      I purchased refurbed Ultra for half the price on Amazon. No problems.. very happy. You can;t zoom into the 1080p and get a readable lisc. plate. I can with the Arlo Ultra 4k. You do have to pay the $15 a month to get the 4k cloud clips. But worth it in my opinion. Think the company made some firmware updates to fix previous issues. I did install a wifi6 mesh network so no problems with the speed or wifi connections, but anyone considering, wifi quality, how many devices on the wifi router and range should be considered before you buy.

    I've three outside cameras, and all three have developed corrosion that Arlo won't warranty. The oldest was purchased in autumn 2021, and the newest in fall 2022. None of the three has made it two years outside, and now I've had to replace one because the internal corrosion was so bad one of the charging contacts on the camera body broke off. Though Arlo support says that shouldn't be happening, they won't warranty it when it does. Three cameras. You know what they cost, as you've paid for them yourself.
    The kicker was today. Order and Ultra 2, and they double charged it, so the account got overdrawn. On Labor Day? Really? So if you like stress, disappointment for your hard earned dollars, go ahead and buy Arlo. They take really great video...

    The camera will have hard time detecting through the glass. This is already a known issue with Arlo.

    • @PegiZone
      @PegiZone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s not a known issue with Arlo. This is expected behavior with every passive infrared motion sensor. Modern glass is designed to block all infrared radiations through it - the technology powering most motion sensors, today. Since these windows insulate the radiations, the motion sensors don’t detect anything. That’s why you shouldn’t position these cameras behind windows/glass.

  • @johnathanwetherill456
    @johnathanwetherill456 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It clearly states not to be used behind glass as it will effect functionality . Like almost all cameras .

  • @jeromearmstrong5550
    @jeromearmstrong5550 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Do infrared cameras work through glass
    If your camera uses its IR sensors for motion detection, you won't get any alerts behind glass. Just like with your night video, the IR is bouncing off your window before it can ever reach a potential human. ... Pixel-based motion detection doesn't have this issue and can work through windows.
    Not sure about the newer technology, but my old Arlo's use IR for motion detection.

    • @ITechedUp
      @ITechedUp  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jerome thanks for the info.
      I tried positioning the camera inside the window between the glass and the mesh, still no motion was detected due to the distance. I also tried it on the balcony, same result for the most part.
      But thanks for the info on IR and Pixel-based detection about reflecting with glass. Haven't heard of Pixel-based before, I'll have to do a bit of research.

    I have to say I was actually very impressed with how easy to set up was compared to trying the cheap way at harbor freight for 200 bucks with wires running everywhere was a disaster I had to return and spend another $150 for the three camera Arlo the only beef I got with them after your trial runs out you got to pay monthly or basically your cameras are only good for life they won't record nothing so if a thief comes and bust your window you can't even tell who it is if you're not watching it live without the subscription other than that very pleased

    To answer one drawback, the hub does the video buffering/handles the uploads, coordinates the triggering of other cameras to record if motion on a different camera, and provides the microsd slot if you want local copies of the video vs going to the cloud. The app can query the hub for images if set to local mode with microsd storage.

      Guys... are you serious ? You seem disappointed that the CVR function requires your Arlo to be plugged but this is just common sense. What did you expect... continuous recording while charging the battery 2 times a year ?
      This is a technology that just doesn't exist and has nothing to do with Arlo. The fact is that if you want continuous recording it needs to be wired and not only with Arlo but with all security systems on the market to this day.

    Thank you! Yeah, CVR is too demanding and obviously continuous recording requires a camera to be plugged into an electrical outlet. Just like any other photo/video camera. When I used my Nikon mirrorless camera to record my car videos for my channel I had to plug it into an outlet otherwise it would kill the battery very quickly. PS: I'd like to get a security camera that offers some sort of Rapid Recap just like Lorex offered few years ago. This technology was made by Briefcam. I checked Arlo, Blink and it seems they don't offer anything similar to Rapid Recap.

    • @ITechedUp

      I didn't know about rapid recap. I read up on it, interesting! I guess Arlo's solution is to review the footage of only when movement took place. Unless it's CVR, not sure if it tells you where movement is or you have to go through the whole footage.

    Arlo stock is barely $6/share. They still fail miserably and continue to give the same old canned response from bad reviews on Google play. Horrible connection issues, super bad bad battery life, never catches the moment..just the shadow. I loved the concept bc you can put them anywhere, but they still needed to be installed quite close to modem, 20 ft or less. Just not worth the money since you can buy professional 4-8k rotating cameras for about same price, which I opted for in the end.

So seems the Arlo 4 with the base station is where I might be going. With the current Arlo system I have and seems with the 4, I won’t need to pay for a subscription. The biggest drawback to the Arlo cameras that use the XL batteries is that you can’t buy a separate charger. They can only be charged in the camera housing with Arlo’s (very) proprietary charging cable. My batteries run out in about a week, and I’ve had to use one of the cameras exclusively for charging batteries.

      That is easily resolved with a Weller soldering gun and some wire, if Arlo won't provide. I'm getting corrosion internally on all my outside ones that is preventing charging. I've thought that could be resolved by a drill and some spare USB cable. I'm sure that voids the warranty, but , in my case I have to go on the roof with a ladder, so it's becoming more of a feasible idea...

    I'm getting very sick of Arlo I've been using their camera since the first one came out it seems they have more problems than they ever had before I think it's just time to get rid of it. I can't even begin to explain all the problems and trust me I know how to use this system.

    I have to agree, the arlo ultra 2 is pure crap! They manage to fail when you need them the most! I had my car broken into one night, when I looked at the footage there was NOTHING! Don't waste your money! I have Ultra 2s, 2 Essential Indoor and a wired doorbell cam for sale! Arlo is pure junk!

    You are much smarted than me.. I think Arlo is overpriced and has terrible customer service. I would return the four Arlo Pro 4 cameras I bought through their website but they will not allow it. the Cameras quit working randomly. I had to delete and reinstall the cameras constantly. Don’t buy this System.

    It's actually a terrible product that offers zero customer support domestically. If you love chatting with foreign language reps and getting nowhere, then this camera is for you. The camera itself is terribly designed. If it gets disconnected to the network, such as when you restart your router/modem, then it cannot automatically reconnect. Instead, you have to physically go to the camera and take it down, take the battery out, and push buttons to get it working again. If that wasn't bad enough, there's no notification when the camera goes offline or randomly disconnects from your wifi. So you can go about your day, week, month, and if you don't periodically check your camera, you will not be protected. Seriously the definition of cheap chinese made products being sold in north america.

      Yeah I can imagine how that additional measure of security can be an inconvenience for easy and fast access. Unfortunately in tech we have to balance that. We want security but it sucks to have to enter a code or something from am email or text making it inconvenient.

What do you recommend that is wireless and connects directly to Wi-Fi with zero lag?

    I was looking for an outdoor camera to keep an eye on my dogs in the yard when I'm not home. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe Tried a different one that was absolutely terrible, so I got these instead. They work perfectly! With 3 of these cameras I can see every corner of the yard, and they were very easy to set up. The best part is I only get the footage I want to see, not hours of videos of the bird feeder swaying in the breeze.
