How God of War Made Kratos Dad Work

Having recently finished God of War 2018, I take a deeper look into a 'bad man, good father' dilemma, this time starring Kratos and Atreus. I started in my Arcane Respects Fathers and Point of No Return with Silco and Marcus. How does God of War brilliantly balance Kratos's flawed nature and history in his effort to help steer his legacy through Atreus right?
