The film of civilians at Saipan committing suicide are films I saw in school as a ten year old kid. Now we can’t see it as adults. Wow, we are really getting soft.
Take it up with TH-cam then, the series used to be shown on TV before TH-cam came along, try watching the TV channel Yesterday if you want the unblurred version.
What's with all the blurred out images? Is this just a youtube thing because I remember seeing these episodes on the Military Channel with all the graphic images intact.
Not sure if you're familiar with this series? All of the youtube episodes are actually a half episode of the original format so decent chance they Is did dive deeper-but you probably would be more upset if they did - their strength is discussing leaders, tactics and strategic level map movement...you COULD talk about those for the air war in Europe of course but most documentaries discuss Performance & pilots.
You could always go and look for the video that dealt with that soley, the title of this video tells you all you need to know what its about. This comment shows you have only just found them and know nothing about how they do things, plus this video is on TH-cam whereas it used to be shown on TV.
As I watched the fighting on the Burma Road I see what my cousins, brothers did. 1st Lt Jack L Knight was KIA Feb 2, 1945. He was awarded the Medal Of Honor. His younger brother Curtis Knight was baddly wounded the same day but was able to come home for the ceremony as their father received Jack's medal. It was June 6 1945. One year anniversary of D DAY.
A good documentary but blurring out the images is un historic. . It is something we do not want to see but must to understand how bad war really is . These men were heroes.
I used to love these documentaries, until YT decided to start cecensorship in order to shield us from the reality. Put a content warning or somthin at the beginning. YT you are censoring actual history..
8:30 “reconnaissance had failed to reveal that the water was to shallow for the landing craft” That’s not really true. They knew it was possibly too shallow and made sure they had as many Amtrak as possible because of their tracks but estimated the Higgins boats would make it but as it turned out it was too shallow.
Upon the surrender of Japan, some 45,000 Japanese Prisoners of War were in the custody of American authorities in the Philippines. These POWs were held in a number of camps around the country, and were used as labor for war reparation. Gen. MacArthur formed the Philippine War Crimes Commission, while Pres. Sergio Osmeña formed the National War Crimes Office. Both offices supported each other in the pursuit of war crimes trial in Tokyo, and later on the Philippine War Crimes Trial.
This is ridiculous to blur out parts. 1st of all these are old & have been seen before without being blurred. 2nd, an earlier comment mentioned the fact that this is history. A warning before it's shown or periodically is enough. Most are not interested in gore so that's not what is upsetting. Blurring helps to lose the storyline. Personally, I usually watch something else. It becomes to irritating to watch.
At 24:10, they neglected to mention that in January 1942, FDR had personally promised the Philippine President that we would “never rest” until we had liberated the archipelago.

On the one hand, the Kamikaze program strikes me as sheer madness. On the other hand, Japanese pilots were getting killed in their conventional strikes anyway. So the Japanese military leadership decided that if their pilots were going to die anyway, then they should die in a way which maximized their enemies' casualties.

Poor kamikazes. They got scammed by their own superiors and ideology, thinking they were doing something good for their country. Rather they died in vain, supporting a war criminal and his cronies.
Sorry But was it The Us Navy Aircraft or Submarines that Sunk 2 Aircraft Carriers. Sorry but it was the Aircraft from Carriers that sunk all 4 Japanese carriers
4:00 the Navy's plan was far superior to McArthur's; it would have meant many fewer casualties for America. Japan was an island nation, and so subject to isolation by a much superior naval force. McArthur was a political windbag, not an effective strategist.
You do not present the Philippines option fairly. Yes, the Philippines would prove costly. But if you would have asked the Filipinos who were American subjects at the time, very few would have said, don't liberate us. And you ignore the American civilians and POWs being held in squalid camps and beginning to starve. Nor do you mention that Formosa (Taiwan) would have been a very tough nut to crack. I was well-defended and mountainous.
I would not have sent those boys out on the raid where they'd come back at night really low on fuel! They did not deserve that kind of stress on top of what they were already enduring and what they had already accomplished! The U.S. lost 80 planes and how would you like to run out of fuel over the ocean in a plane at night! Bad call Admiral... I think it was a call of his own personal vendetta against the Japanese and he was not really thinking of his boys.. Then he puts the ships lights on at night which could of got him SUNK the damn fool!
