POV Street Photography

- I tried some street photography in Manchester, taking photos from sunrise to sunset on the shortest day of the year... nearly.. I find that street photography is the best way to improve my photography skills quick, because there are potential subjects everywhere you look. If you feel like you need to get more familiar with your camera, head to your closest city for a day :)

I believe you have brought the narrative of self-doubt intro to an art form.
😂😂
The Hugh Grant of Photography
🤣
James in the street!!!! 💥💥
Yessssir! Thanks for the inspiration my friend :)
Pierre has inspired a whole genre of videos. I'm a big fan Pierre. I love your channel. I've learned so much. I hope you come to Las Vegas one day.
It's like Call of Duty, but much more chill.
😂😂
I was thinkin GTA, but James avoided the hookers...
Still a lot of shooting though
I was thinking something along the same. Maybe a change of battery would make it more like first person shooter.
"Why you taking photographs?"
"Because I fancy it, is that alright?"
You funny, funny man 🤣
Me to all the people who think I'm weird for taking photos of people
you can see when someone have talent and know their craft and even outside of your confort zone can do an amazing job,you absolute did just that sir! love your videos dude
Thanks so much mate, very kind 🙂
Don’t tell us again that you have no street photography skills. I like these photos 👍🏻
Thanks Stefan, glad you think so :)
true that
More of these good sir! Not even 3minutes in and im loving it!
Deal my friend! 🙂
I didn’t expect to learn things. 😳 I mean other vids have ‘told’ me things but I feel like this ‘showed’ me and helped me understand how to achieve looks I’ve only accomplished by accident in the past. 🤣
Awesome :)
"im not good at street photography"
*Looks at James photos*
*Looks at own photos*
Interesting definition of "not good" you have there.
don't compare too much homie
Haha. Cheers mate - it's all a process :)
You could have responded to the window cleaner "Because, sir, I am a TH-cam photography star!". You could have just said "Because I'm a *professional* photographer". But you didn't, you just stood up for the entitlement of all of us to (unobtrusively) point cameras at people simply because we like taking pictures. And for that, I salute you.
Dude I love pov photography videos. It makes it so much more relatable than sitting at a desk and presenting pictures :D
Thanks mate, great to hear :)
It was good to see a pro out of his normal element!
Loved this episode and the photos you took!
Please! Please! Do more like this episode!
All the best and Happy Holidays!
Thanks mate, and will do 🙂
MORE STREET PHOTOGRAPHY PLEASE
Deal :)
@@JamesPopsysPhoto great, always a charm working with you, Sir!
Dude I love this. There was a million things we all pass by everyday out there and you came back with some creative and interesting shots. LOVE IT
I was entertained! The sounds of the city were pretty neat also.
Awesome! 🙂
I just found this. I love seeing you composing and then seeing the result right away. Good technique.
An interesting perspective of my home town Manchester. When you live somewhere you take the surroundings for granted and no longer 'see'. Certainly liked that panning technique. Will give it a try. Felt a bit 'sea-sick' with all that 'bobbing' though. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Brian, me too with the editing, I'll have to think about how to stop that :)
@@JamesPopsysPhoto Roller blades :D
@@CarolyneMacMillan Now that would make an interesting POV!
4:46 "As usual in a scene like this...I'm waiting for a couple of birds....might be awhile." Wow...that rings true on so many levels! lmao!
Great vid as always. Love that you went for it and took a chance switching it up. 👍
hahaha! Touche :)
No real instruction - no long explanations of what you are doing (apart from the panning) or what settings you are using but what an incredibly informative visual narrative - awesomeness :) I learned so much about image capture and composition just from watching you shoot on your POV - fantastic James thank you so much - what a great (late) Christmas present :)
Amazing James, thank you again. It’s more beneficial to have you commentary explaining your thoughts and composition idea, than just simply taking shots or talking about settings. I’m absolutely new to photography and have learnt loads from you. 👍
Love the creativity of the slow shutter tram shot at 9:19
great to see the contrast in Manchester between the old and new architecture
It's a pretty funky city, even though it rains alot... 🙂
Solid job for someone who doesn’t tend to shoot streets. My favorite was the panning shot of the bike at 13:04 I think. 👍
Thanks mate :)
Ye of little faith! This expedition was a complete success by the looks of it. Wonderful shots and made me really think about finding interesting compositions. Thanks again James.
Awesome - Cheers Julian 🙂
I found with street photography taking the images is quite exciting but looking
at the photos later they seem so ordinary.
