John Herdman will be the highest paid coach in the world soon enough... Brought our womens program 2 bronze medals (just won the gold in tokyo) and took the men from 73rd rank to 33rd (and itll go up again today) I bet hes already gotten TONNES of offers from your side of the pond. But i think Canada just leaves a blank check on his desk lol.....he cannot be replaced.
As an Italian growing up in Canada if you asked me years ago that in 2022 we would have a world cup in winter and that I would be cheering for Canada and not Italy I would say you're insane. Well here we are. I have always wanted Canada to make it but now my heart is invested in this team like never before. And thanks EFD for highlighting are team and talent
doesant it feel good to not have to go to a friends whos playing your italian team... just to get some excitement from opposing fans...I used to root for Holland or Belgium by family tree default.... Now we can all watch and celebrate together with players on Canada from around the globe. My friend thought Eustaquio was put on the team cause of the Leamington Mafia (they exist I live 45 mins away lol) paying his way onto the team lol... My freind got shut up REAL fast when he is CLEARLY out best set piece player.
In the early years on the Canadian Premier league, they came to my province Prince Edward Island to prevent excessive travel during COVID and I got to pick up over a dozen official game balls that they left behind. It was great to see the beginnings of an official league growing in the country, even if it is still small scale
@@crizz610 Sorry I don’t have many left anymore, I would send you one but I ended up showing my friends and giving some out so I only have a couple left now
As a Portuguese person, I love that Stephen Eustaquio is a pivotal player in this Canada side. He’s Canadian by birth and citizenship but his parents are both Portuguese and he was raised in Portugal. He also plays for my club FC Porto. It’s great to see him do so well and his story is amazing. He was playing in the fourth division of Portugal 4 years ago but now is playing for the top 3 in Portugal and is a key player for Canada. Amazing story!
This is not your grandfather's MLS; many members of CONCACAF national teams are finding their way into MLS teams, plus players from South America. We all benefit.
Agreed. I hope to see more from the CPL as well. Seems like a shot in the arm for Canadian football players to be able to jump from local club level/University to CPL then MLS... At least the framework is now there and more accessible to more players!
I've been honored to see Tajon Buchanan play his first 3 professional years for the New England Revolution. From being forced to play as a rb because of injuries in the team, to being a blazing right winger with a seeking missile shot, this kids future is so bright.
Wow! I'm a football fan from Canada and I love your channel, but I never thought you'd make a video about our country! Thanks for a great video and we'll see you guys in Qatar 😉
As a Mexican supporter. It has been shocking how far Mexico is dropping and how much the USA and Canada are looking like the real deal. I think it has to do a lot with the MLS vs Liga MX. So many young Mexican prospects never leave Mexico because they are paid extraordinary wages and would rather stay in their comfortable lifestyle in Mexico, or they don't leave because the Mexican club owners ask for ridiculous fees for any of their rising stars. Whereas Canada and US are CONSTANTLY sending youngsters out to Europe. And it's fair to say that if you are training in Europe at a young age, you're going to be a better player than if you stay here in Mexico or US.
True owners oversell their players in Liga MX so then you have these really talented guys who don't leave until 23-26 and it's hurting the development of El Tri
@@ratedpending and because of this they end up playing for mid table sides during their prime instead of moving to top clubs still very good but far from the elite level some of the US and Canadians could potentially reach in the future. What's even worse is seeing players like Herrera or Vela before him, moving to the MLS when they could've easily stayed in Spain.
Mexico eliminating relegation, leaving libertadores, and accepting to only play with the mls teams in tournaments has been the demise of liga mx and allowing usa to grow. Also the narcos in Mexico all the violence, that’s what is causing players/ “stars” to not want to go.
