I am so damn proud of Dan Reynolds. From the first time i saw Imagine Dragons in 2013, he made every single person in the crowd feel, for that one night, that their struggles went away. He made sure every single person left feeling like they weren't alone, that they mattered and that he too understood some of what we might be going through. The way he speaks so passionately for mental health, for the love of music as a tool to connect, unite and inspire us all and now for the LGBTQ community, it TRULY fills my heart. He's using his platform to inspire change. He is making a difference with every single concert. I'll never forget that night

The Mormon church doesn't teach that we should discriminate or judge anyone. Many people misinterpret the Mormon beliefs about family and marriage and think that the Mormon teachings include shaming or discriminating against others, but it's not supposed to be that way. The teachings are that we are supposed to love one another no matter what. If someone who is Mormon has not followed that teaching and has isolated or disowned or made anyone feel less of a person about themselves for any reason including sexual attraction, they have made a mistake and have not practiced their religion correctly. The church does have strong unchanging beliefs including beliefs about the importance of family and that God has taught that marriage should be between a man and woman, but at the center of all of the beliefs is the core belief that we need to follow and love Jesus and try to be like Him, which includes loving, including, and respecting all people, just like He did.
Yet the Church came out so strongly against Prop 8. If not that many Mormons are not adhering to what they are supposedly taught than why are the suicide rates among LBGTQ Mormons so high? Also, if the emphasis is on marriage between a man and a woman, where can any LGBTQ member ever really fit in?
Mormons believe first and foremost that we need to follow God and His teachings. One of those teachings is that family and marriage is ordained of God and is meant to be between and man and a woman. Another teaching is that we need to love and respect all of His children, no matter who they are or what kind of person they are. To completely follow God, we believe that we need to promote and follow both of these teachings. We do not dislike or shame those who expereince same-sex attraction because only God knows their heart and their experiences, but we do uphold the firm teaching that same-sex marriage and relations are not in line with God's plan. Although it is not considered to be a sin to just experience same-sex attraction, it is against the teachings of the church, which we belive to be from God, to act upon those desires. This can be a challenge for those who are Mormon and who are dealing with same-sex attraction because those standards of the church do not change. I can't pretend to understand the struggle for those who are in this situation, and I don't know why some people have to expereince that dilemma. I know it cannot be easy to be in their shoes. But overall, we just trust in God to be the ultimate judge and we trust the unchanging teachings that He's given us on this issue, while we love and respect those who are dealing with same-sex attraction.
We don't make a judgment on someone's attraction not do we try to say why or how a person has come to experience that, but we do withold and promote those teachings that we have been given about the sanctity of marriage and family between a man and woman.
Even with all of these conflicting ideas, the best thing to do to find out for ourselves if these teachings are true is to read the Book of Mormon and ask God if it's true. Answers don't always come right away, but God does answer prayers if we really want to know.

Aloha78 Here are some of my thoughts. I didn't grow up in Utah, so I may not have it 100% right, but I am a Mormon. I think that the topic of marriage is one that is sensitive to many, and because our stance is traditional, lgbtq members automatically feel alienated and inferior. That's totally normal to feel, I completely understand why that happens. I also think that many members (intentional or not) tend to treat lgbtq mormons differently, and while it isn't always outright rude or disrespectful, the fact that there is a difference speaks volumes. I think that lgbtq members can find a place in the church through the central concept of Christ and His eternal love. We may not understand why the doctrine is the way it is, but through faith and prayer, we can live our lives in a way that truly brings peace to oneself and others around them. Please let me know what thoughts or questions you have, this subject is very important to me and I'd love to hear as many different perspectives as I can!
@@savannahk14ify the doctrine is the way it is because those were the values and moral beliefs of the man who wrote it. And that's awful. My whole family is catholic, but I'm not going to ignore the fact that it has been historically proved that the Bible was filtered by so many men through the centuries. Men, and not women. Also, the Bible is the account of some men of that time. In the Bible, there is a passage where it is mentioned that a woman must obey always her husband, and listen in silence, never questioning anything he says. Am I, a woman, going to accept that? Why? Because a mysoginistic man who lived 21 centuries before me, wrote that, and believed that that was the right thing?! I would be simply an idiot for accepting that as any kind of truth. The Bible is just a book written by men, for men. Do I have also to believe that the Earth is plain and not round and that the world was created in seven days or that we women were created from Adam?! To believe all that it is not faith, it is stupidity. It is ignorance. It is to be uneducated in History, in Science, in Philosophy, etc. If you really want to see all points of views, you should study philosophy and history and anthropology and psychology. With all that knowledge, you will be free to view more clearly your religion, your beliefs, and you will find yourself. Knowledge is freedom.
when we do something that are not pleasing in the sight of God we feel ashamed and discriminate or being judge by other but Heavenly Father still loves us because He knew that we are not perfect.

Sometimes the q is used for questioning. I prefer the more inclusive LGBTQIA+ that is sometime used. It includes those who identify as Intersexual, Asexual, with the plus for Gender Fluid, Pansexual, and more gender/sexual orientations not represented in the LGBT abbreviation. Honestly, labeling everything that is outside of standard definition Man + Woman sexual attraction is going to result continued acronym redefinition. As a LGBTQIA+ Ally, I would love to have an acronym to include everyone including hetorsexual M & F; something like just PLPON (Just People Loving People Or Not). That would take a lot of changes in attitudes/viewpoints though!

We all sin... Nobody is perfect. the shame we feel when we sin can make us mad, sad, or even blame others for the pain we feel BUT....... I believe God wants us to learn from our mistakes and temptations, He wants us to become humble, He wants us to see our weakness and if we do, we shall be made stronger. God gives his strongest children the toughest trials but nothing we can't handle if we always remember Jesus Christ our lord and savior and keep his commandments that he has given us.
If we pick and choose what commandments to follow....What does that say about our Faith in God's plan? Its wrong to blame suicide on any 1 person or an entire religion in my opinion only Jesus Christ has that authority to judge.