Me too, alot of the time 🙂
I think this can apply to a lot/most/all of genre. But it's worth it for the relatively rare occasions you get an image that truly fascinates you and one you're proud of and love.
David Ellinsworth. Agreed.
Happens to me all the time, the memory and story of getting the shot is always much more interesting lol
Thankyou James, regarding birds, in the good old days where I worked then, we had the use of a dark room and developed our own B&W prints. One of the guys, if he had a dust mark on the sky he just put a couple of wings on it/them with a fine felt tip..... instant bird....
out of all the youtube vloggers ive been watching the last few days you seem the most genuine. i feel like we're getting the real you and i appreciate that.
That was great, love the POV and commentary. Hard to pick a favourite, but I think I would have to go with the bike and bus at the end. There's motion and tension because he's looking in the wrong direction...but maybe it just resonates with me personally because I did exactly the same thing 25 years ago, smashed into the ass of a bus while cycling, and woke up in the hospital 😱🤕🤪
Ahhhhh! I hope someone got a photo of it..? :)
Goes up north.
"I'm waiting for a couple of birds"
*chuckles*
You underestimate yourself. Another great presentation. Love your down to earth style.
Thanks so much Iain :)
Thanks James! I have been struggling since the lockdown with my photography, most of which is outdoors. I really needed inspiration and this video has helped out... appreciate it!
When he says they will be bad, you know it’s going to be good. Love the content
I loved that you did this. It’d be awesome to see other landscape TH-camrs do the same.
Fun mix up on videos! Getting to know the city more is always worth the time. Thanks for making great content and infusing your humor into it. Always entertaining!
Thanks for watching 🙂
I really enjoyed this. Awesome video. Love the format. 👍
Cheers Tim 🙂
There is something with street photography that thrills me. The unexpected, unique situations, lights and so on. Well done and hope you will a peaceful Christmas, the first as married. 😊
Yet another great things I found out in this video:
1. Your walking style is very calming.
2. "Frame of duty" series should be done in every city
3. Lenses reloading, coffealth, secret levels. More action than mission impossible
Please more Videos like this... its very nice to watching and learning for me as a beginner
Great to hear :)
You are honestly one of the best photographers I follow on here.... keep it up.
Cheers Eric :)
What fun! Really enjoyed this one.
Clever concept to shoot from dawn to dusk. Love the pics. Would love to see you do more street shoots. I love the urban composites you used to create...they show you’re great sense of humor.
Hi James, just wanted to drop you a big thanks (my good lady got me one of your signed prints for Christmas)quick/quality service mate I’m over the moon with with it👍🏻
Looking forward to following your work into 2020
For someone who has only just recently started taking photography seriously, these POV videos are super useful.
Quality... Loved the POV
7 and a half hours daylight? That's whack. Also for a guy who doesnt think he's much chop as a street photographer you did pretty well man.
Thanks mate :)
"Absolutely freezing". On the day you filmed this, the wind chill here in Ottawa, the capital of Canada, was -33C. It's all a matter of perspective...just like photography. I'm off to have a copy of tea in one hand and egg nog in the other. Merry Christmas!!
I was out shooting downtown San Luis Obispo, CA today -- a little chilly, at 54° ;)
My god, I'll stop the moaning... :)
Canadian cold is dry cold. I used to come back from Canada and put on more cold climate clothing to walk the dog 😊, and still felt cold.
Thanks James. Fascinating video
Absolutely loved this James. More please!
Each shot deliberate and concise with a narrative as well. As a street photography novice you did good! In fact better than some experienced ones that I follow.
More of these please .... and what's next on your bucket list? Wildlife? Macro? Underwater? Sport?
As previously mentioned you can instantly see when someone is at ease with their equipment and that has an eye for composition. Loved it.
You sir are a genius, you managed to make Manchester look interesting on a dull and grey day (yes i know that is everyday in Manchester)! Great video.
Come over to Sheffield, would love to see your pics of the steel city.
The best street photography tutorial I’ve watched on TH-cam.
Good Pictures! I like them.Inspiring to go out again to the streets of Frankfurt.
I am hooked on your attitude and Knowledge :) Thanks for sharing
Your Channel is quickly becoming one of my favorites, for sure!! You’ve got awesome content, every time!!!
Thanks John :)
Nice photos, very nice video. That's the spirit! Go out! Take pictures! Explore your city. Learn to see it like a tourist. And mostly I love the lack of obtrusive music and want to be soundtrack. Thank you so much for that!