@@gordo9104 Mexico didn't leave libertadores though, the libertadores didn't want to change their match schedules which directly interfered with Liga Mx playoff games so they kicked Mexican teams off the competition. And a lot of the young Mexican talent don't want to leave Liga Mx because they are getting paid such huge wages in Mexico that for them its not worth leaving to Europe where they be making half and getting less play time. Its annoying seeing all these talented youngsters just stay here in Mexico
Excellent video, thank you guys for covering our beloved country! Crazy how far we've grown since I started following the team (and the sport in general) in 2012. Unfortunately Scotty Arfield doesn't play for us anymore (he hasn't for a few years now,) but we have a new CM now who's even better. Stephen Eustaquio is already one of the best midfielders in the region and is only getting better. Recently made a high profile move to Porto, he hasn't played much and when he has played for Porto he's been mediocre but there's always an adjustment period, I think Porto fans will see what an absolute gem they have on their hands next season. When I first started watching this team, a third guys were free agents and a bunch came from really obscure leagues like Malaysia, Lithuania, Israel, 3rd divisions in Germany and Spain. If you were a regular starter in MLS you were basically a lock to get called up, in fact our national team probably would've lost to most MLS teams 10 years ago. Now there are a ton of guys playing important, regular roles in MLS and cannot get a sniff. When Junior Hoilett first broke through Canada had to beg him for about 6 years before he finally agreed to play for us in 2015. At the time it was huge, he was immediately our best attacking player by a mile. Now, while he's still an important player and imo is still very talented, he is very clearly a bench option when everyone is available. I love talking about this team and could literally go on for hours and hours. A 9 minute video is nowhere near enough time to describe the entire picture but I think EFD did a great job summarizing everything and I think I speak for all Canadian EFD followers when I say I really appreciate you taking the time to talk about us. "We are a footballing nation now, you better believe it!" ~John Herdman
Never in my Wildest Dreams that I'd see Canada develop like this. I watched a Sold Out BMO Field in Toronto where the Canadians were in Tears witnessing History. Alphanso Davies watching from Home struck me 🥲. The Passion of "The Beautiful Game" is awesome.
been following phonzy since his days as a Cap. He was a forward that just lit up the MLS immediately as a 16 year old. I knew he was destined for great things but how it happened so quick it was like a whirlwind of craziness watching his rise and im so glad hes still the same lad he was in Vancouver. Hasnt changed one bit lol
Appreciate the Tajon Buchanan s/o. He played college football ab hour from my house at Syracuse University, and he was so impressive to watch playing for them.
and so far he has been pretty solid for my team club brugge , hasn't scored a goal yet , but i can see him becoming one of the best players in belgium next season , tho i think we won't play champions league next year ( i think we won't stop union sg from becoming champs) , i think he can proof himself he is also good in european competition
So glad you picked up on how Canada plays football in droves. There have been more soccer players than hockey players year over year for nearly 20 years now. It’s paying off because we have development programs now, thanks to the MLS and the CPL. Hockey is actually losing players every year now. There were 40,000 less hockey registrations this year than last. The future is bright for football in North America.
If things continue the way it is, and not Canadian talent is shipped to play high level football in Europe, Canada will be a footballing powerhouse in 20 years for sure!
Hockey has become insanely expensive to play. The equipment needed to play costs thousands of dollars let alone playing fees, travel and tournament costs etc.. I used to play AAA hockey in the 90s which is the highest youth level in Canada and there's less teams now than when I used to play. If I was growing up these days I would've played football/soccer or basketball due to cost alone.
Sadly.. Canada as a hockey superpower is coming to an end..not soon but eventually... The sign up rates for hockey in canada with SOOOO many single parent families in this broken family society (and rising inflation) has more parents putting their kids into football/soccer or baseball ($100 for the summer) vs Hockey ($500 in equipment, $2000 if youre a goalie like I was.. and then $500 in league fees for houseleague, and $2500-10000 for Travel hockey depending if you played A, AA, or AAA... No single parent in 2022 has the time or money to put their kids in hockey. Let alone travel hockey.
@@SuperStrik9 It's not just the costs associated with hockey that is causing the decline in it's popularity. As Canada's demographics continue to change, and as hockey culture continues to be very unwelcoming to ethnic minorities, you are going to continue to see this decline. Just look at the crowd difference at Maple Leaf Square when the Raptors or Leafs play. One crowd is an almost perfect reproduction of the city of Toronto's current demographic makeup, and the other looks like the demographics of Toronto in the early 90s. Over fifty percent of Toronto's adult population are foreign born. The country is perfectly poised to becoming a footballing nation in the next few decades.
As a 17-year-old living in Canada, Ontario, its highkey a very big W seeing this sport finally progress in this country, ESPECIALLY, after this world cup qualification, usually going and signing for local clubs are really expensive and money focused here sadly, but hopefully, now all the hidden talents and kids like me who love football or who can't afford to show their talents/skills as much can now actually show themselves more often, as clubs will begin to look into more and more talented players and skill-based players rather than just a pay to win money system, not only here in Canada but also in the US as well, a big all around W overall.
