    It's a neanderthal, technically a human but a different species.

    The way the monster initially acted was very supernatural, extremely fast and all over the place, also felt extremely agile and strong (I mean how will you abduct a human (even child) with such speed that it didn't even had the time to scream). Then in the forest felt like this thing was running like crazy at extremely dark environment, between trees and branches. Later on we discover it's just some Neanderthals and all those supernatural abilities vanished in an instant. Was so bad...

      Agreed! That’s why I was disappointed. Love a good creature feature

    i found it frustrating, it came very close to being a good movie.
    id have preferred they went all out on the neanderthals being true monsters, kind of like a bigfoot that eats people.

    the "others" were in fact neanderthals. I think, with existential horror, holding a mirror to our humanity - with the hindsight of our knowledge of what we did to neanderthals, makes this movie much more horrific rather than it being some fantasy or spirit monster movie.

    spoiler warning
    the monster wasn’t a human????? it was a neanderthal, which historically neanderthals were taken out by homosapiens very quickly so it’s an accurate depiction in that regard. obviously this is your opinion, but i had the complete opposite reaction to the twist with that understanding in mind. i was so excited to get a horror thriller with a more unique premise that wasn’t just some lame cgi monster in the third act… wasn’t perfect but i don’t think it’s as bad as you’re trying to frame it just because you didn’t get a monster

      I agree. Even i from beginning was counting for the monster it doesn’t mean it should be one to make this movie good. This movie could be good in both ways. With the monster and without it. The clash between different homo species was accurate in fear from unknown. But the explanation at the end was not fitting at all. If they were god damn samaritans why doing Blair witch project and massacre the leader in predator way? The main character regretting killing them was also confusing. The other way of ending could be just some kind of greater force like predator to deal with. But the half of the movie would be different and longer then.

      Nah, I got it right away the monster, and I'll admit that the twist was cool, but the way the storyline was made just don't fit for me. Besides, we are not sure exactly if we caused neanderthals extinction, and have bits of neanderthal DNA on us, suggesting there might have been matting between our species and theirs. What if they were just more aggressive than us, and failed to work as a group? Perhaps it was our empathy and capability of working together better than they could, that actually made us thrive instead of them. Regardless, just can't believe a neanderthal, trying to HELP someone, would kidnap him. Not a believable story, in my opinion. They're, once again, trying to appear more clever than they actually are, going to the point of creating a new language based on ancient English, while not caring all characters have perfect hair cuts.

  • @bpo1975
    @bpo1975 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Well let's be clear and accurate: it's not "just another human," it's a different subspecies of human; a Neanderthal. That's basically the whole point of the twist. They're like us yet not like us. If you didn't get that part then yes, I could see how this movie would fail for you. I think someone with any interest at all in Anthropology would enjoy the film....if not, then yeah, you'll wish it was just another monster.

    • @KDawgzzz
      @KDawgzzz  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Totally. I can definitely see how that’d be interesting to others. I don’t know enough about anthropology to know whether it was accurate based on time period, location etc.
      Either way, I’m a sucker for monsters and wanted one 😅

      @@KDawgzzz So you a completely ignoramus on history and anthropology but ya like scary monsters ey? You should definitely check out SWEETHEART from 2019, seems to be right up yer alley.

      @nancode 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I like anthropology, and did not like the movie. Sure, the fact that we probably bring neanderthals to extinction (debatable, though) makes an interesting twist. But what I disliked about it is precisely that it pretends to be more clever than what it actually is. They've gone as far to the point of creating a new language, yet all characters have pretty neat hair cuts (if it was on neolithic, pretty understandable, especially after the bronze age), also the interaction between neanderthals and sapiens sucks a lot. Neanderthals, even being humans as us, might actually be even more belligerent than our species. Also, why kidnapping someone you wanna help instead of trying to make contact? Sure, they wanted to make a plot twist, but again, it seems a "wanna be clever" film, but has many holes. There is also a "racial" thing, which I'm not going to comment on, but if you also like anthropology like me, probably got it. So much attention to silly details, and yet, disregard for important things. Not terrible, but just a regular and slow paced movie, with a hard to believe storyline.

    No Spoilers.
    I think the final reveal could have been way more interesting. I'm ok with the twist in terms of story and realism, but I think it was very lame in execution.
    In my opinion the acting was something that took me out of the fiction, ... it's just a feeling... I don't know how to put it in words but for instance the moments they were talking at a campfire in the middle of an unknown land they felt like a bunch of actors doing their stuff, I missed seeing them paying more attention to the enviroment, or repairing their stuff, or displaying trained acute senses that you should expect from hunters, the natural stress of survival on their faces, etc. Maybe the one scene were they tried to show that was when the night is falling quickly and they are deep into de forest. That was a reaaaally cool scene.

    went and saw this movie with 6 other people the other night....every single one of us walked out of the theater shaking our heads and agreeing it was bad in how boring and seemingly pointless it was. Haven't regretted making a trip to the theater for years, but this one legit had me wondering if theaters gave refunds.

    You know, I got this channel recommended to me by chance. I see hefty potential here. You gave a very well worded review that I enjoyed watching. The only thing I would recommend is find a niche to make your reviews stand out. Once you have it, you'll be set.

      Thank you! I appreciate the kind words. I’ve had that exact same “niche” thought. I’m hoping if I can continue to make these videos, I can get more comfortable, and start to form that unique voice.

    in spite of its flaws, when the leader Adem ran out into the pitch dark that was one of the most intense movie going experiences i've had in a long time. interesting note. i saw the movie again the next day at a different theater. the projector may have needed a new bulb because the screen was on the gray side, while in the first theater the day before the woods were a deep black. with the gray screen the intensity of the scene was greatly diminished.

    • @KDawgzzz

      Totally agree. I was really invested during that scene. This movie would look so good on an OLED Tv.

      I think we may have gone to the same theater, when walking out I heard other attendees talking about how that theater is known by the locals as the shitty bulb theater.

    I could barely watch a flat review of this mess.
    So bad it's embarrassing. The preview made it look like it'd be the best movie in a long time...An unusual idea! But then it turns out to be The Village with spears. SOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDD
    I hated how they tried to make us feel sympathetic for the knothead who just killed all the other unlikeable characters. OOF was this written by actual Marxists or just lobotomy patients ?
    But on the bright side, it'll be hilarious to hear the Space Ice and Critical Drinker reviews!!

    Nothing bothers me more than paying to watch a movie and being forced to read the script while it plays out. They're speaking a language that doesn't exist, so why not just assume the audience, us, understands it and have them speak English? The reason you don't care about the characters is because you're constantly having to divert your attention from what's happening to read what's being said, over and over again. Frustrating is right.

    Yeah but the son said she was part of their tribe so why didn't she recognize them or know that that's how they hunt. Is that why she was an outcast she didn't look like them either.

    This flick captured the absolute terror that I imagine paleolithic people might have experienced in exploring new places. It seemed to me that every character had a different angle and personality to them, which I liked. The "Monster" not being a monster, but another breed of human that they didn't understand is the entire point of the movie. It's the terror of the unknown that's just beyond the darkness. something you can never see, but your imagination creates.. For me, that's the true horror of this movie, and I thought it did it well.

      LMFAO this was made by people who never go outside...Who actually believes this idea that darkness is like a black hole & you can't see 10 feet away from the fire at all?? Humans have natural night vision.
