Dennis, the Penn Delmar reel might not have a broken spring. When you engaged and disengaged the free spool, the screw holding the lever on didn't move, to me indicating that the lever is rounded out or the shaft is rounded off. You sure do get a lot of charter boat reels to repair. You'd think that one of the mates might be inquisitive to want to service the reels instead of just switching them out. That's my thinking about that. As time goes on, these charter captains are going to be up a creek without a paddle as the work horse reels become obsolete for a lack of parts. The Chicom reels are apt to become one season and done.
My dad just sent me one of those 10 bearing Chinese reels with a bait runner feature. I cast it twice, had 2 tangles, and realized that the design is absolutely terrible. What a waste of materials.
Well Dennis You Got Your Work Cut Out For You. Good Luck . Agree Some Reels Are Bad.
Thanks 👍
Thanks for the conversation today.

Hey Dennis, what are your thoughts on upgrading/super tuning low end or old reels?
I prefer to keep them original

Thanks for sharing - the number of bearings has little to do with performance is the design is poor
Garcia 206 junk
Thanks for the note. Some are better than others