@Channel Name Who hates it? lol. everyone is just saying it. We are an immigrant nation here in Canada.. ive got LOTS of friends from europe who's parents moved here, and they call it soccer and football depending on what sport is obviously being talked about..but my one british friends arguement that. "it makes no sense, football is played with your FOOT,, American football is an offshoot of rugby, more than footy, If anything it should have its true heritage in its name".... and i cant argue that point. Even with the CFL being the oldest 'North American' Football league at 110+ years it doesn't bother me in regular conversation. But yes it will always be knows as the Mens National Soccer Team here... But that could change cause i dont ever see an International Football league Its never even been talked about....Plus the USA would just KILL everyone for centuries lol

@@xBigBean he has all the fundamentals to end up playing at the top level. his technical skills are excellent like first touch, pinpoint passes, range of passes, reading of space, movement off the ball etc
@@yalslaus that is why I can't wait to see him next season! FCP coaches have a tendency of working on adaptaing players firstly, when newly arrivals. Luis Díaz, Pepê, for example. Step number 1: teach the league gameplay and club history. This season or next season, he will have minutes and will have to pass these 2 steps to have a beautiful future!
What a great video. There is so much pride and excitement here for us Canadians. It always felt like the sport was popular - my dad played it his whole life, I have played it my whole life and every community I've lived in has so many people who play. It's nice to see the fruits of our labour. I've played against former professional players at times in the most casual of settings from leagues to drop-in soccer (usually formerly pro in other countries such as Jamaica or Germany) and their skill and awareness are off the charts, so much to learn from the world but it's nice to see us progressing in football.
Arch rivals? Sorry. As an American I love our Canadian neighbors and happy they qualified. There may develop some rivalry, but right now I feel nothing but pride in seeing them do well after being dormant for pretty much my whole life. Now El Tri? That's a bitter hated rival equal to any in the international game.
As a Canadian I agree. Just want to see USA and Canada shock the world. But definitely for a lot of Canadians beating the USA is a pinnacle lol. I just think the USA has so much good talent right now it would be amazing to see them put it all together for the WC. Remember Canada has to go through round one of qualifying and all those games against the minnows brought the team and players and coaches together before they reached the octagonal. The USA is really just getting it together now. Going to be a great WC.
Yeah as a Canadian, I couldn't be happier to see Canada, the US and Mexico all qualify. We're family. We do like to beat the US though as we just rarely ever do - in anything. You are even doing that in our own game these days.
Gotta say I appreciate the coverage, but Henry, a couple tips: Cyle's name is pronounced Kyle, and Canuck is pronounced like duck, not took. Great video guys!
I'm a French-Canadian who has spent the last decade and a half cheering for Toronto FC but always having to attach myself to the France National team and PSG to get a taste of top level football and keep the love for the sport alive. No more though! MLS has turned into a global development pipeline, TFC have turned into an outstanding football club, and the Canadian National team has me more excited about the game than ever before! Over the last 5 years I barely focus on Europe anymore! North America is growing this amazing game at a fast rate and I'm glad people in Europe are starting to pay attention to Canada as an up and comer!
Good summary and well researched. It is interesting to hear the perspective of how our game is developing from across the pond. 1 correction to your video though. Herdman did not give Davies his first start for Canada. Zambrano did. Davies was called up to the Canadian Senior Men's Team for the first time when he was 16, just days after getting his Canadian citizenship. He then played for Canada in the Gold cup that summer scoring 3 times and becoming Canada's youngest ever goal scorer at the Senior level. Zambrano was still coaching the team then. Herdman didn't take over until early the next year.
Its good to see new international teams develop in football. Its a beautiful game and its nice to see a country like Canada included in the world cup. I’m a Korean by ethnicity but have had time living in Canada. Led by Davies, should be a fun team to watch! Good luck!
Watch for Ismael Koné from Montréal coming up the ranks next. He was called up to the CanMNT for the first time this international window. He should be at the WC in november and won`t be long before he`s sold to a european club after that.
