I find it helpful to listen to some of KZ’s crazier songs (Royals may be her craziest!) a 2nd (& a 3rd) time, because she changes the song So So much. To me, that’s a testament to her talent…who else can add jazz/rock/rap/reggae to a song AND be so captivating on stage!
This song isn’t for everyone but she still SLAYED it.

Good ear to hear the similarities between KZ and Jessie J. There's a video from The Singer showing KZ and Jessie J meeting for the first time. After KZ finished fangirling and could start breathing again, she said that Jessie J had been one of her big influences and was a large part of who she is as a singer. As the only two English speaking contestants, they quickly became friends. In the final episode of that season, Jessie J had KZ and a Chinese singer Coco Lee (a previous The Singer winner) help her sing Bang Bang and it went really well.
You should definitely react to more of KZ's performance from the Singer. Say something, hurts you never knew, and anak are all brilliant for vocals and emotion plus rolling in the deep for more of her cover genius. Jessie J's performances on the Singer were all of good ballad songs and strong vocals, so you should definitely check them out as well. Jessie is actually one of KZ's musical inspirations so that's why you hear some of her style influence. Both a great artists and underrated in their fields. Glad you got to hear her sing!
KZ is an amazingly talented artist and performer. A tiny powerhouse. But, this is far from my favorite performance. Any other performance from her on Singer 2018 would be better. She also has some originals and collaborations that are great. And, she almost never looks the same from one performance to another. She's an original in herself. Even her covers are actually originals.

KZ's elimination was a hometown decision, not because of her rendition. When you see the performances of the other contestants, then you will get a clearer picture. Yesterday, she signed her 3rd international album, wasnt that a cosmic vindication? Be that as it may, KZ was the most viewed per performance in that contest surpassing even JJ.
Try her cover of SAY SOMETHING for a slow song. She beat JJay in a round covering ROLLING IN THE DEEP by Adele. So much best. I saw your facial expressions which contrast your negative comments on some parts, being a singer yourself I could understand it. But KZ is my World Best! She now have a global entry titled "11:59", I do not subscribe to yours.

She didn't win, but... her competition was Jessie J. And others of course, but yes, Jessie J won. And if you think you know Jessie Js talent level, if you've never seen her performances on this show... you don't. Seek out Jessie's Singer 2018 performances of Purple Rain, My Heart Will Go On, and I Have Nothing. You will come out of it with a totally new understanding of her. Jessie doesn't sing the way you'd expect from her own records/videos.
Also, KZs performances of Rolling in the Deep and See You Again on the show as well. Yes, she uses tricks, but they're clever. I predict you'll HATE the beginning of her Rolling in the Deep with a passion, then turn around on it by the end of the performance.

@@maggiereneemusic I do not know if anyone answered your question about the sign and the show. This is the same show a different year. Dimash was in 2017. This is the 2018 edition won by Jessie J.. I happen to prefer short people winning something. As I topped out at 5'4"ish. The things I loved to do, I was too small to do past elementary school. I started High School at 4'9" tall. Being it was the 60's and since I couldn't be high in height, I became an expert at being hi in the 60's nomenclature. Anything that qualified me on size I either had absolutely no talent for, or I hated it. I wanted to be a singer or a Tour Golf Professional. I wasn't big enough to play that level of golf and I have no talent for music except I can listen to it real well but nobody is going to pay me to do that either. So I always root for the little guy if they have a chance. I got my ramble on today so I'll beg off while I'm behind.
Since you dont like some part of it...You should react to her performance Say Something(same competition). You actually hear her beautiful voice on that performance(Say Something). I guarantee, youll gonna enjoy it. Legit👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Maybe you'll gonna cry👌🏻 Love your reaction anyway, as always.

She wasn't trying to sound like Lorde so there's no point in comparing her singing to the way Lorde sings Royals. I mean what's the point in doing a cover if all you're gonna do is to echo it exactly the way the original artist sang it? You can't say you "owned" the cover performance if you didn't turn it into your OWN version. Opera artists have this weakness of singing a piece exactly the way other people sing it. You can't apply that classical mindset to modern music.
If KZ don’t put such a style you don’t like she maybe sounds like a copy cat tumbling voice hardly to do in a competition that’s why she sounds you don’t like there’s a part you don’t like

Please check out the other songs from the competition, especially "Say Something" and "Rolling in the Deep". To be honest, I was most impressed when she sang a mash up of three emotional songs in Chinese "The Hurts You Never Knew". The fact that she doesn't speak Mandarin (and neither do I) yet she left me a little choked up is a testament to her ability to use music to evoke emotion (similar to "Say Something"). More recently she put out an excellent song "Imposible" which is catchy as anything, though it's in Tagalog. She also just recently came out with a single "11:59".

yeah i totally get where you are coming from. A lot of times in our choral vocal lessons, our vocal trainer always want us to elongate or maximize the vowel sounds on each phrases and not to get to the consonant abruptly. But i think what kz is doing here is a total stylistic choice. if you watch her other performances, she can definitely lean on to those vowel sounds. but here she sort of chooses to get to the consonants to make it sound different,

Jessie J = idol of KZ, Jessie J was the reason KZ keeps singing, when she thaught stopping with singing, when she lost her voice during an operation on her voice.But Jessie J won the whole contest.
#1, you are an opera singer. #2, when you critique, you listen well and not sing with the artist.
Surely someone mentioned it, but KZ's best lyrical in this competition was her stripped down version of "Say Something" with just a guitar accompanying.

this was her last performance in the competition so i guess it may have had factored on her loosing in the competition because of this song so yeah probably youre right if basing it in a singing competition perspective.
