Oh my those framed pieces are gorgeous. Maria is exquisite. That’s an interesting way to do the Algerian eyelet. I’ve always gone all the way around each eyelet planning in advance where to start to move from one to the other without crossing the center. In the instance when you have to cross the center in order to get to the next one, I just run the thread under threads as if I was ending the thread to avoid the center. While the stitch looks lovely when done correctly, I find it slow and tedious to do. You are right about Nicola. She is as warm and friendly in person as she seems on her Flosstube. I met her last fall when she was at Hobby House for an event. I wasn’t in the group but I came by to say hello when everyone was gathering in the lobby beforehand. I was greeted with enthusiasm and introduced to many stitchers. I’ll be going to her Great British Samplers Come to America this fall. I’m amazed at the number of times she comes to the States as the Brits refer to us.

Love your stitching Karen! I do wish we could sit down over a cup of coffee and solve my stitching dilemma!! I do all kinds of analysis, make all kinds of plans and then proceed to not follow through. Been trying to figure it out for years. I am definitely a process stitcher, like to have finishes, but the process is most enjoyable. After watching your video and trying to figure out what bothers me most, I have come to the conclusion that it is not touching all 50 of my WIPs on a regular basis...some go untouched for months...now I need to figure out how to fix that problem😊😊😊

Thank you…it is so lovely to have you for a stitching friend even though we will never meet. I did go to Stitch North and had an awesome time. My table is actually sorting out a table exchange for Christmas…it is so fun to plan this out in the months where we can’t meet. When I store my fabrics I aim to roll them so I don’t have creases in the fabric memory.
It is lovely to know that we are stitching friends, even though we haven't met. I love the idea of rolling fabrics instead of folding them, and I understand the concern about folds. I believe Kathy of Linen and Scraps does this. I just can't figure out a good way to do that and store them in the space I have. See you again soon. Best, K
Your framed pieces are gorgeous. Your FFO of the Barbara Anna was perfect and the material - add to cart! And the Red Deer sampler always amazes and that border is my favourite border I’ve ever seen on a sampler. I didn’t answer on the last video but I put my initials and the year in a place hidden in the chart because I don’t want it to be obvious so I will make people work to find my initials. Another beautiful quilt as always.

Beautiful frames for your beautiful stitching! I’m always amazed by the lovely frames you find at HL. It seems that when I check the frames at my HL…yucky! Must be that different stores have different selections.
Thank you for your comment. I have assumed that every HL would have the same selection because they don't make the frames at each store. Rather they are ordered from a central location. I have been lucky to have found a very good framer at my HL. She helps me pick out the frames. She has a good eye for it. I couldn't do it on my own. Best, K

What a delight...all those beautiful framed pieces; Hobby Lobby did your work proud! I loved the suggestions for using floss to match fabric for signing your work. I think I will try that one! I use the same method for fabric storage but ordered from Amazon, a Comic Book storage box with an attached lid that pops up like your cubes and that way there is no dust that can land on top of the fabric. They are archival quality and I think I may have to order another one soon. I also use Vonna's method for Overdyed Flosses but I have collected so many over the years that using just one File Box (flip lid with Handles) is getting quite crowded so I need to start expanding! Being organized makes stitching so much more enjoyable for me and sometimes, I just study my inventory and get inspired to start the next project! Have a great week and see you next time! xoxo

As I said, I don't have nearly as many as Vonna. I also put them into additional hanging folders to keep the threads from getting tangled together. Your framed finishes are amazing, Bravo! What treasures. I just completed organizing my patterns & linen. I also used the comic book boards as well, now I can see what I have, Oh my. I think I'm going to go through my patterns every once and awhile to remind myself of what I have. So glad you had such a wonderful time at the retreat/workshop. Vicky (the Virginia Stitcher) did a flosstube sometime in the last year about storing her fabrics, and her method is pretty much what you're doing. Makes it easy to look in and see all the colours right there in front of you (says this not quite organized stitcher lol). Pretty quilt. Take care, and happy stitching.