I was fortunate to have Coached Alphonso and Coached against Sam during their identification and inclusion on the Alberta North and Alberta South Select Team program. So I am, of course, a HUGE fan of these tremendous young men and so excited for our country. Lets Go 🇨🇦
The one comment I have with pronunciation is the word Canuck It’s pronounced CA-NUH-K not CA-NOOK Otherwise an amazing video and something I’ve looked forward to for a long time as a Canadian
They've produced two great players - only one of which is arguably one of the best in their position. It's not talent production causing their success, though it helps - it's down to a great management team and team unit.
I remember as a kid in the 80s soccer was red hot where I lived (probably because of Canadas 1986 World Cup qualification.) All the kids played it on the school ground the whole school year, yes even in the snow when it was -40 outside. Lots of students played in soccer leagues during the summer break from school. I did too for 2 years I actually didn't even know how to play soccer when I signed up, but all the kids were doing it and I decided to give it a try. I sucked at it and was terrible at sports but you never know until you try. I just hope this recent success in soccer will keep building and not fizzle out in a couple years.
I think the success of MLS in the last 15 years has had a big impact. It's more stable now and they are making teams that get lots of fans so far less teams folding. Three teams in Canada focused on youth development of homegrown Canadian/US players has massively helped. The stability of MLS financially means players are consistently if slowly improving. Canadian teams also have to have a certain amount of Canadian players. This means the quality of the average player has steadily improved. You've seen similar effect in the US where MLS may not have make the next Messi but it's made the "worst guy" on the national team a much more seasoned pro with a lot of quality experience.
Canada/USA MLS teams are investing greatly with local youth development. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver regional teams reap massively from strong youth development. more importantly these MLS teams come out regularly for scouting.
England is playing Tomori as a fool. I wonder if he regrets it yet. England will never give him much of a chance. Hoping Canada can make inroads on Marcelo Flores.
canada (and the usa) is becoming the new belgium (coming from a belgian guy ) , low-ish ranked about a decade ago but absolutely rocketted trough the ranks , and im sure canada and the usa won't stop doing that for at least 8 years im sure our golden generation is as good as done , and now a new one is rising in the form of both canada and the usa if they keep producing talent at this rate i can see one of them go as far as the final in 26
Yeah, no...The difference is that Belgium have always been consistent in football ( aside from that bad period a decade ago ) we always qualified for major tournaments and had some good runs ( especially in the 70's and 80's ). And even though we won't be as strong as our golden generation a few years ago ( although, it could be, we don't know that ), we're still consistently producing alot of talent.
@@deandoesstuff3371 yea true , we are (appart from the early 2k's) consistent and we are gonna keep producing top talent , like doku etc ..., And even tho i don't like it , the "rich" clubs/ owners buying our clubs to basically become feeder clubs to bigger ones sort of (like union , Lommel and rwdm recently ) can be a good thing for producing a new good generation for the future to maybe even better then our best 3 talent producers currently , but for the first few years from now the biggest talent is gonna come from Brugge , Anderlecht and Genk most deffinetly , but i honestly think as our best generation now ages we would drop to 10-15th tho , not forever im sure but i expect a drop after the 2024 euro's
@@deandoesstuff3371 but i think you can admit... the rate that Canada and the usa is producing young talent the past few years is gonna keep being consistent to , "soccer 🙄🙄" is steadilly growing , in the usa especially , it's a hotbed for potential world class talent , in my eyes the mls isn't that much of a retirement home for footballers anymore and i think these 2 teams (usa especially in the near future) is gonna stay consistent and climb the ranks to Belgium is gonna stay consistant with producing world class players but i really think it's highly possible the usa can overtake us in the rankings in the future My point ... I honestly don't think north American national "soccer" is gonna that inconsistent anymore like it has used to be for a long time
@@rodeduivel1000 Yeah, that's true, i agree with everything you said, 100%. I definitely think that they ( especially US ) can become like Belgium in the future. I also agree that we will drop a few places on the ranking ( probably between 10th -15th like you said ) but that's not a bad thing, that's still a good place. I think we're gonna be a consistent top 20 country from now on.
it's not "ice hockey," it's just hockey. Hockey played on grass must be specified as field hockey, actual hockey is played on ice. (this is how you lot sounds when you say "it's not soccer it's football" btw)
I'm really excited to see the ceiling of young players like David, Davies, Buchanan, and Ismael Kone. I think Canada's going to be going to the World Cup on a regular basis after 2022 and 2026.

