"Kosei ya Jiyuu de Hamidashiteiku". ("With individuality and freedom, I'm gonna stick out".)
Atarashii Gakkou no Leaders (Leaders of the New School) began in 2015.
They still go by that name in Japan.
They've been known internationally as "ATARASHII GAKKO!" (New School) since they signed with 88rising in early 2021.
That's when I first started hearing about them.
The single for 'NAINAINAI' was their worldwide debut.
They are Suzuka (lead singer), Kanon, Rin and Mizyu.
Many of their older songs have a Jazz fusion feel, especially the tracks created with H ZETTRIO.
There's been more of a Hip-Hop influence on a lot of the more recent songs.
The most recent EP, 'SNACKTIME' was produced by Money Mark, best known for his work with The Beastie Boys.
'Pineapple Kryptonite' was one of the singles from that EP. I'd recommend the official music video for that one.
BTW, the "sailor outfits" are one of the school uniform styles used in Japan.
If you remember from Sakura Gakuin, there's also a more modern preppy/Ivy style uniform that's popular in Japanese schools, with blazers and plaid skirts.

As for your question about 'Nai' and 'peek, peek, peek, peek a boo' in the lyrics of English translation, The Japanese word ’Nai' (ない, or 無い, or ナイ etc.) is an auxiliary verb expressing negation, or an adjective meaning 'not present' as you or others mentioned.
On the other hand, 'Peek a boo' is translated into as the Japanese word 'いない、いない、ばあ' (inai inai baa), but it is often casually pronounced 'nai nai baa' by omitting the 'i' in the beginning of each words. So I guess this is a play on words. 'My places are nowhere to be!', it sings about the anxiety in the hearts of young people, but I guess it expresses the emotion in a slightly twisted way, or in a joking-like and playful way rather than in a straight and serious way. The girls are also choreographing Peek-a-boo every in the parts.
This same play on words is done in BABYMETAL's 'Night, Night, Burn'. The song title, when we Japanese like me who is not good at English, tries hard to pronounce it like English, it ends up becoming 'nai nai baa', lol.
Oh, speaking of BM, the tallest girl with the glasses in AG, is another 'Suzuka' born in the big Osaka city, Japan! Well, I think the other three girls are really talented as well. This MV (train version) is called 'live' at the beginning, but AG has some of MVs that are shot in one take, just like real live performances. AG has another MV for this song that was made in a funny way.
According to Wikipedia Japanese Edition, AG signed with 88 Rising, an American Asian culture label in November 2020, and the song was released from the label in January 2021, marking their worldwide debut. Until then, when AG were active in Japan, most of their songs was based on jazz, but from this point on, they invited a former producer of Beastie Boys, and since then, they have been releasing many hip-hop style songs.
Speaking of some groups based on the concept for schools, it is another group, 'Sakura Gakuin'. I guess SG is like based on the concept of a classy private school for children of upper middle class families (I heard it was actually like a zoo, lol). But AG is a bit older, really casual, and has a motif of normal schools scenes that I can also remember as 'Oh, yes, I remember that'. However, I believe the girls express them in a soft way, but pretty radical in the themes. Please react to AG more. Thank you from Japan!

ありがとうございました。I started learning Japanese last year and one goal is to some day being able to understand a song text of BM or AG fully. However, in addition to the three Japanese letter systems, the sometimes easy and often complicated and strange grammar (to me as a German) are one thing to overcome. Colloquialisms and youth language are a whole other league! So any comment like this explaining things you cannot easily find in a dictionary or grammar book are very much appreciated!

Saw them on a TV show that also had Nemophila last year and was drawn in right away, visually interesting and great groove. Some of there stuff is produced by Money Mark which to quote wiki " is an American producer and musician, best known for his collaborations with the Beastie Boys from 1992 until 2011."

I love watching these ladies dance, they’re always so much fun. I’m convinced that Kanon ( long loose hair) is boneless from the way she can move.
    I’ll suggest Kosame-Cord

Difficult to describe. Someone more into them can do that. A more recent vid, "Hanako", is their take on an urban legend, having its origin in a rumor that spread among schoolkids in Japan some decades ago, of a girl ghost that haunts toilets.

