Thank you so much! Great tutorial I was able to learn to bunny hop in about 30 minutes. And a couple of days later I found a small kicker on a trail. After a few slow approaches I successfully jumped my bike! What a blast! Thanks again.
its not the wheel size it is just bad bike setup, technique or both . Check your rebound if it is a dual suspension bike, I was riding with a would cup downhiller a couple of months ago and I was quite hesitant and not fully in control on the bigger jumps, he put a couple of extra clicks on my rebound and the I was comfortably pumping them as hard as possible and trying to huck everything. I didn't realise how big a difference a slightly slower rebound seed makes to your sense of control off jumps
And that is because he has a light weight bike with great suspension so it is easy for him to go down on his suspension and then pop up easily. He also has more speed than u.
Thanks so much Blake, always seems like you genuinely care about ppl learning. I used to jump all the time, now on mtb I keep either going backwards or sideways too much.
Just got back into mountain biking learning the ropes again. Cleared my first large table top this morning confidently got over my fear of crashing thank you Blake this tutorial really helped. Onto the doubles now.!!!!
I've needed 41 years to learn to PROPERLY jump. Today I've applied your advices in the skatepark and my jumps were 50% higher and longer with less effort and less entry speed!! Thank you so much! The secret was in the leg pumping in the ramp... 😉
Thanks a lot for posting, mate! as a 50 something-year-old mountain biker of over 30 years in the saddle, I'm just getting into freeride/trail and would love to be able to handle some small air. Really great, informative 'real technique' tutorial and demos which give confidence! As you get older, the fear can take over (self employed - can't afford time off work!). Can't wait to get out there and try these 'new' skills! Cheers, bud!
I don't get it, 17 dislikes on a good video..? I realize there are the trolls out there to stir the pot, but geez, the video isn't but a bit over a 1/2 old. I find all of GMBN's videos to be a big help, even when Blake doers them..J/K..Blake, nice work.
Im loving hitting gap jumps in my Planet X jack flash dirt jumper Just learning how to get more pop and speed to prevent nosediving so I can move onto some bigger jumps
awesome vid, i am gonna try this on my specialized hotrock 24 hardtail! i have been trying to bunny hop for ages but my front wheel keeps on falling back down! thx guys!
It makes me smile!!! I remember when I was in my university days, you like my mechanical engineering 'very cool professor" the way you teach demonstrate and talk it's funny but, comes from the heart. I'm in my 50's beginner in mountain biking 'guess very late but, You guys from GMBN youtube videos help give us encouragement determinations to do something never been done before. "you guys are "AMAZING" THANK YOU VERY MUCH "BRAVOOOOO!!!! from: JS 'PADYAK" KETTERING MTB
Good tip that helped me learn bunny hopping, record yourself and view it back so you can see exactly where you went wrong and how much height your getting
Hands down the best tutorial on jumping, and I watched a ton of them recently. It made me work on my bunnyhop, and my jumping technique improved a lot. Please keep posting, Blake👍🏻
Behnam Khajemiraki you do realize the bike is much smaller and there's no point in getting that low on such a small bike. it's the same given motion just not as extreme
Exactly on small bikes like Dirt Jump, BMX etc it's much easier to get a big jump that's why there are different techniques on different sizes of bikes
i used to be able to bunny hop over recycling bin long ways up (30 years ago) .getting in to mountain biking and cant believe how crappy my hop has become . getting 6 inches at most
I love your videos as I do not like using clip-ins despite using a hardtail, there's one part on my local track with a small drop that goes down a hill then into a small uphill ramp and i get air really well without effort, however a while ago i landed sideways and hurt pretty bad so i lost confidence and want to learn actual proper techniques for when i do get air for now on, i Ride a hard tail :)
To jump a bike, get in a slightly bent attack position, get some speed, relax and hit the jump. Thats how you should learn to jump. This is more how to pop a jump and is a good way for scared, tense riders to end up with unbalanced take offs. That leads to crashing.
Nice video this is really helping on my 1.3 metre jump and like 5 metres to get up it and its steep instead of 10cm now it's more like 60 cm thanks since I'm only 12 that more the reason it's that high because my friends are getting a metre and there older than me
I think it feels more like after pushing the bike in a manual and standing up the bike is like a pogo stick with mostly my foot that is at the back (right foot) and then driving the bike forward with your arms and because the back wheel follows the initial pop to manual. by popping the bars forward and bending your knees that pogo like thing hapens. the hight of the jump kinda depends on how high your front wheel goes
Aight guys I need help, I can pop the front off the ground but can't pull it into the air, I don't understand how you can pull a bike with your feet ON TOP of the pedals, how is that possible, unless your feet are glued to the pedals or under the pedals, how can you pull the rear off?
Any chance for a tutorial on dirt jump style jumps with steep takeoffs and landings, been wondering how to do them for a while and how to guide myself in to the steep landings and get the speed correct.
I think there is a common oversight in every how to jump video and that is once you are in the air you have to pull up and forward on the bars to stick the bike to your feet (same reason as you scooping your feet over the pedals). Opposing forces. And I find this is a common mistake. It's actually the reason people do the pencil that Blake demonstrated. It's not because they are not loose and relaxed enough, it's just the first way they have found to keep their feet attached to the pedals. If they 'just relaxed' the bike would fall off their feet and they would crash.
I am having trouble with my back wheel landing first and I couldn't find a solution but I think this is exactly what I need. If you don't mind, can you explain in more detail on how I should move my arms and feet?

