It was worth the time spent creating this video, Shimmy. You give a clear and broad look at something as complex as what sells in a design. One of those videos that I can watch over and over again to refine the creation of my next designs. Great content as always. Don't worry, 100,000 followers are almost there.
thanks so much!!! was well worth it!
I just got an inspiration for a design while watching this video. Great work, Shimmy.
oh nice!!!
I can’t believe retro sunsets are still going strong.
course!!
Brilliant as always Shimmy!
Thank you so much!
I found that model mockups are very popular amongst women’s designs, not so much with men’s designs
Thank you for your work. Shimmy. Awesome job 👍
First time I’ve heard someone recommend flat lays instead of human models for mockups - I agree that it looks better on the flat lays but I’ve heard people are more drawn to the human mock ups. Just curious if you saw more successful listings with flat lays or if the flat lays just visually looked better
wayyyyy more successful designs when using flat lays. The main issue with models is they take away from the main focal point of the mockup which is the design. You don't want to distract a potential buyer, you want to lead them straight to the design so they buy
@@shimmymorris1 that makes sense! Looks like I’ve got some work to do! 😂
@@shimmymorris1 But that would be why you zoom in for the thumbnail, no?
@@arkikali5632 what do you mean?
@@shimmymorris1 Well, you cited the focus being on the model as one of the big drawbacks of model mockups. But when you're setting up your listing in Etsy, there's an option to adjust the mockup thumbnail, which is what shows up on the main search page. So common advice / arguably best practices is to zoom in so that the shirt nearly fills the thumbnail canvas, but then when people click into your listing, they see they full-size / uncropped mockup. Hope that makes sense.
SUCH a good video Shimmy! Thank you!
You're so welcome! so happy you liked it
Thank you Shimmy for this very useful overview and for all your tutiruals.
Interesting that you suggest not using model mockups as it detracts from the design, whilst many Etsy tutots state the very opposite saying that potential customers want and need to visualise how the design looks in real-time.
I guess you can only go by what you've analysed and the data associated with that.
This was a surprising point in video for me too. I wonder if he's analyzing mostly Shopify, and Amazon Merch?
This is referring to the main photo. Model mock-ups can be useful as the 3rd or 4th image maybe.
I analysed Etsy amazon and Shopify.
Main issue with mockups are they look sooo fake and everyone knows it
@shimmymorris1 Yes, I understood that you meant about models not being main photo. So many of the primary listing are models 🙆🏾♀️
Thank you for all your helpful videos!😀🥰
You are so welcome!
Have to say that this video was an eye opener and I need to change and update loads.
so glad it helped!!
Thanks for the tip about funny T-shirts working so well. That's really important to know. 👍
no problem!
Thank you! Grateful I found you. Have a great day
Thank you! You too!
Valuable info, thank you
thank you!
Another informative episode..... good job Shimmy
thanks so much!
Thank you very much for sharing❤
You’re welcome!
Bro u r giving informations that aren't even in paid courses. Thanks a lot
thanks so much! glad you liked it
Everyone else says to use human models for mockups. I do zoom in and crop the models at their chin so that the shirt is the main focus, but I do worry about selling unisex designs on models that are one or the other gender.
It's not me saying not to use it. It's the data I gathered from looking at nearly 10k designs.
Thank you shimmy for the great video ,i have question where i can find a good flat lays mockups please ?
Glad you liked it. I bought mine on Etsy from a seller. They sold a bundle of Gildan 64000 mock-ups
Thank you!!! Going to go in and fix these thumbnails and honestly I hate using model mock ups because they take so much time to do! I need to add more stuff to my shop.
ye i haven't used them in ages! When I next do i'll be taking my own photos
Great Video, Shimmy. I've not been able to find information on FULL FRONT designs vs BACK PRINT with a LEFT CHEST design. Do you full front designs typically sell better?
