The moment when he greeted his grandfather’s friend was moving. You could see the authenticity and humanity shine out of him.
I just shed a tear as Judge Rinder did when he hugged Sir Ben Helfgott. Such an emotional moment indeed.

We need to make sure our youth are knowledgeable about our history. Never forget.
Most importantly they need to know the TRUTH of WWII forced labor camps.
It'll never happen in America, where the public school system, laughingly called "Public Education", goes out of it's way to trash our history and heritage , all courtesy of the taxpayer and uncaring parents who shouldn't have had kids in the first place.
people are trying to erase all this history, sickening.

He sounds so different off the TV, his voice sounds completely different, sounds like he has a German twang, but on TV he sounds very London. I adore Robert anyway but you can see his soul on display here, just loving, wanting to help people
Amy's Angel Guidance Sometimes your voice changes depending on who you are around as well. His accent might have hanged because he was with someone from his childhood.

I AAAALWAYS pick up accents when I go abroad. I studied in Sweden for a few weeks and came back with a full Swen-glish accent that I didn’t shake for ages 🙈
I think Robert might have done what my Mum had us do, possibly for the same reasons. When i was a child, my mum was city born, dad was 100% country. Mum knew a lot of my dads people felt you were uppity if you spoke distinctly and used high tone words. She told us kids to be sure and not be disrespectful because they were very good, hard working people who deserved our admiration. She was right! Mum asked us to listen to how they spoke (the words they used, how they pronounced the words) and try to make our speech as similar as possible. It worked beautifully! They felt we were respectful and studious. They loved it even more when we helped them without being asked. Im so glad Mum taught us to listen first and say second. That resulted in us having two types of talking. It has benefited us greatly over the years talking to folks from all walks of life. What wonderful memories we have from something so simple!
@@willowsverge3046 I'm a New Yorker, but from a military family, so we moved around a lot when I was young. I lost my accent (or my ability to hear it), but when I'm home in the Bronx, it gradually comes back. I love my accent, and I now live in Texas. A few years ago, one of my friends from Texas accompanied me on a visit home, and was shocked to hear my accent come back after two days. She told me it sounded great and was like, "keep it". So I did.
Do not forget. Even if your immediate family did not experience the horror of this war. Do not forget the stories. This will happen again if you say, oh that can't happen now... It can. It will if you forget...

It happened again very recently in the Serb-Croat wars. The difference was the scale.

My farther, came from riga lativia , due to forced german occupation, his family never made it through the war, myself and my cousin are the only survivors, a war so long ago still effects life today

David Salins my grandfather’s family was also from Riga. There were few survivors in his family as well. The past isn’t far behind when you’ve lost a good part of your family.

Firstly, Rob Rinder is an amazing human being. Secondly, as a history teacher, we must never forget what depravity and brutality human beings can inflict on others. However, we are also capable of great kindness and great love. Rob, I’m so sad your family suffered this great cruelty! As for the Lake District, I met a survivor who settled in to living there. His story was beyond heartbreaking. His entire family were dead. But he married, had children, was so thrilled to have settled in to the beautiful Lakes. I cried like I would never stop. We must never forget!

I admire him very much, from his dedication in studying seven years to be a Barrister, his intelligence, to his humor and beautiful accent. His grandfather would be very proud of what he has made of himself.
My mother lived through this awful time in history and the stories she tells is so emotional.....the stories of the German soldiers coming into the village she lived in....so sad....God Bless
Sadly, with current events happening, it's clear humanity still hasn't learned the valuable lessons of not repeating its mistakes.

I am in the US. I had never heard of Judge Rinder. I think now I am pretty much in love with him.

Fascinating Thank you for sharing. My father fought for the US Army during WWII he told me stories and photographed his journey of war from his view. It is an atrocity that people are trying to say that this never happened.😡😢

my great grandfather luckily made it through tge war he took apart the first German plane to be shot down over Britain he then went over seas to help fight my great gran she was a nurse in the war she was in france at one point and she said she was moved at the end to help these poor people whi were in the camps and she said it was a living nightmare...she is now very ill her mind is regressing she is stuck back in that time she cries she screams out at the horror she offers her food to people thinking they are her patients.....