Hi Karen ,just gorgeous finishes ,and all the cross stitch pieces and frames just match perfectly.l cannot get my head around how people stitch on 40 count or even less ,as l have only stitched on Aida .but your work is so beautiful.🥰
I still stitch on Aida too. No judgement zone here. Aida even comes in 20 count which is equivalent to 40 count linen. The most important thing about stitching on high count fabric is to have good lighting and magnification. Happy stitching. Best, K

Your videos, Karen, are always so informative and enjoyable. I appreciate your mentioning your viewers’ suggestions on personalizing a finished cross stitch project. Lately I’ve been trying to do just that, except that with a recent full-coverage piece I brought to the framer, she mentioned to me that she would need to extend the framing to beyond the personalization, which, since that part was not stitched, would look odd… I agreed, so the personalization is there, but underneath the frame and not visible. Live and learn, right?
Interesting. I don't stitch full coverage, so I hadn't thought of that. I guess that is the only thing you can do on full coverage, unless you put it into the stitching in the same way an artist signs a painting. Happy stitching. Best, K
Hi Karen! Oh my, you are such a great friend!!! Thank you so much for your words of wisdom on my stitching dilemma! I do know what's bothering me. I want samplers done! I have 4 going, which doesn't bother me. I think the problem is that I feel pressure to get things done for our Flosstube. I don't want people to get bored with seeing the same sampler over and over again. That's why I am working on 4, so I can rotate. I am going to try 10 days on the one that I want to get done, and then fit in the other ones where I can. I also am always working on a small so I at least have something new to show. I do wish we lived closer so we could have that cup of coffee! You are so dear! Thank you again. I don't give up too easy, I'm sure I will find my way. I am curious though, how much time do you think you spend cross stitching, on average, every day? I only do 2 - 3 hours every night. I am going to try to find more time, but, like you, I also love my quilting time. Do you still walk 4 miles every morning?
LeAnn, I am so glad that you saw that video. I think you will be pleased with the progress you can make on a piece in 10 days. I agree with you that there is some pressure to show different things on Flosstube. It is a challenge. Like you, I rotate my WIP's so I have more to show, of course after I have finished my monthly goals. Since I am retired, I spend as much time in my stitchy spot and sewing room as I can. If I have chores or errands on a specific day, I run around like a mad woman to get things done so I can stitch. There are occasional days that I don't get to stitch at all, but those are few and far between. Many days, I can get in 6 hours of stitching. Others, only 2 or 3. Here is my big confession. This past season in FL, I didn't get into my walking routine at all. Not once! I did gain weight because of it. Even that didn't spur me on. I think I was feeling very unsettled because we were trying to sell our home. That's my excuse. Now that we are back in KY, we have rejoined the gym. Husband probably goes 5 days a week. I go only 2 or 3. I get three miles on the treadmill while he does his routine. Did you notice I haven't mentioned my walking routine in a long time? That is because it has disappeared. I am looking forward to your next Flosstube and the Turtle Tidbits. I love that. Happy stitching. Best, K

Thanks, good video. We get it for the Algerian eyelet or any eyelet stitch, good explaining it with your quilt. I always think when stitching will this show from the front - - same as when I travel a few stitches if Confetti stitches are involved 😉 or on some wording or backstitching.
You are an experienced stitcher, so you have learned to be concerned about what will show from the front. No need for you to do Nicola's method. Happy stitching. Best, K

Hi! Have been focused lol on my full coverage since full coverage February, slow but sure. Oh your finishes are fantastic! Strawberry bird is so understated and perfect! Love it. And ohh Dancer❤❤ I must start dancer soon, would like it done by Christmas however, we were just informed a new grandbaby will arrive in November so a stocking will be starting soon.❤ and lol must get to my mason jar done. I restarted it on smaller fabric but totem is a need to get done. We are going away approximately 10 days and won’t take totem except a section of background for car stitching so will have a break and do some others.lol was going to say where are your leftover pieces. I like that idea, have those bins but I don’t even have enough fabric total to fill half of one. But do like pattern idea and we have a plastic file bin which we don’t use much hmm that would give me room on my shelves. I don’t have a craft room any more so have to be judicious with space. So glad ypu had a great time at the retreat!