They are certainly more popular. I saw very few. back designs in my research, but that doesn't mean they can't work
Amazing content, thank you so much for all your hard work! I wish you had a course-April

@@shimmymorris1 Thank you.
Well, 6.10 has just saved me a bunch of time - thanks, Shimmy 👍
And 12.54 too - I gotta swap some pictures around tonight!
Thanks for the timestamps. I usually start watching the videos from the middle
so happy it helped!
Great video, Shimmy! I have a question, and I'm not sure you've covered it on your channel. How do you handle sales tax through Shopify? Is that handled by Shopify? Or are you responsible for it? And what about sales that are made in the US or other countries? I'm on Etsy now, and they currently handle the sales tax. But at some point, I want to move to Shopify. Thank you so much!
You can sort that out in the settings on Shopify. ☺️ have based on country etc
Any idea what the top 3 best fonts are?
there isn't really a top 3. Hundreds of different fonts are used. We made an infographic of the tops fonts, but it wasn't the top 3 (The infographic is in our community)
So Shimmy one question, most of POD gurus say follow only one niche for multiple products type or only one product type with various niches. But your design predicts various niches, so market place where selling products won't get confused what i am trying to sell or attract the trageted customers through organic traffic? As i am planning to open etsy pod by using 6 product types with focusing on 3type of niches at the beginning. Kindly suggest whether i am good to go with this thought or follow only the pod gurus .
It depends on the platform really. I really only recommend T-shirts although other products can work. With Etsy I would suggest multiple niches and organise with etsy categories.
@@shimmymorris1 Thanks
What is your opinion about pricing strategy?
I price between $27-$31 for my tshirts on Shopify. All platforms are different and would need different price points to do well
great video shimmy, i have a question that migh be off topic, i'm just curious how much profit can be made selling one T-shirt ? what is the range ? less than 10 dollars ? or can you profit more than 10 dollars in one item ?
and i want to know when starting a Shopify POD, is the best strategy is to just stick to one niche to better target your audience and customers ?
Thank you so much shimmy, you're one of the few that are really awesome and authentic that i ever watched , keep it up !
It depends on the platform you sell on. Our profit on Shopify for 1 t-shirt is $17-$20. But then you have other costs and ads if you want to go down the ads route. We end up profiting about 30% so around the $8-$11 range
@@shimmymorris1 thank you so much shimmy , can't thank you enough ♥️
Hi @shimmy, great video as always :) I applied to join the Free Community a few weeks ago but haven't heard anything. Please let me know if there's a problem, thanks.
Thank you!! It’s been a really crazy week so haven’t had much time to get to the free community. But will get to all asap!
@@shimmymorris1 👍
Thanks for a great video! Very informative! On the last point, you say you should never use a mockup on a model as your main thumbnail. On Etsy, 95% of all the thumbnails have a model. In my humble opinion, the ones without look cheap and lazy, and I have lower expectations for it to be a quality product with good customer service. Could you help clarify this point?
Funnily enough every mockup on Etsy that’s the main image that has a model goes against their T&Cs… so be careful.
Also surprisingly it’s not 95%. On first glance it may look like that. But when you dig deeper and start looking at tens of thousands of Etsy listings. You’ll realise the vast majority that are actually performing well don’t include a model in their first mock up
Sir where can I get 100% free mockups and tech pack templates for making my own clothing brand ?
Are you not accepting Print on Demand Experts free community membership requests? Have been waiting membership approval for one week and still pending
i am, it's just been a crazy crazy week so haven't had much time to get to the free community. I will get to it ASAP. Thanks for being so patient. (I'm looking to remove the approval part as soon as I find someone to help me manage it)
how do you ship to other countries than US with swiftpod? shipping is too expensive
i'll use country specific printers
I did the shirt only on etsy and it did nothing, etsy does all model mockups, its really irritating
What do u mean Etsy does all model mockups?
Dare I say: I watched this video and all I got was a stupid idea for a tee shirt.
hahaha