No more watching games with my friends from england, germany, africa, south america, and rooting against each other... This team will be DANGEROUS...especially when we top Concacaf without Davies the last 2 rounds. LETS GO CANADA... ATIBA!! ATIBA!! ATIBA!!
FYI, Scott Arfield has not been part of the program for some time. He was apart of the team from 2016-2019 but has not played since. He was instrumental in our win in Nations league at home against U.S. :)
It's crazy to see Canada making such waves. It will be interesting to see how they measure up against more seasoned European national squads (outside of CONCACAF) but early signs show they could be a dark horse. Though nobody will ever beat Iceland for sure shock value. Their population alone makes it insane how competitive they can be.
Canada invested into academies 10 yrs ago and CPL and MLS have continued to invest in the youth and now we’re seeing the first crop of talent from that investment
Another video copied from HITC sevens lol becoming a bit of a habit doing videos that Alfie did previously you just wait a couple of months then take his ideas
As a kid born to a Mexican father and a Costa Rican mother in the states, I love to see concacaf growing more and more especially the Canadian team, I can just imagine Canada with Tomori 🔥
Its all due to programs in Canada getting more structure and funding. Getting Canadian teams in the MLS and them starting to use those teams to develop talent locally has been a major help. Also noticed more black kids from Canada are finally getting more of an opportunity to play at higher levels despite the favoritism/politics and how expensive it is to play at high level in Canada. Alphonso's story is a great example
It's CONCACAF, not UEFA. Both USA and Mexico would fail qualifying in UEFA. Italy have to compete against the likes of France, Germany, Croatia, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands and Portugal. Canada has USA, Mexico Costa Rica, Jamaica, Honduras and Panama. Italy would qualify against those teams easily. Mexico is on a massive decline and USA is inconsistent while recovering from a decline.
As a Canadian FINALLY YOU PUT SOME RESPECT ON OUR NAMES. You didn't mention Borjan who won the Serbian league as a starter and who has been one of the most consistent, Laryea who got a move to nottingham (hasn't started yet but still very early) Jonathan Osorio top scorer and legend for TFC and one of the better Midfielders, Stephen Eustáquio got a move to Porto as well. Liam Millar came through Liverpools academy. Theo Corbeanu who came through Wolves academy and Ayo Akinola who chose Canada over the states and Tomori who is a asshole. Who rather be barely getting caps for england then his home nation. This isn't Canada who lost 8-1 to honduras anymore. But love from 🇨🇦 tho. Next time invite me as I go to the games and been supporting since the 2010s
MLS and the move to develop and sell players to Europe is a huge factor. You will also have a fair number of Canada-raised dual nationals who will go to Europe as soon as they can, skipping a pro contract here. The CPL is a good development pipeline, but the bulk of the top players that move on transfers are going to be from the 3 Canadian MLS squads (and from some of the US-based teams, though the numbers aren't going to be very high). Because Canada is a smaller country compared to the US, they are going to be reliant on recruiting the overseas-based dual nationals to complement the locally-developed players.
canada is the new belgium , as our golden generation is fading , a new one is rising , and that one is canada (and the usa , but this is about canada lol ) , i expect them to keep skyrocketing trough the ranks like my country did , i think they will be at least 9th in the world ranking by 2026 honestly i think either both the usa and canada could go really far in the 26 world cup
The Canadian Soccer League is a major change. Canadian development was corrupt for so long and out money first so only rich kids would get a chance despite the fact that they were easily the worst demographic. Glad things are finally shifting. It hurt us for too long
Also the stats for CanPL attendance is far from correct the league average was around 3k which was brought down with teams like Edmonton having fall outs with management
We view Herdman as a reallly good coach both tactically and as a motivator. He is both, but he's gone far beyond that. I spoke with a guy who ran an academy and John has had monthly zoom calls for the last several year implementing standard training techniques, terminology to be implemented at all levels going down to kids age 7 and 8. He's laying a foundation and putting an effort into improving the football at all levels. Academy directors work with local soccer associations to provide detailed and standardized coaching clinics which are critical when you have a million kids playing and many of the coaches and volunteers won't have the knowledge of how to develop kids. These volunteers that don't footballing knowledge have access to standardized coaching clinics to teach them how to work with kids even if they haven't played football growing up as many of Canadians haven't.
