That's a badass air hammer. I literally just did Dodge 1500 front uppers and lowers. Had to grind the heads with an "x" pattern for my air hammer to cut through the rivet. Had to hammer the rivets out too. Air hammer didn't cut it. Great video!
wow! Quick removal man, you sure show those rivets not to mess with you. I also have to change the ball joint in my car but I came across rivets and I though that I could use the grinder but than pull myself from that idea and decided to look for a better idea or approach on how to do it faster on you tube and found your video. Yeap! WAAYY faster... Thanks for the tip.
1. I got the head of the rivets off, but it took me 30 minutes for each rivet.2. Maybe it's my harbor freight air hammer, or my air compressor is not putting out enough air?3. I had to sharpen the chisel often.(When sharpening, don't heat up the chisel, it will lose its temper.)4. I had to drill at least 80% down, and then used a 3/8" round chisel to hammer it out, with a huge hammer.5. So far, I have one out. 6. The engineer who decided to save a few pennies labor with rivets should be sent to Siberia. No, that place is too nice. I honestly can't figure out where I would send the sadistc b--7. If I was to do over, I would have bought the whole control arm--if available?8. If you grind off the head with a grinder, make sure you know where the holes are. I am guesstimating.
I am wondering if the air tool I am using is big enough?? The process is taking to long just to remove to rivet heads and the punch isn't driving through the rivets any ideas??

Yeah you definitely need a good Air Hammer. But man it sure makes life easy when you have the right tools for the job.Good luck
You can also drill out the rivets to weaken them and try it again with the chisel.

I tried to use the harbor freight air hammer on ball joints rivets too. You're right, it doesn't work at all.
I dont use harbor freight but I do jack the air up to at least a constant 150.
I just removed my rivets with a step bit and my 1/4" impact driver... It helps to have 3 bits to rotate them so they don't overheat...
damn I'm impressed,I have to do mine and I'm dreading it.you made a tough job look easy. Thanks for sharing :):):)
What are the specs on that air hammer or what model of ingersoll air hammer you have????
that is the fartiest sounding air hammer I have ever heard
I think so. I also have a monster Chicago Pneumatic that works well
Yeah you need a good air hammer..I'm using a Ingersol rand with a freshly sharpened chisel.
Well went to horror fate, oh I mean Harbor Freight and bought one of those air hammers and it wouldn't even cut hot butter. Well on to the next video!
Be nice to your turn plates!

MAN you made that look easy. lol
I tried to do that with my air hammer, didnt have much luck.maybe mine doesn't have enough power.
