PT was so prescient. He knew what was coming, without knowing. Watching him bring Lifehouse to fruition in 2000 was wonderful. I remember the PT and Eelpie websites being such exciting places to be back then (1999-2000). Actual interactive contact with Pete, new product, and all this before the internet was anything to the masses. Bowie and Townshend realised its potential SO early.
Through the 4 years from Tommy to Quadrophenia The Who were fuckin awesome, live they were the best by a fuckin mile,Townsend's writing and guitar ,Entwistle's drop dead bass playing,Moon's best Keith Moon style drumming and Daltrey's brilliant voice made them special but i didn't see them live till 81 so i never saw the original line up, it was still the best gig ever, then last year i saw Quadrophenia at last given the show it deserves,it was just perfect as i think it's the best thing Townsend has written and i think he know's it too.But having said all that "won't get fooled again" may be the best 9mins in rock history but having said that again perhaps "a quick one" on the rock n roll circus is better,FUCK IT! they are THE GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER. PEACE OUT:)
My former brother-in-law went to a couple of the Young Vic gigs and he said it just seemed like a rehearsal as the band would play a few numbers, stand around talking, play some more, go off-stage, come back, do three versions of the same song and then stand around talking again.
The music industry doesn't care for intelligently written music. The simpler the music with a basic heavy droning beat keeps 'em hypnotized and in control
I always go back and forth with Who's Next and Quadrophenia. There was plenty of material to make Who's Next a double album, some think that's bad because music is missing, some say it's a good thing, because only the best made it on to record. Me, I love both of those albums, they've both stood the test of time very well. There really is no wrong answer. BTW, the new Who album WHO is really strong, it's here on youtube for you to discover if you haven't already.
I hear the two bandied back and forth.. I'm on the Quadrophenia side but if someone says "Who's Next" I say, "yep" and if they say "Quadrophenia" I say "yep"
Isn't Lifehouse about the band and the audience merging into one entity through the power of music? And if you hit that ONE note, hey, fucking Nirvana!
When you think about it, Lifehouse was about this ONE Note that affects or transforms people, or at least that's my take on it. And Pure and Easy was the start of that. So, yeah, it should've led off the album. That way, The Song Is Over could've ended Who's Next properly with the Pure and Easy reprise, bringing the album full circle.
today's young rock bands in their 20's and early 30's as The Who were around this time, are a corporate mechanism that's unfortunately unstoppable, but also, unimaginative, bland, generic, with no creativity, artistry, and not memorable in the least ...who at this day and age can write an album or albums like this ? absolutely fucking no one., that's who....
Pete’s concept is basically what Matrix, Strange Days, Surrogates and Ready Player One explore. Definitely ahead of its time.
funny thing, from :30 to 1:00 pete pretty much summed up myspace, facebook, twitter and yes, even youtube
0:21 Pete describing our social media dominated lives, decades before it happened.
Such a beautiful rendition of Pure And Easy performed by Pete!

A Quick One, oh my what a beautiful piece Pete made. Then throw Sparks in between, and it's just unimaginable.
Well Pete you effectively predicted the future in a minute describing Life House
Excellent observation and Pete has commented on this fact that he predicted the coming of the internet.
Just watch the first 60 seconds. Kinda prescient, innit? Bear in mind, he had this concept in 1971. And here we are. Huh...
The inspiration for Rush 2112.

The fact that Pure and Easy didn't make the final cut shows just how strong the songs were. I mean Pure and Easy an outtake? WTF, yeah rarified air.
Pete gave up on big ideas 💡 after the difficult delivery of Quadrophenia...
The music industry doesn't care for intelligently written music. The simpler the music with a basic heavy droning beat keeps 'em hypnotized and in control
He couldn't be arsed anymore
He said himself that he didn’t have the arrogance or the balls to do it again.
Quadrophenia is EASILY the best album by the Who.
maybe .. but also "live and leeds" is a big contender..

9:00 “Hello Glynnnis!” Johnny Lennon
The audio in this video is distorted.

Chris Stamp looks good
How the fuck was Pure & Easy NOT on Whos Next, a bloody mystery?

I love both but, Quadrophenia and Who by Numbers are my Faves so there ! LOL
I just listened to Slip Kid, man is that a great song or what.
Pete's greatest album title: All the best cowboys have Chinese eyes!
So Pete read Fahrenheit 451 then…
Hit the nail on the head there mate.
Blaming NY for their drug problems. Love it.
@Dannymusic1999 not that i know of. he was pretty clean. he talked about how he really didn't care for drugs. he tripped on acid once and he hated it
The last thing Pete needed was the intensive psychological introspection of acid, given his history.
@chriskoob im deleting my facebook after watching him talk about that
Is it just me or is "Pure and Easy" a bit like "The Dirty Jobs"?
don't know but frank zappa got there first with "lumpy gravy"..

yea
BSC
Pete, I love ya....but what the hell are you talking about?
That's his blessing and his curse, more or less. Right half brain, don'tcha know.....
It sucks. It just is not good music. Pete, you're cluttering up the earth with noise.
now you could say that about paul McCartney.. but that is an outlandish statement about Townsend ??!
🤔 You must be a simplton then...