@@GlassMoonGaming Another official video here might be somewhat easier to understand (?) instead of this "train live" version... :)
"ATARASHII GAKKO! - NAINAINAI (Official Video)"
The video above seems to be about the changing of seating arrangements in a high school classroom (which is determined by lotteries at that school). Just in case, the song itself is not about the seating, of course, and the video would not be critical of it. In any case, as with HANABIE., the socio-critical aspects in them tend to be taken somewhat too exaggeratedly, I think.

Atarashii Gakko (New School) were formed around 2015 by the Asobisystem agency. Mizyu, the smallest girl with the 2 hair bunches, was already on their books as a backup dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and the other members are Suzuka (tall, glasses), Rin (curly hair) and Kanon (long hair). They were all child performers and dancers. Rin is on the hip-hop side of things with Kanon and Mizyu more avant garde jazz dance and Suzuka takes on the majority of the singing...although the others also sing quite a bit too. They do all their own choreography, and do it for other groups too, and collaborate with producers on the music and lyrics. They wear traditional retro school uniforms modeled on sailor suits, but are explicit in breaking with tradition. They've performed at Pride events and their slogan is "With individuality and freedom, I'm gonna stick out" which is very un-Japanese.
The song is about the pressures of being a high school student and the alienation that can result; the train has nothing to do with anything.
Their earlier songs were in collaboration with H Zettrio and have a jazz influence. You mentioned the "80s feel" to this song and they give the Beastie Boys as a big influence on them and they are now working with Money Mark since they joined 88rising to break into the US market, You might be interested in a short version of Intergalactic they made, just search on "Atarashii Gakko Intergalactic"

I don't know that much about them, but have seen a couple of their things.
You can see them as a Idol/J-Pop dance act who do some vocals live as well, their music isn't always hip-hop, some of it is more jazzy. And while they are not something that I would listen to necessarily, they are one of the few Idol/J-Pop acts I actually enjoy watching from time to time. Their videos are always entertaining.
As far as Nai goes, it's a negation of what was asked before it as far as I know, you can also use it as an adjective. So it can mean different things including non-existent, but I think you can also use it as an answer that something isn't there for example. I was trying to find da good example, but I am not confident enough about the ones I wanted to write. My Japanese certainly isn't good enough to take this as gospel, I might be missing something. Japanese commenters can probably help. I have no clue why they use Peek-a-boo in the translations though, possibly because it's difficult to translate because English doesn't really have a word for it?
I just found a full webpage with a couple of ways to use nai, they are probably going to explain it better than I did.
    Their summary says:
    - nai - ない : an auxiliary verb used after a verb, adjective, or auxiliary verb to deny its meaning. Probably this is well known as a part of Japanese nai form. Word orders in Japanese and English are different, but the role of this “nai” is similar to that of “not”. This is written only in hiragana.
    - nai - 無い (ない) : an i-adjective used to deny the existence of a thing. It is often translated into English as ‘not to exist’, ‘not to have’, or ‘not to be’. This is often written in kanji.

ATARASHII GAKKO don't have a specific style of music, especially lately. This song and a couple more of their latest EP are produced by Beastie Boys principal collaborator Money Mark from 1992 to their final 2011 album. Maybe that's why the music production sounds familiar to you.
Even if I really like ATARASHII GAKKO's newer music, I still prefer their jazz/pop/rock vibe from their earlier album. I'm sure you will appreciate their song "Koi Geba" which is a favorite of mine th-cam.com/video/ye5v9mOkDh8/w-d-xo.html
They also did a similar live performance to "NAINAINAI" with the song "Night Before The Exam" th-cam.com/video/w3venzR3TnQ/w-d-xo.html

@@GlassMoonGaming he is right about Koi Geba. Last summer in an interview in California Suzuka (glasses) said that is the best place to start listening to them. The mv is great and the music more jazz and hard rock fusion. The song like many of theirs are full of cultural issues from Japan. Koi Geba is about Teacher/Student sexual relationships. This band is a lot of fun but has some real meaning behind it.