Sam adekugbe needs to be talked about more as a footballer and what he’s done for Canada as well. In addition to his younger brother who’s an upcoming talent
I'm so excited to see my home country in a world cup (finally!) and I have a feeling we will be a favourite among neutral fans, and a lot of other fans' "second team"...
One clarification on Jonathan David's background. JD was born in Brooklyn, but only spent 3 months there before moving to Haiti, living there for over 6 years. Thereafter, he moved to Ottawa, Ontario, honing his talents and skills as a youth there before moving onto Europe. The video made it sound like JD spent 6 years or so in the US before moving to Canada. That isn't the case at all.
Both Davies and David had very decent grassroots within Canada's club system. Every school, university, college have their own leagues. Every new & upcoming neighbourhood has a soccer field nearby. Also Immigration brings preference to Football over other sports, also far accessible to families than any other group sport.
As an England supporter I would only want to meet Canada in the final. I'd love to see them turn over many 'bigger' teams, just not us. My only advice is that they change their strip to all yellow - because they're the biggest potential banana skin in the Finals.
To think that Canada's most vital losses were Jonathan de Guzman and Fikayo Tomori after Hargreaves and Begovic weren't available, they did a really good job.
Wow great video I just learned something new our of our top players are from Ghana and Haiti amazing our country just like the fans are land of immigrants. I wish these fine gentleman many success they have exceded expectations already reaching the world cup.
Great to see soccer boom in Canada and take its place next to hockey, basketball, baseball, and Canadian football. It's been a long time coming. Btw, it's pronounced 'CA-NUCK' not 'CA-NOOK'. NUCK rhymes with DUCK.
CFL is on its way out soccer is in hockey Canadian team has not won Stanley cup since 1993 baseball 1993 blue jays winning World Series great for the raptors but look at them now CFL is a joke
MLS played a major role in Canada's growth while the Canadian FA spearheading growth with the founding of the Canadian Premier League and a restructure of the lower divisions that looks to almost mirror Belgium's division system. By doing that, that could and should increase the quality of Canadian players, coaches and trainers going forward in heights that can potentially compete against CONCACAF's two strongest leagues long term. Hopefully with Canada in the FIFA World Cup that they could see a massive increase in the sport's popularity that benefit their domestic league's growth and stability for the sake of their country's players, coaches and trainers. As much as those three MLS Canadian teams have benefited Canada, it still not enough to grow the sport for a whole country long term. Hopefully the revamped Canadian division structure works out. I'm glad they are sticking to a division structure instead of copying the USA franchise structure. Stick to what the elites use, not the experimental franchise structure that produced hardly anyone good compared to the college to pro era that gave us Donovan, Dempsey, Tim Howard and Beasley.
the squad's large immigrant contingent is no surprise considering about 40% of our population are new arrivals or the children of new arrivals. and, don't forget, football is the most popular sport in most of the countries the new people come from. it's really our snarky canadian media who have kept all sports except nhl ice hockey and other usa sports from catching hold in our fair land. i think the internet is helping the new growth in canada: my favourite sport has always been cricket, but, of course, there was no tv or radio coverage or newspaper mention in canada; i had to settle for cfl, nhl and baseball. it wasn't until the internet came along that i was able to start watching and reading about cricket again, and i suspect the same is true for football fans newly arrived in canada before the 1990s. now there's no need for them to follow/invest in sports in canada or usa when they can find coverage of all their favourite sports online these days. more important, they can expose their canadian children to them, not as mere cultural facets, but as meaningful pursuits. i can watch cricket all night now; the only sports leagues on the continent i pay even one second of attention to are cfl and, now, cpl. the maple leaf forever.
Thats exactly right...large immigration from people conected with countries where football is the number one sport by far!! Eustáquio and Vitória for example are have Portuguese roots and played pretty almost all of their careers in Portugal!!Personaly Im not exactly a fan of these policies...but hey..its legal..and its working...so..good for Canada!!
It's great to see north America reaching a serious level. Because until a few years ago, they were more of an embarrassment than anything else. Mostly due to the fact that the US and Canada are great countries with enormous potential, and it was weird for such great countries to be so weak compared to everyone else.
