    Well, yes (since you asked) I am cutting my own hair because, after decades of trying to get hair stylists to give me what I asked for instead of slipping into their rhythmic zen trance and doing what's easiest for them (which usually means cutting off 4 inches after I specifically said I wanted to keep my hair as long as possible) , I've found I'm much happier -- and actually look better -- snipping away at my locks by myself. I've received more compliments since I started cutting my own hair than I ever did when a pricey professional styled it.

    I'm glad you have this channel. I show these to my daughter. We cut each other's hair to save money. Professionals cringe to hear this, but when we have money to spoil ourselves at a salon they compliment us on how little they need to correct us. You're a great teacher!

      Do you! There are plenty of non diy-ers for the pros to cut.

    • @Jesser1975
      @Jesser1975 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Rainbo, The reason pros cringe is because most diy-ers don’t bother to look up tutorials made by actual pros before they ruin their hair. Roughly half of the ones who actually do don't properly follow instructions. Pros have to correct a lot of screw ups from said souls. Brad Mondo’s channel has a series called Hairdresser Reacts. He reacts to diy tutorials on hair by ameteurs that go badly. They have every reason to cringe. I don't blame them.

      @@TheSalonGuy, you would not believe how many bad haircuts I get from professionals. I watch your videos so I can figure out why I keep getting bad cuts and what I can tell stylists so that I won’t get bad cuts. Nevertheless, yesterday I got an awful one. I told the salon owner, and she said I have difficult hair because it’s curly and fine and lacks weight and has different curl patterns throughout. She was nice and didn’t charge me for the awful haircut her employee gave me. I went back to her today and asked her to fix the choppy layers for me, and she fixed it a little, but it’s still way too layered for me and too short in certain areas. The man who cut it really messed up even though I specifically told him what I wanted and that I didn’t want short choppy layers.

    I am an old stylist from the late 80's and 90's. I still gravitate to this field and it's still interesting to me. I like to work with wigs as well. elaborate updo's involving more than 1 wig. Wig stacking, for drag. It's all interesting and creative.

    I'm watching this again to get up the nerve to try to blend the bottom to the bottom of the mushroom poof. I need prayer. Oh, a stylist in town offered to fix it for me for $54. No, I've spent enough on this mess. Anyway, thanks for not commenting that I was a loser or anything like that. I appreciate it. As someone that was a teacher for 20 years, I have to tell you that you're a natural.

    Hi. Thanks for showing your videos. I am having horrible luck with finding a hair stylist that will cut my hair the way I ask them to. I show them pictures of me with the hairstyle I like and I still don't get it done that way. My hair stylists in Connecticut since I was about 15 years old, so about forty years ago, called it the Farrah fawcett look, or feathered back hair, and they didn't mention layers too often. I say all these things to the hairdressers here in FL these days and no one knows what I'm talking about; not the younger or older stylists.. Any suggestions to get my hair stylist to cut my hair so that it will featherback the right way? They leave it too long up on top so it just hangs down and it never feathers back to the back of my head. I want it like a ducktail.. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 1:15

    I cut my own hair for 2 reasons: 1st I have to fix a bad cut from a “trained stylist” 2nd these “trained stylists” seem to never actually hear what I wanted them to do with my hair, and I’m certain none of them that I’ve tried ever watch videos like yours. It seems there’s way too much ego involved with the industry. Maybe I’ll find someone someday that will listen to me, and cut my naturally wavy, thick hair in layers that ARE blended, and even on both sides. I’ve yet to find one that actually sections my hair to cut, and if I try to suggest a video like yours, they get all in their defenses. Therefore, I don’t really care how much money or time they put in. If they did, it doesn’t frikin show.

    This hair cut is what I ASKED for and didn't get. I got the WORST haircut of my life, and I'm 58, a week before Thanksgiving, so I went through the whole holiday season with just awful hair. I'm scared to have anyone else cut it. My hair was all one length, middle of the back, and now it is the most unbelievable mess. I should have known when she refused to section my hair that it was going to be bad. I'm here because I have a mushroom poof on m y head now with four inches of hair at the bottom that has nothing to do with the top part. If I had a way of showing you a pic, I'd post it here.

    I have naturally curly hair, I recently had my hair cut at my hairdressers. At the beginning we agreed that she just do a trim of a couple of cms as I hadn’t decided on a new style. I showed her a few pics of what I had in mind and the styles all had blended layers. After she had done the trim she told me that she had put a layer in (way up near the top of my head). I have shoulder length hair curly and well below my shoulders length straight. I was just shocked so said nothing. She blow dried my hair curly so I couldn’t really see the layer. Since then I have had hair falling in my eyes and it is just weird. I often say blended layers to hairdressers and they look at me blankly. How else can I describe this? I’m so upset it will probably take a year for that layer to grow down. 😢

    I'm just an ordinary guy who cut my own hair, tbh I didn't find a fit barbershop for myself that's why I did it on my own, most of them went "job as reference" and ended cut my hair too much, I didn't like it, so I improvised. Idc with how good it is in techniques, as long as I am satisfied I am OK with my hair.

    OK. Great tip. But this question remains: After you cut the top layer guide, and after you already created the perimeter line, What elevation do you hold the sections up to cut and connect the back layers on ridiculously thick hair? It seems to kick out and look like crap. Is that just how it has to be if you are doing layering without disconnection?

    I find your videos extremely helpful, but only with the visuals. I dont know if you think your viewers wont understand terms, but it is very confusing to me when you say "right about here", "around here", "you take this area". Maybe if you did a video on sections of the head that you could link in future videos, but it makes it hard to follow unless im looking diligently at the area in the video. I really want to pay to subscribe but unless you do more detail oriented videos on parts of the head I cant. Please let me know if this is something you do on your paid account because this is the only page i find useful

      I’ve been a stylist over 20 years. I have over 1500 videos you can browse and many breaking down haircuts. I can’t teach someone how to cut hair as a beginner who isn’t a stylist as that’s why we go to school and invest thousands of dollars into getting our licenses plus investing in ongoing education. This is why many of my videos are geared towards stylists but I have dozens upon dozens of videos anyone can follow along with. Watch my videos on haircutting. Browse my older videos.

    I have been getting this long-medium exact shag hair cut in Las Vegas since 1995. I can’t find NO ONE here in California to cut my hair like this way since I moved here in 2000. They would cut it in the other direction which would cause my hair looking like a full round Bob haircut!! It’s awful! I have to drive 3 hours one way to Vegas every 2 1/2 months to get my haircut and highlights. Don’t get me started on highlights!!! These high-end hair stylists here would overlap the hair color and as a result my hair started falling out! They’ve claimed to have gone to the best schools. They charge over $700+ for half of head of highlights and trim. Way overpriced for inexperienced stylists!

    I love you as a hair stylist, but there is a way for a person to layer there own hair, cause I did it and it came out perfect....I've been to different stylists and they get scissor happy, and never cut my hair how I want it, shame, wish they were all like you...but they are not.I have long hair and they all want to chop it off. Sad but true.

      As a pro my 1" is always the same as the client's 1"A thorough consultation keeps that from being an issue. We'remot "scissor happy." We want oir clients happy. Sone people are convinced they are as goid or bettwr than a pro. I say "Hood for you." But as a pro I don't cut my own hair. The salon experience is all.part of it. I say yo my stylist," Yes...massage my scalp! Yes! YOU do rje round brush blow out! Love it!"
