought the WM one to get the adapter and stand. BTW they last FOREVER. The OT butane one burner close up stove is $20 and nearly identical to the Coleman one. However WM seldom has those skinny butane cans. The OT version of the Coleman 2 burner propane is $35 but it is very flimsy metal. It does work though. I bought one for $28 and use it at home when the power goes out. Intex air beds are better than they used to be...far better. The iron cookware is very course sandcast, but half the price of Lodge...which itself is somewhat lower grade...however if you season it with a puddle of oil in the oven for an hour...they're fine. Sleeping bags are best from an outfitter or a hunting store. Real Polartec loft filler beats knockoff and weighs nearly nothing.
Man. So many people are saying that! That really sucks! 🤦🏻♂️ Idk why they do that, but yeah we have another one by us that still has plenty of camping stuff but not as much as this one did.
Just wanted to clarify that this video is only applicable to US walmarts. You will not find even half of the items suggested here in a Canadian walmart.
The shepherd's hook stakes (steel or aluminum) and the Y-stakes in aluminum are way too soft and weak for the rocky ground in Arizona. The 10 inch steel "nail" stakes are the only ones that will hold up. Premium hardened aluminum Y-stakes like MSR Groundhogs will work, but I've never seen them in WM stores.
I’m not a fan of Walmart tents. But they still have some decent stuff. Usually what I buy are butane fuel, fire starter cubes, and freeze dried food. I’m addicted to s’mores so I pick up some bamboo secures, plus they sell all the ingredients. The fact that they sell Sawyer filters is awesome; plus they sell chemical purifier cleaner products too. Plus they have a good selection of reasonably priced camp char’s too. Don’t forget about the Mr Buddy propane heaters and all kind of insect repellent products too.
Yeah they definitely have some good stuff 😊 Have you ever tried s’mores in ice cream cones? You can just stuff the cones with chocolate and marshmallows or whatever else you like, wrap them up in foil and throw them on the fire or grill for a minute, not bad 😎🤙🏽
@@MeOutside Exactly 😊 Just eat the cone as you would with ice cream just as long as it doesn’t break or have a leak at the bottom! Haha always hate that 😁 But yeah since you said you really liked s’mores I just thought you might like that. Give it a go! ☺️🤙🏽
@@MeOutside Avon Skin-So-Soft bug spray repellent is the only one I’ve found that works. And it’s not cheap. I’ve tried using Deet as the main ingredient within Walmart sprays & still No Luck😩
@@lauralei6963 We actually don’t use any bug spray at all anymore we just burn a little white sage around the site and it really helps keep mosquitos away 😊🤙🏽
Not sure how long ago you both made this video. But I was a little disappointed that you didn't mention some Orange color 550 Paracord. And in my opinion those foldable sleeping pads are pretty uncomfortable to get a good nights sleep. At least my local Walmart store carries the Klymit brand Static-V sleeping pads and I actually use one of those foldable sleeping pads underneath it. Though you both are right about one thing and that is tent size. For people who are just getting into camping and hiking. They should definitely get a good brand tent. That can sleep more people than actually needed. Because that way they can put their personal items inside the tent with them and still have plenty of room. Though the video seemed like you both were in a hurry to get threw the camping and hiking gear section at your local Walmart store. I can definitely understand that you both were the camping and hiking gear section as fast as you could. Because I'm sure Walmart would not appreciate a whole camera crew. Walking around the store as you both were going through the camping and hiking gear section.
pretty cool. i must admit, i have bought a lot of camping gear at walmart, and the rest off Amazon, it was cheaper.(but i cancelled my Amazon) but i have everything i need now, good video though.
Ahhh yeah we’ve heard that a lot so we made another Walmart video a couple weeks ago to show all the camping stuff you can find that’s NOT in the camping section. 😊🤙🏽

Sweeeeeet. 😊 Yeah sometimes they have some incredible deals there if you keep your eyes open! We have definitely scored a few times where it’s was like a mind blowing deal, usual right before they’re about to change up seasons or isle construction 😎🤙🏽
Yeah but since I had my surgery I can't sleep flat harbe to be at a angle otherwise I asparate it sucks I have to figure something out before I go camping again
I don't know about others, but my local Walmarts have NO Mountain House meals. 2 weeks ago the Natchez Ms store had 1 meal. So, they've not reordered. Also, no Sawyer filters. But there are 2 filter straw / bottles I've never heard of. Is this local, or corporate wide? Im not wasting my time asking the random employee.
They had a bunch of mountain house meals at ours and then the next time we went they didn’t have any. Will have to check again next time we go that’s interesting 🤔
@@WhereWeWild They've probably dropped them. Over the last 6 months or so the pickings got leaner and leaner. I didn't notice if they've dropped Wise or other prepper buckets, but I never do...because they suck. I like your vids, and understand the more family oriented content. As for the folks calling y'all wimpy, You do You. At 69 I like my comfort and have grown smart enough to make sure of it. 4 or 5 years ago I discovered that crawling in and out of bed in a tiny tent ain't for me anymore! Y'all have a GOODN.
Hahaha thanks most of those types of comments are from hardcore backpackers and stuff haha and they just don’t seem to understand that most people who want to go camping for the first time or learn about it are more interested in ways to keep it a little more comfortable and safe for them and their families. So many people say that! 🤷🏻♂️😃 We have a few Walmarts by us and they all have a fishing and camping section that are fairly similar but some are slightly better than others. So interesting 🤔