There is a lot of talent in this country. The pay to play system holds back much of the talented boys and girls unfortunately from reaching the full potential. I have both my boys playing in the Quebec system, prices to play on a higher level have gone up significantly to a point that I am struggling to pay for them to be able to continue their development in a team environment. Probably there are other parents that are not able to pay at all for their kids to develop, therefore a lot talent disappear. Canada has to come up with a system similar to the European one , that would give the chance to real talented kids to develop, than I’m sure this country would give the football world a lot more players like Davies, David, etc. Congratulations Canada for making it to the World Cup!

The fact that Canada made the World Cup and Italy didn't... it's like we're living in an alternate universe

Most people don’t understand how absolutely instrumental he has been on this team. To me, Canada’s second best player.
The MLS has taken a more developmental approach with the homegrown contracts, and both USA and Canada's national teams have benefitted from it
This is not your grandfather's MLS; many members of CONCACAF national teams are finding their way into MLS teams, plus players from South America. We all benefit.
I agree back in 1986 they were no development league NASL just folded
No we’re to play

@@jdwagner1658 Herrera was past it tbf but I agree for Vela (tho I'm not complaining to have him over here lmaooo)

@@crizz610 then why the sport hockey is winding down ?
Keep practising and make the MLS then CANMNT!

It's nice to see my country finally get some recognition! thanks for the well researched video.

It is crazy that Canada will make it to the World Cup but not Italy
It's CONCACAF, not UEFA. Both USA and Mexico would fail qualifying in UEFA. Italy have to compete against the likes of France, Germany, Croatia, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands and Portugal.

These volunteers that don't footballing knowledge have access to standardized coaching clinics to teach them how to work with kids even if they haven't played football growing up as many of Canadians haven't.
was at the Mexico game in Edmonton. Legendary performance!!!
It’s a shame Fikayo Tomori didn’t chose to play for the country of his birth
It’d be interesting, but Most people choose to play for the country they grew up in just like Alphonso Davies.
Didn’t know Tomori is Canadian born! But didn’t he grow up in the UK?
@@SomalieDXB yes.
Davies and David wasn’t born in Canada
Another good efd explained 👏
Vancouver Whitecaps , TFC , Montreal Impact (not calling them CFM ) are a big factor I feel in jump starting registration in football leagues.
JD is American brother
@@emmanuelsackie4155 USA to JD: Wanna play for USA? JD: Nope, Canada.
Milan Borjan is my favorite, because his personality
Yeah, he seems cool
@@danielupsdell2697 then why is hockey are winding down dramatically ?
Soccer hasn't stolen any fans from the other sports. It's still just a game for foreigners like it always was. There's just a lot more foreigners now.
@@danielupsdell2697 You might want to do some research instead of spouting off the usual soccer zealot nonsense
watch out for canada in world cup, they are the suprised package
I just wish tomori played for Canada
Thank you 🙏
Davies signed for Bayern at 17 though (this was in the summer) but yh he joined at 18 in the winter after his birthday.
As a Canadian this makes me so happy
Bruh it’s pronounced CAH NUCKS not Cah nukes
Soon USA vs Canada is going to be the new Classic in the area
the squad's large immigrant contingent is no surprise considering about 40% of our population are new arrivals or the children of new arrivals. and, don't forget, football is the most popular sport in most of the countries the new people come from. it's really our snarky canadian media who have kept all sports except nhl ice hockey and other usa sports from catching hold in our fair land.
i think the internet is helping the new growth in canada: my favourite sport has always been cricket, but, of course, there was no tv or radio coverage or newspaper mention in canada; i had to settle for cfl, nhl and baseball. it wasn't until the internet came along that i was able to start watching and reading about cricket again, and i suspect the same is true for football fans newly arrived in canada before the 1990s. now there's no need for them to follow/invest in sports in canada or usa when they can find coverage of all their favourite sports online these days. more important, they can expose their canadian children to them, not as mere cultural facets, but as meaningful pursuits. i can watch cricket all night now; the only sports leagues on the continent i pay even one second of attention to are cfl and, now, cpl.
the maple leaf forever.
So much talent...two good players yes that's so much talent
This is ours on the concacaf youtube channel
as a Canadian, I couldn't be more proud, LFG Canada!
