If that pans out and Tork/Greene play to their potential with the AL central being bad the tigers might be able to win 70 games this season

    Mariners regressing? Mitch Haniger was injured all season last year so Teoscar Hernandez is a huge upgrade at RF. We get a full season of Luis Castillo and a more experienced Gilbert/Kirby. Adam Frazier wasn’t very good for us last year either so getting Kolten Wong is a considerable upgrade. Also Julio is only going to get better. I believe a few Astros players also said that they were pretty confident that whoever won the series between the Mariners and the Astros was going to win the whole thing which is major props from a division rival.

      It's realistic. The Dodgers in a full 162 game season haven't done much in the playoffs, especially when you consider the fact they've been one of, if not the best, regular season teams every year for a while now. Sorry to say, but the Dodgers actually need to prove themselves as contenders. Just having a good roster and great regular seasons just to get spanked in the playoffs early doesn't make you an actual contender.

    May be biased here, but having the Blue Jays above the Mariners doesn't make sense. The M's took the Jays to the wood shed in the playoffs and the season series wasn't all that close either. Plus, they likely have a top 5 rotation in baseball. Same old song and dance with the Jays year in and year out lol

    • @ryangale3757
      @ryangale3757 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with the Blue Jays is that they are perennial underperformers; every year for the past 3 years, they on paper have seemed like major contenders, but they never end up living up to those expectations. They did play better after Schneider took over for Montoyo, but then they got their butts kicked in the playoffs again, so until I see them actually have a season up to their expectations, I can't expect too much out of them.

    If the Brewers actually bring up Turang and Frelick, they could be a very good team, I think it mostly relies on if they actually bring up their prospects and how they play, and Yelich has been looking really good since they put him into the leadoff spot last year, I feel like they're one or two pieces away from actually being very good.

    The Braves have a DH with alternate catching options. If Ozuna keeps hitting then he's a DH as well. At shortstop it's not really difficult to replace Dansby Swanson to be honest. I love Swansons defense but at the plate he still consistently swings at balls a foot off the plate for long periods of time and then gets on a hot streak before taking swings like a little league player again. Replacing Freeman was a big deal and the Braves did so and became better. Swanson isn't anywhere near the player of Freeman.

      @Aaron Rogers exactly and the defense is one of the easiest things to replace in the game. With the defense of the Braves infield consisting of Austin Riley, Ozzie Albies, & Matt Olson it's an even easier replacement to make. The Braves have more flexibility than most when it comes to finding their idea of a perfect replacement for anyone they let go.

      @Aaron Rogers physically he's replaced Freeman indeed though. I liked the move then and still do. Olson is just a better fit than Freeman because of age, grew up a Braves fan, & he's better in several areas than Freeman. Not a knock on Freeman but I prefer Olson's power and defense personally. The Braves front office made the right call.

    Great list!
    Padres, I don't trust Snell and Yu, they can be give you 8 shut out innings any given day, but there's just as high a chance they give up 5 runs in 4 innings. Plus the rotation isn't complete, they're trying to make relievers into starters just to fill out a top 5. I really do trust the dodgers rotation to carry them past the padres, even if they're not elite. SS, 3B and LF is a concern, but the rest of the lineup is trustworthy to hold their own, and the pitching staff can carry it the rest of the way.
    I know the angels do this every year, but this is the first time that the pitching staff is ready. Normally we're just getting hype over the offense. Now they have potentially one of the best young rotations in the game and that makes them very scary. Overall their team is just as complete as the mariners, and they have more fire power on offense. If you do a position by position comparison with the angels and astros, the angels are almost identical, just as strong on top, just as deep. Seattle does not hold up nearly as well when compared to the astros. Seattle may have a higher floor, but they can't take down the astros. As for the angels, it's a new year, a new book, this is the first time they've had a healthy staff, they have a significantly higher ceiling. And preseason just looking at them on paper, you can't ignore that they're a mile in front of Seattle.
    I would also feel comfortable putting Boston in not awful, Sale, and Whitlock are the only starters who look competitive, Paxton, Kluber, and Pivetta are just there to eat innings. Kenley isn't good, just ask braves and dodgers fans. Turner isn't as good as JD in the lineup. Hernandez, Duvall, and Verdugo are just borderline league average guys, and as much as I love Yoshida and I drafted him in fantasy, reports are not even Yoshida's camp thought he'd get an offer as big as the one the Red Sox gave, so I don't think he picks up Xanders production level.
    I don't disagree with what you said about Giants and DBacks, but I think DBacks finish the year higher in the standings, I would probably push SF down a tier because of the mid offense.

    The Orioles certainly have had most everything go right with them this year, with just 25 games to go and being 35 games above 500, placing them as a bonfire pennant contender that can compete with the elite tier (Braves, Dodgers, Rays, Mariners IMO). The Bautista injury puts a big question mark on an October appearance. Boston is one of the few "Maybe?" teams that basically has lived up to their expectations, and they remain on the fringe of Wild Card contention. Miami is probably also in that same "Maybe?" tier, and it wouldn't shock me if they sneak in just like the NBA and NHL teams did last spring. I'd also place the D-Backs in that "Maybe?" tier as well. Sure, the Padres and Yankees have been big busts, but I'd place them in that same tier, which really should be full of teams around .500. The Padres are 5th in run differential in the NL, and the Yankees have big spoiler potential that just happens to play in a hot division that sadly was gagged with numerous injuries, with a season-ending concussion to Rizzo being the latest. They recently swept the Astros in Houston, so they definitely still can beat you on any given day.

      Glad to see an honest Pads fan. Did the Dodgers get "worse" this off-season and the Pads better? Yes. But Marc is forgetting the Dodgers won 111 games and the division by 22 games last year. That gap doesn't magically dissappear because Trea Turner leaves. We replaced JT with JD, actually have a deeper and more reliable rotation this year, not relying on fragile guys like Heaney and company, Outman in all likelihood will get the bulk of CF starts and could very well be better than Bellinger for $18M less. Oh and our bullpen is still mostly intact. And we have insane depth through the 40 man roster and going into our Minor League system.
      He's right, on paper the Padres, at least their lineup, is still better. But they lack depth if one of their big names goes down or underperforms. Their rotation certainly isn't better IMO.

JD Martinez replaces JT at DH and likely hits much better. Outman, and whoever else fills in at CF, likely outperforms Belli. Syndegaard and May replace Heaney and Anderson. Pepiot has #3 upside, and is showing it this Spring. Our bullpen remained intact. Muncy looked like old Muncy in the second half after getting g healthy.