Tried this on my 29er...
just rolled over the ramp
Pienimusta 😂😂
I always end up nose heavy with my 29er, front fort and wheel just want to pull me face first into the dirt!

MultiAlxndr hmm? max on the rebound or how many clicks, I'm 190lbs
Pienimusta more speed
Lol he makes it look like his bike weighs nothing- when I try it my bike feels like it weighs 1000000 lbs
He has gained enough speed to do it
@@ghostriderzk6-18 yes you need speed uf you dont have enough speed you will undershoot it and nosedive
Because his speed and his bike will be very light
Yea it takes no work as long as you get enough speed
And that is because he has a light weight bike with great suspension so it is easy for him to go down on his suspension and then pop up easily. He also has more speed than u.

I can jump by bike and hit about 4ft of air and I watched this to help perfect my jumps. Great vid man😎😎
My bike broke in half
:)
U guys have made me sooo much better and confident rider at 42 yrs old im doing things I didn't do at 21.. ty all.😁😁😁👍
Thanks for this vid. Watched tons of them, but your simple 3p technique made me so self-confident...now I know where to tune my hop... Thanks man!!
Do a video on the process of making GMBN videos! All the way from doing the script to shooting and editing. We want to know more about your team!
Well, next time I take my walmart “mountain” bike on a trail, i’ll try to get some air instead of just rolling over the jump.
😬 don’t snap it
Allergic to vegans what, my bones or the bike?
Luke Thomas the bike
This is extremely helpful. Just need to find a jump near me 😑
Try to build one!
Great stuff brotha. What really stuck out to me was "level the bike out" No nose dives. Thanks for the tips!
great video guys I'm struggling with the manual and I have a hardtail
Alexander Macleod // don't worry it's easier on a hardtail just lean backwards but not too low and keep a finger on your rear break
Alexander Macleod try it on grass to learn it makes falling off the rear easier because it doesn't hurt
I also had the same problem but Neil did a video a while back where he shows how to make an L shape with your hips which really helped me
Nicholas Aref yea but I can't seem to go far back enough
clive ramsbotty talking of the L shape do you actually have to pretty much sit on the rear wheel to get the front wheel enough
Brilliant video thanks! Im 39 n wanting to learn how to jump correctly this one by far is the best.! Would love lessons. Keep the vids coming 😎😊😎🤘🏻

gtflyer 71 now!

Because there is an alternate views on how to do this and some may believe what is taught isn't what is happening.
Thank you for this 💪❤️
Im loving hitting gap jumps in my Planet X jack flash dirt jumper
Just learning how to get more pop and speed to prevent nosediving so I can move onto some bigger jumps
Today i just jumped off my pedals... i fell a nice one, but luckily enough no serious problems... So, get back to that jump tomorrow!!
awesome vid, i am gonna try this on my specialized hotrock 24 hardtail! i have been trying to bunny hop for ages but my front wheel keeps on falling back down!
thx guys!
Awesome! that was my old bike it was great
I used to have that bike but for road
Claire Unis me too I upgraded to the pitch
Blake demonstrating how to be a dainty lady @ 2:13.
Lol
I found this more funny than I should have😂😂
I just love how Blake try to explain deeper in how to jump but still he's not good to it. keep it up Blake! thanks!