@@theonionsystem7779 thank you she will be 96 this year and as awful as this sounds she is ready to go her mind has taken her back to that awful time so she must suffer every day although when she told us stories she did also point out as horrific as it was she also saw amazing feats of kindness that shes never seen before or after
she is loved and has been loved all her life she is fiery and funny and cheeky so even though it will break my heart when she goes at least then she gets some peace x

Robert I could see the humble man within you as you found out the truth, about your Grandfather. You and I live in a world that remembers the horrific events, but your Grandfather experienced the horric events.
It’s so heartbreaking and humbling to think of what all these people went through. God bless you! How can people deny that this happened?
It is _so_ important that these experiences continue to be told. For our children, and just as importantly for the men and women who suffered through them.
To think this was _only_ roughly 75 years ago is too close for comfort. To know that I share space with people who are able to remember the horror just before, during, and _after_ WWII is horrifying but also plainly incredible as they survived *absolute hell* and are still here to talk of it. They may have lost everything, to include for some their entire family, immediate and extended.
This sounds so much like my grandmother’s story. It is so hard to hear and so important to tell.
Dear judge Rinder my heart is broken to watch your grandfather's friend explain how they were forced to work without food & water & shoes I am truely sorry but greatful you got a chance to visit and see with your eyes where some of the horrific treatments were to learn about your grandfathers life was terribly hard I can imagine for you I know that our creator has given your grandfather and all of the holocaust victims the softest cloud to watch over the loved ones and friends on earth today may you be GRANTED the same cozy clouds as your family I am honored by you for sharing your very personal experience with that I know your grandfather is your guardian angel may your days be blessed with ALLLLL the good that life has to bring I thank you very much ,Meredith Jean Ahern-Tamilio 🌹🙏

Judge Rinder, what a moment it was for you to travel back and reunite with your grandfathers friend, which you can call family. I wrote a biography on my grandparents, escaping out of Italy under the Germain invasion. I would be honored to send you a copy of my book. Also enjoying your show. Thank You history is so important.
Absolutely awful, I’m glad that he could learn more about his Family but my heart breaks for people having to learn their family went through these awful atrocities.
My great grandad lived through the war and I am so very thankful for that. He would tell me stories of how hard it was and how there was holes between the houses so that people could run through them to get to safety if bombs were hitting the one side etc. The way these people were treated was so awful. I love Robert I have so much respect for him. He’s a compassionate and understanding human being and I’m so sorry for the way his grandfather suffered. May he rest in peace ❤️
I read so much about the Holocaust and WWII, but when I learned that I had family that didn't survive through the camps, it made this topic so much harder to read about.
Although it was the most horrible place he'd ever been, it's in ruins and he is standing on the rubble. Courageous man to go back there and tell in detail what happened.
not all of them are though. Auschwitz I is still pretty intact. I've been there. At night. we had a private tour - I was so...stunned to be actually standing at the gates, I lost my group. Let me tell you, running around at night, in the snow at -10 degrees when you're 15 isn't funny. and then you think about the experiences of the millions of people who died and you...well, let's just say...our teachers didn't just turn a blind eye to our blind eye to our drinking and smoking, they actively joined in. It was a helluva trip. wouldn't changed it for the world though
My grandfather was at birkenau, and I refuse to go because I can't handle seeing it. He always respected my decision. I miss you, Zayda!❤
Birkenau and Auschwitz 1 are very hard to take. You don´t have to visit this place to realize what a hell it was, but of course it is helpful, because the sheer size of Birkenau is unbelievable. we have to defend democrazy and humanity every single day to prevent new camps.
It’s a rough visit but I’m glad I went. We need to see and remember. ☹️
I could not imagine the horrors these poor people went through at the hands of wicked evil people.....my father told me stories he was a prisoner of war how sad
Very touching, love judge Rinder. No coats, shoes what these people went through.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Just walking on this ground where those were made to work the feeling you would get. His grandfather eyes, starvation. God be with them.
Listening to the stories of those before us that have suffered through so much. You gain so much respect for these people. You must never forget.

My grandfather was a child during the occupation in Holland. He and his siblings also celebrated every occasion at a buffet restaurant. Because there was nothing more happy than full bellies
Thank you for sharing ! This means alot to me and my family..I head a lot of stories from them about what they went through. my relatives had numbers on there arms and lived the rest of there lives with the hell that happened. I pray this will never happen aging .

I love judge Rinder... This hits home for me. I just found out my family history and im disgusted with my family. They were Nazis and my grandmother is still practicing it today. My mother was lucky to be born with brown hair otherwise her mother would have molded her that way too....

The stuttering that begins when he tells about the camps and grandfather. So sad.
It is Me the violence of this war was so traumatizing that many who survived simply blocked out the memory. I just read a book for a class about the Soviet experience during the war and the things they saw (including the absolute slaughter of their own people not just combat) were so horrific that the survivors who returned simply couldn’t remember the details of their experiences and many just refused to talk about it period instead telling patriotic myths. This is both soldiers and civilians.

It's quite common when your brought up around that accent ( family or in the country) and then back around it ...it elevates.

@@arikrampus6825 I can confirm this. My accent changed drastically after I moved from my home, and then when I'd revisit it would revert back to it's original state. Really odd, but kind of cool!
Mine goes Scandinavian. I grew up with a Swedish grandma and Norwegian Grandpa. And I’m in the states.

We don't ask to see it at the same time it is being aired on television. But once in syndication they could put it on TH-cam and still make money off of it.