Birds and streets. Thanks for the inspiration. My home town has a thing with the barn swallows that live in every corner. Going to take some shots soon.
Loved watching this style of video James great work!
Thanks James, nailed it!
This was weirdly relaxing and somehow extremely interesting. Nice work. Can't wait to get my G9 out in a city!
Nice story! This is really well edited, especially superimposing the finished images over video of their captures.
Loved seeing you out and about in my home city 👍
I found this strangely mesmerising. Manchester is a great location for this.
I like how you show all your shots and not just the great ones. (Although they are all nice. So there's that.)
Very good job, James. Wish I could do photos like you when out of my comfort zone. Manchester is a beautiful city, by the way. Much more life on the streets than I'm used to.
Thanks :)
I love your channel and now this is amazing. Wish i was brave enough to do street photography. please dont stop it makes me happy when i see you have uploaded a new video! Greetings from Perth Australia.
Great stuff. Thanks or stepping outside your comfort zone. And thanks for a great year of content. I look forward to spending a few minutes with you (indirectly) every week in 2020. Have a Merry Christmas, a great Boxing Day, and a Happy New Year!
It’s Saturday night and instead of watching Netflix I’m watching James taking photos. I’m bloody hooked. Big inspiration brother!
Thanks buddy!!
This is one we all can done and I second it as being a lovely day in the city!
Cheers Brad :)
Yeh Manchester, my city, familiar views, nice one.
Thanks James enjoyed that, like the new format.
Fun to watch. Loved it and love how you're more than willing to get outside of your comfort zone on here.
Cheers Josh :)
Fun day, thanks for inviting us.
"Black Sheep", I knew you would get one sheep photo in there.
😂😂
Great shots..Love the panning ones!
Thanks so much :)
Absolutely excellent thank you
Enjoy your videos, and the way you talk on camera, it’s like having a chilled conversation! Love your work, new subscriber here :)
Thanks so much mate :)
Amazing video James. Very useful that you show the process of a day of city photography
Awesome! Cheers Michael :)
That is one of your best videos! I love to see how and what you are framing. As a fellow photographer, I learned new things. Thank you for, it, it quite intimate.
Awesome to hear, thanks so much for watching :)
Exactly what I needed. Thanks.
Awesome :)
I like your video, it shows that you can find subjects in any ordinary town
Cheers Marc, definitely!
Yes yes yes!!!!! I love these types of videos
Awesome! 🙂
I love how he's talking himself down in the opening and then the first two pictures he take are better than everything I've ever taken
Why you taking photos of me? "Cos I fancy it!" 😂😂😂
I would have just been friendly and said I am a street photographer and you made an interesting subject.
Haha, I just told the truth.. :)
expertly handled in my opinion lol
was wondering what he said lol i couldnt make it out
great concept helps the artist eye
Thanks :)
Thanks for another great video James! As an aspiring photographer myself, it's so fun to watch and see that you do and react much like myself when wandering a city trying to find compositions that work!
Thanks so much for watching mate :)
This video looked like shooting in the city was like riding a bike. You are well tuned to your equipment and it shows.
Thanks mate :)
Why is your self-doubting monologue wxactly what goes through my head whenever I try to do anything XD
This was a beautiful video. I think you captured the essence of the city quite well.
I love this urban photography exploring type vid, thanks!
Awesome! 🙂
Enjoyed this style of video, very inspriring!
That looked like a blast!
Good stuff sir. Keep doing more of this!
Thanks :)
more of this! very nice
I think this is one of the best videos you have done and very interesting photos, I would of snapped those pink and yellow scaffolding posts, just because they are unusual. Well done x
Thanks Irene, good spot! :)
Would like to see you doing some more street photography 📸
Hi James, recently discovered your channel and been really enjoying the videos, but this is the most enlightening so far. I'd love to see more of this POV and commentary style in other settings. Also, felt super inspired to get out and take photos after this. Great job!
You're an awesome street photographer, keep up the good work. You did a good job at doing the G9 justice
Nice. Thanks for that, always good to mix it up.
Cheers John :)
I lived in Manchester about 25 years ago (for about 3 years). We went back last year and were amazed at how high the city had got. Very tall buildings, all over the place. It felt like like an annex of New York
Thank you for giving us a take on your perspective. I really enjoy your videos.
Thanks for watching :)
This was so soothing to watch, love it.