Interesting. Oh yeah they aren’t the best thing we’ve ever tasted lol but with that shelf life they are great to have in your emergency kit for sure! Lasagna with meat sauce has been our favorite so far 😂🤙🏽

Okay, I need to know the exact location of this walmart! mine is seriously lacking, just a tiny 10 ft aisle 😢.
Ahhhh man 🙁 This one is in Santa Clarita, California
Sheeesh you are stylin! 😎😃🤙🏽 And awesome! Welcome to the channel thanks so much for watching! ☺️
The blue closed cell foam pads are the best deal, always have 1 or 2 in my car. They are impervious to the doggie toenails unlike the bare tent floor, plus put one under your inflatable pads to double its warmth and backup if the upper pad springs a leak!
Nice! 😊👍🏽
Every time I go camping I add an additional tent peg or two from previous campers leaving it in the ground. I have enough pegs to set up Butning man. 😁
Lol nice 😁 We have found hundreds of em from anytime I decide to bring the old metal detector to the beach 🤦🏻♂️😂
The hickory handled hatchet is also quite good. Pick one that has the grain parallel to the head. Also get a 2-way flat bastard (mower type) file from the hardware section because the hatchet needs the edge profiled and sharpened.
Oh dude you have problems…. We are going to get along 😎😂🤙🏽
Great video! The intro had me thinking i was watching nearly 2000’s high school movie like “Big Fat Liar” 😂

Haha thanks man! 😃😃😃🤙🏽 You know my favorite isle though 🎣😎😂
Thos water filter are good but they do not filter out viruses you can still get sick. They ones that do are like 80 to 100 bucks but very worth it imo. I like the greyl geopress you should check it out !
99.9999999% doesn’t filter viruses??? 😳 What viruses are we talking about here? And what’s the name of the filter that is better? 🤔

I recommend starting cheap. Making your equipment.. Using recycled stuff. Make your padding....make your tarp. Make a wood burning stove...plastic cups and plates....dont take lavish meals. .....then if you like going camping regularly.......start adding stuff.
Thank you for the advice, going camping soon
No prob hope you have fun! 👊🏽😊
Thanks guys! Im gonna head there!

Good tips, only issue is the air mattresses are not good quality. I’ve gone through 2. They don’t stay inflated
Thanks 👊🏽😊 And really? Do you have an Intex?
I like camping very much too.
Ozark trail tent I had I had to apply more waterproof to it because it didn’t hold up to rain here in Missouri

Yeah 🤷🏻♂️😂 Was I supposed to be wearing a Walmart hat because I went there that day? 🤔😂
Just FYI, if you have to really drive tent stakes into hard ground, theyre really difficult to pull back outta the ground. Dollar Tree has small crow bars that work like a charm in getting those stakes back!

In the party section of wallyworld they sell a variety of glow in the dark jewelry, tape or ziptie a glo necklace to the guylines of your tents/canopies.

Their Ozark Trail insulated shoulder bags are terrific.
For the money I mean 🤷🏻♂️😊
I wish Walmart would carry the Life Straw water filters again. They were easier to store in a BOB. Be safe my friends.
Yeah they should. We actually just found those at Costco recently on a great deal! 😃🤙🏽
They do carry a couple kinds of chlorine dioxide water treatment (drops and tablets), which are excellent to kill off the critters, even crypto-sporidia.
That is one well stocked Walmart. Good deals on Chinese goods.
Haha yeah this one is pretty good especially in the spring and summer.
What do you guys think of the 15 inch ozark trail smokeless fire pit?

"That’s hilarious-rocking a Cabela’s hat while shopping for camping gear at Walmart! Love the irony!"

Good thing with Santa Clarita, there’s 2 supercenters, one in Canyon Country which has a decent selection of camping gear and this one here off of Newhall Ranch Rd. Don’t usually go to the Newhall Ranch Rd one but their selection also looks real nice too
same here in Alabama
Keep your tent receipt.
Coleman has some decent stuff 😊
You can rub a crayon or a candle on any zipper for an easier zip. Or, Irish spring bar soap on the zipper. Bonus is that bugs hate it
They must have a big city Walmart, our Walmart has a small camping selection 😂
Right on 😎💯🤙🏽
Mostly every camping item my wife n i have is Ozark Trail. I havent had any issues with anything from them.
Right on man! 👊🏽😃 Lot of people talk smack about Ozark Trail haha but we have definitely found some stuff that has been great! 😎🤙🏽
Just buy a grate and cook over the 🔥.
That’s our favorite way 🔥😎🤙🏽
Buy at the end of the season on the clearance isle for the next season.
Yeah sometimes they have some great deals 😎🤙🏽
The walmarts near me don't carry even ten percent of the selection you showed at your walmart.
Have heard that a lot! Hope they have a fishing section at least! 🤦🏻♂️😂
@@WhereWeWildthey do have one.. but its only about half an isle
Right on man 👊🏽 That’s why I think I mentioned you need different ones for each environment. 🤙🏽
@@WhereWeWild That’s not a bad idea. Less likely to get chocolate all over your hands.
