    Hey, big fan of your videos! Love discovering new open-source stuff, and to have them presented in a concise video format keeps me coming back.
    One tip I'd have is to maybe go into a bit more detail on the drawbacks/pros and cons of the software you show. For instance, I don't think most people would be able to make much use of Deskreen for terminal purposes due to the input lag, unless their mobile device were to be plugged into ethernet. That being said, it still seems to be a great program to use in a pinch. I could see it being useful for remote work.
    Have a good day.

    - to register software licenses, activationcodes etc.
    - to register purchases of all sources with the opertunity to add a copy of the bill with the warranty time, categories etc.

    How much bandwidth does it consume? uploading & downloading compared to other streams?
    One possible way is screen mirroring a free or limited zoom-like conference call screen via one laptop & multiple phones...
    Or printing the QR code to mirror a video presentation for classes of students?

  • @chrisbowie1438
    @chrisbowie1438 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    This is cool but to me its not doing what the title of the video says. This is screen or app sharing to mirror/cast to another device, not the ability to have an additional display you can use such as when you have multiple monitors hooked up to a PC and can move stuff between monitors. You still have to go back to that app's window to interact with it. Not sure if this was what other people expected clicking into this video but that's what I thought when I saw the title in my feed. I expected a way to extend my desktop to another screen without buying another monitor or those USB portable monitors.

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Didn't mean to confuse, or mislead you, just wanted to show you some cool open source software. I still think it's useful, just not doing quite what you expect. I think that's where the dongle comes in...where you setup a "2nd monitor" that isn't there, and then share that to the device. I may do a follow up to show how that can work.

    • @chrisbowie1438
      @chrisbowie1438 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AwesomeOpenSource Thanks! yeah absolutely I think that would be cool. I didn't notice there was a hardware piece.

    • @danieldantur2719
      @danieldantur2719 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a monitor with two inputs, let's say HDMI and DVI and you are using de HDMI connection, you can plug your PC to the DVI cable too, your OS will detect that connection even if you can't see both at the same time in your monitor, then you can share that 'extra' monitor with Deskcreen.
      Another way to achieve the same is creating an extra virtual monitor using xrandr, for example, and sharing that one. This one is useful if you don't have an extra video output.
      It works great either way.
      One thing to notice: the extra monitor will exist even if you are not sharing it and you can't see it so you might lose some applications in that invisible monitor. Have that in mind.

      @mrfrenzy. ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I think this is a great application for some uses, but I had hoped there was a driver to simulate a second monitor, so you can move the mouse to the edge of your screen and interact with software on the second screen.

  • @sakmaestro3852

    Great app! I have a question, can i use projector as secondary screen?

    • @avantgardethemighty6724
      @avantgardethemighty6724 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your hardware supports it (i.e. your computer has a free display slot) you should be able to hook it up directly; if it has a browser you could giving the tool a shot (tho note that you still need a dummy adapter then to get a true second screen instead of a capture of what you can already see)

    • @AwesomeOpenSource
      @AwesomeOpenSource  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Like previously mentioned connecting directly may be easier, but if that's not possible, something like a raspberry pi could be attached to the projector, and then use a browser to access the URL that is created.

    • @scheimong
      @scheimong ปีที่แล้ว

      Truth be told, I'm more concerned about the efficiency rather than "system too slow to keep up". I will most likely want such a functionality when on-the-go, so keeping CPU utilisation low is important.
      All developers like to claim their application is "blazing fast" to the point where it's become a meme at this point, but the harsh reality is, TS & JS based applications simply cannot compete with compiled languages when it comes to being fast and efficient.