Hi Karen, I just caught your video for the first time. I enjoyed it and have subscribed now too. I just LOVE your beautifully framed finished pieces! Stunning!! 👏🏻👏🏻 It appears that you did not have the framer use glass of any kind 🤔. For my very first ‘81, wedding sampler for my sister, I choose not to use glass. I like the look better. She had it hanging on her dining room wall for 20 yrs ( until her divorce) then packed away for another 23 yrs. I got her to pull it out and give to me so I could put it on the “ brag table” at my local stitch day. It looked as clean as the day I gave it to her.
Now, I have finished another wedding sampler and a larger Jardin Prive Quaker sampler that I want to get framed shortly. I am still thinking of “not “getting glass on them ( also due to extra cost ).
Can you explain your thoughts on these methods? To glass or not…🤔🤷♀️ cheers 🧑🏻🦰🇨🇦
Thank you for being a new subscriber to my channel. Welcome. I am so happy that you liked what you saw. I so not put glass on my pieces. One reason is cost, but another is I don't feel that my pieces are in any danger. I am in a pet-free, smoke-free, kid-free home. I hang my pieces in low light rooms with no direct sunlight. I am confident that they will still look good long after I am gone. Actually, my kids will probably take them to Good Will anyway. Ha. I am happy to hear that your non-glass project still looks good after so many years. I think we are on the right track. See you again soon. Best, K
I live in central KY. I did not know there is a local group.
There are several groups in KY. We meet at the Scott County Library in Georgetown, second Tuesday of the month, 10:30-3:00. I know there is another group in Litchfield, and one that meets in E-town. Karen, such a wonderful video! I couldn’t keep my eyes off the red and white quilt behind you. You are such an accurate piecer and wonderful quilter. All your framed cross stitches are beautiful. When I need a bit of inspiration, I will rewatch this edition❣️. Question: when you go to Hobby Lobby do you have them cut mat board for you to take home to lace that fits the frame selected?
Thank you so much for your comment. Yes, my framer cuts the acid-free foam core for each specific project. I then take them home and pin/lace my pieces myself. Hello Karen! Thank you for your input on embroidery identification and organization. I didn't know about fabric and plastic. All my projects are kitted up and ready to go in ziploc bags. I understand that this is not good... how would you manage it with kitted project? Thank you for showing your beautiful projects!!
Catherine, Thank you for your question. I have my kitted up projects in project bags. All of my project bags (I make them myself) are vinyl front. But the rest is fabric and fabric breathes, so I am not concerned about those. Happy stitching. Best, K
I grew up in western mi too. I'm guessing Dutch community would be Holland. I grew up closer to Grand Rapids. Love your floss tubes. Did you sell your Florida home or are you going back?
I grew up in Grand Haven, taught in Holland, supervised student teachers across the whole western side of the state. We have the same stomping grounds. The FL home has not sold yet. If it is not sold by November, we will go back. We are paying rent anyway. I just hope not to be there for 6 months at a time. Happy stitching. Best, K
Did you use 1 strand for dancer? I have same fabric and started with 2 then did counting error and debating using 1 strand as rather tight weave. Oh and am doing square as love it like that as well.

Hi! Back to ask do you know what size square frame you used for dancer? Debating on round or not..
Thanks for your question. I did a quick measurement with my tape measure. It is approx. 8x8 opening. Of course that is not the measurement the framer would use. This was a custom frame because I loved the color. Probably a standard 8x8 would work. Good luck. Best, K
