Your method is the first time I've been successful at removing the "Proudly Powered" text at the bottom of my pages. I've tried a half dozen others and failed each time. Everybody else seems to want me to create a child theme and add code to the style.css file. Your method just works. Thank you!
After spending hours on Google trying to find how to do this - and failing - I found this two-and-a-half-minute video and it worked perfectly, many thanks Ian.
You know, in every theme, the way you do it is really different. This one is pretty easy. I wouldn't even search for a video on how to do it. But it's a good tutorial!
I normally don't leave comments on TH-cam but this one deserves my comment.......I see you posted in 2012!!! And I just stumbled on it today! I followed the instructions and I must say, that was pretty simple!! Great video & thanks for your help.
Hi there, Thanks for your comment. I'm not familiar with the Mantra theme so it's difficult for me to give you advice. The process should be pretty much the same. If I was in your situation I'd search Google to see if the theme developer has a support forum.
Hi @FORZAEnvironmental - I'm really surprised the code looked different for you. My tutorial was from a clean install. I hadn't changed a single thing. Just installed the software and then went straight to the footer file to remove that piece of code as shown.
Great video's, thanX How do I remove the Categories/pages that are in the bottom of the header-picture? I want my pages in a widget on the right/left side on the front page and not both places. Can't figure out how to remove them from the top. Hope to hear from U.
Hi Ian - great videos here however I have a website with a footer BELOW the footer that cannot be edited in that editor tab. Do you know how to remove anything below the footer? Thanks. Jonny
Ian Davies Thanks for the reply - its this website here - the three links at the bottom need removed but they are not listed on the footer in the editor as explained on your video. www.waynecountygatewaytochina.biz/ any advice greatly appreciated. Jonny
Ian Davies Hi Ian thanks for the reply. I have removed all boxes from all the footer widgets and the links are still there. I have no idea how to get rid of them, so any help appreciated.
Good idea to change it to your copyright notice and links to privacy policy (which is a must for any site) and TOS? My site could use a bit of work here and there...
Daniel, Yes you're absolutely correct about using a child theme. However, there are many users who wouldn't know how to create a child theme or have the confidence to try. My solution is a "quick fix" but it works.
Great One Ian, i had stumbled on this video, as prior to a week ago watching another vid, claiming it couldn't be done Simply.. But i have a saying i'm sticking with for ever - Their's a 101 ways to skin a cat.. Thanks to you, Our sites will look Professional.
safest to not tinker with standard themes and make a child theme, copy footer.php and remove the line there. This way it stays removed after a theme upgrade :)

That was one of the best, if not the best, instructional video I have ever watched. Well done! Thank you!
in the site you can see "Powered by Mantra and WordPress", in the footer. but not in the Edit Themes
Thanks Ian - exactly what I needed after a theme update brought all of this stuff back.
Hi there, Thanks for your comment. I'm not familiar with the Mantra theme so it's difficult for me to give you advice. The process should be pretty much the same. If I was in your situation I'd search Google to see if the theme developer has a support forum.
2019 and it's still working
Hi Heman. Many thanks for your comment. :)
Thank you MrRolaCosta for your comment. If 'Powered by' isn't in the footer, you won't need to remove it. ;)

Hi Ian - great videos here however I have a website with a footer BELOW the footer that cannot be edited in that editor tab. Do you know how to remove anything below the footer? Thanks. Jonny
Hi Jonny, Without seeing the theme I wouldn't know. Sorry. :(
Ian Davies Thanks for the reply - its this website here - the three links at the bottom need removed but they are not listed on the footer in the editor as explained on your video. www.waynecountygatewaytochina.biz/ any advice greatly appreciated. Jonny
Jonny Blair Apologies for the delay in replying. I see the links are still in the footer. Does the site have any separate footer widgets?
Ian Davies Hi Ian thanks for the reply. I have removed all boxes from all the footer widgets and the links are still there. I have no idea how to get rid of them, so any help appreciated.
Have you looked at the footer.php file?
how do I remove that on Mantra theme? I don't have even "Powered by" in the footer
the latest wordpress version no editor toolbar but replace with mobile, how to edit?
Thanks and yes it is simple and easy but I have come back to WP after a few years and forgot so helpful and nice and brief. Good teaching.
Thank you Tony. :)
It's located under Theme_functions.php. Almost near the end, search for php echo $mantra_theme_data['Author URI']
Thanks, Royce. That's very kind of you to say those kind words. :)
Hi, and thanks for your advice, I am facing write permmision issue, do you know how can I change permission to files?
Good idea to change it to your copyright notice and links to privacy policy (which is a must for any site) and TOS?
My site could use a bit of work here and there...

Great stuff! But wouldn't it be better to use a Child Theme when editing footer.php or any other file
Daniel, Yes you're absolutely correct about using a child theme. However, there are many users who wouldn't know how to create a child theme or have the confidence to try. My solution is a "quick fix" but it works.