As a noob riding a 2021 Scott genius 960 thankyou for such an informative video. Stay stoked!
Hey, I rode there last summer! It is a really nice spot Blake.
Will a rear suspension keep an old 240 pound gummer from cracking the crap out of a frame or am I ground bound until I can drop another 40 pounds?
a good rear float should help there
I find it quite challenging to go from a manual-type position to exploding straight up while pulling the bars to my hips. Any suggestions?
Good tip that helped me learn bunny hopping, record yourself and view it back so you can see exactly where you went wrong and how much height your getting
This was an amazing tutorial on jumping straight to it and sone handy tips! Made the whole process look so easy
so much caption contest potential! love the video, you rock man! next one might be a how to 180?
Coming soon!
Hands down the best tutorial on jumping, and I watched a ton of them recently. It made me work on my bunnyhop, and my jumping technique improved a lot. Please keep posting, Blake👍🏻
Great video Blake. Just got the bunny hop nailed, for me this is ideal progression for improving my jumps. Keep these coming!
Just got a mountain bike for christmas this helped alot
Neil and Scott explained to do manual at the beginning of bunny hops, but Blake showed us we only need to pop. Great job.
Behnam Khajemiraki you do realize the bike is much smaller and there's no point in getting that low on such a small bike. it's the same given motion just not as extreme
The Majestic Hawk I think you're right, cuz I'm riding a 27.5 XC hard tail bike.
Exactly on small bikes like Dirt Jump, BMX etc it's much easier to get a big jump that's why there are different techniques on different sizes of bikes
i used to be able to bunny hop over recycling bin long ways up (30 years ago) .getting in to mountain biking and cant believe how crappy my hop has become . getting 6 inches at most
Do I need the skinny jeans to pull this off?
Skinny jeans are optional...
Global Mountain Bike Network type of knee pads under there?
it definitely helps.
Absolutely mandetory
Tried it with normal pants, just doesnt work
This guys is a great teacher.
Just found sick dirt jumps near my house. FIRED UPPPPPPPPPP!
This helps soo much as i just had a massive crash after not knowing how to jump properly
this video is still the best dirt jumping tutorial ever..This is like my bible..Blake pls make a new one for us for year 2020- 2021..Thanks
Thanks guys! I love how detailed your videos are, truly helpful
He's cool :). I'm learning better every time (depends on "if I want") whipping (hardtail 26", street, fields)
This video helped me so much, thank you!
I love that you say it's super easy to learn on haha, i have a jump bike and still can't get it dialled properly
To jump a bike, get in a slightly bent attack position, get some speed, relax and hit the jump. Thats how you should learn to jump. This is more how to pop a jump and is a good way for scared, tense riders to end up with unbalanced take offs. That leads to crashing.
How much travel do you have on your dirt jump bike fork Blake??
blake. your the best! 2 years old but idc
When u do the "pop" in the bunny hop, do you pull up on the bike?
Daniel Greene ik it’s been three years but yeah, you do
Thank you for making this, before I did not know how to level the bike always landing back wheel first.
Thanks for watching Aleksi!
Great explanation. This feels like an ollie!
Nice position at 2:12 😂😂 bunny stile for a better bunny hop 😉
bunny rabbit
Thanks for this man.. instruction is so crysral clear..
Thank you so much teacher😊
Blake at 2:12 the trick to do a bunny hop is to become the bunny
Lovin' the bunny pose to demonstrate the bunny hop at 2:12 :D
Nice video this is really helping on my 1.3 metre jump and like 5 metres to get up it and its steep instead of 10cm now it's more like 60 cm thanks since I'm only 12 that more the reason it's that high because my friends are getting a metre and there older than me
you should make a video on how to whip small jumps like that one, I made a jump about that size and can't get my back end out
Thanks I'm going to have to practice.
I learned how to do it by myself very recently and I was super proud, but I’m curious to see how I can jump higher
Mikasa riding tips are great. we've really enjoyed the ones on how to bunny hop.
Awesomely explained!
Aight guys I need help, I can pop the front off the ground but can't pull it into the air, I don't understand how you can pull a bike with your feet ON TOP of the pedals, how is that possible, unless your feet are glued to the pedals or under the pedals, how can you pull the rear off?
Lol tiday is my second day of jumping so i shouldnt be the one to say this
Helped me learn a lot
Blake you are so cool and positive.Well done.
Great step by step, thanks; off to practice ✌🏻️
Good video now i just need to do that next 5 years and good
I think i have said this on every video since Blake has joined, because its true....Blake is the absolute man!
You're the man Blake
Any chance for a tutorial on dirt jump style jumps with steep takeoffs and landings, been wondering how to do them for a while and how to guide myself in to the steep landings and get the speed correct.
thanks im am keep trying on a full suspension and all my boy told me to tell ya i subscribed.. take care
Thanks
Thanks you so much Blake! This is good! For next, could you show how to whip step by step?
Wise words Blake. One day I too shall jump 😅
Thank you. Great tutorial. Much appreciated
Looks like I need to saw my seatpost to get it down into the seat tube for the correct geometry for a jump!
This is a great video and will be practicing. I really struggle with mastering the principles.
Thanks for the tips bro ! 👍👍👍 But is it possible to damage the rear wheel while learning bunny hops ?
It helped me a lot
Very well explained, thanks a lot, will start practicing this tomorrow!
Thank you !
Guys is the rockrider st 100 trail type a good first mountain bike and im starting to jump
we're are the jumps Blakes practicing on looks like a good place to learn on. excellent video by the way 👍
So it's better to land on the front wheel first on a HIGH jump?
can you do a video on how to jump really big jumps with a super steep lip and a ton of hang time?
Nice tuto, though could you give us more details on how to keep your foot on the pedals? How fo you make it with your hips?
I think there is a common oversight in every how to jump video and that is once you are in the air you have to pull up and forward on the bars to stick the bike to your feet (same reason as you scooping your feet over the pedals).
