I remember In the late 80s and 90s when raw limestone was dumped on the job site by dump truck. We would have to cut and face each and every stone. We never laid a stone on a soft surface to be faced no matter how thin, we had cinder blocks stacked up to waists height and then plywood with 2x6 sandwiched in between for our chisel pad. I can remember when we were done with a job the mountain of lime stone chips the builder had to dispose of.
