I've been a rotary nut since my 20's. I have to admit, now being 60, I haven't gotten hard looking at a CAR in a long time. I really hope we get this!!!

Many years ago I had 2 RX7s. One was Red and the 2nd was Gold. I only had to give them up when I started having children. I’m now 80 and still love to drive.

That is essily the best looking car I've seen in the past 30 years. It's absolute perfection. It's gorgeous from any angle. Mazda has adopted the most attractive design language of any car maker, period.

I’m a big Mazda fan. I purchased a new Miata RF five years ago and I never get tired of driving it. I LOVE IT! Thank you Mazda for
    making great automobiles!!! 😊

In New Zealand we need a minimum of 500 to 1000 km range.

The car is gorgeous and the idea of using the rotary engine at near constant speed to charge a battery which then runs electric motors should give optimum efficiency to the rotary ICE. This would allow the car to go full electric for shorter distances like inner city driving, while still supporting long range trips.
The idea of hydrogen is a non-starter. H2 is very difficult to contain. Eventually there will be leaks which could lead to explosions, a la Hindenburg…especially when parked in an enclosed space. Right now, H2 is a whole lot more difficult to obtain than electric charging stations, and those have been a chief source of complaint for BEVs. Also, hydrogen is very difficult and expensive to manufacture. If using electricity the efficiency of converting electricity to hydrogen is as low as 13% and potentially could range to 40%. That’s an environmental disaster right there. Being the lightest element hydrogen will have to be compressed, likely to around 5,000 psi in order to pack enough of it into a fuel tank small enough to be practical. That exacerbates leaks and serves as a hazard if breached in an accident. There are just way too many issues currently and in the foreseeable future utilizing hydrogen as a fuel source. The fact that you can’t pump it out of the ground and that it has to be manufactured is the chief issue. It takes energy, lots of it in order to manufacture it. The only carbon neutral source capable of mass production of green H2 is nuclear electricity and enviros go apoplectic over that idea. Wind and solar are just too weak, diffuse, and intermittent to be practical.
An energy source that could immediately step in, is widely distributed and is very likely cleaner from a holistic viewpoint is methane or natural gas. It contains four hydrogen atoms to every carbon atom. When burned it is significantly cleaner than gasoline. It has a much high energy content per unit of volume than straight hydrogen and can be compressed to much lower pressures making it much easier to contain. Obviously it’s not zero carbon, but it’s a whole lot better than gasoline and there is lots of experience using it in ICE vehicles. Practically all the taxi cabs in Japan run on natural gas.
Again, the enviros go nuts at the idea of extracting more methane, but if they will compare the overall environmental impact of methane vs. hydrogen vs. producing electrons for batteries I am confident that it will reasonably assuage itself. It’s readily available, and pipeline distribution gets all of those gasoline tankers burning Diesel fuel off the road. We cannot focus just on the vehicle itself, the entire energy production chain, and manufacturing chain (for batteries, electric motors, and allied distribution systems) needs to be optimized. The vehicle might not be the lowest carbon neutral user of energy, but that can readily be made up in other areas of the overall energy production and vehicle manufacturing.
Government subsidies of BEVs focuses only on the vehicle. Attempting to optimize just that relatively small component of the overall chain of extracting energy and manufacturing vehicles to use it is myopic.

This could be a "best of both worlds" solution, especially if driven on E85. A light, compact rotary engine could combine with a much smaller and lighter and vastly cheaper battery pack to allow all-electric driving at short ranges and avoid the diminishing returns of heavy and expensive batteries to get higher ranges. For longer driving distances, the energy density of liquid fuels and internal combustion would take over with no range anxiety because getting more distance is as simple and easy as refueling a conventional car. If nothing else, it could bridge us over until advanced electricity storage tech that is competitive with liquid fuels can be developed.

@EnriqueThieleICE don't have range issues. You don't seem to understand based on your multiple posts on this video that range and refueling time are a huge factor to most people who don't live in big cities with adequate public transportation

    • @TheRealVranesh
      @TheRealVranesh 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Just out of curiosity. Why? All I can think about is the negatives of hydrogen. You need heavy reinforced tanks for liquid hydrogen. Hydrogen density is much lower than gasoline, and therefore much less range on the same amount of fuel. Making hydrogen still uses a lot of electricity but its combustion produces less energy. Now add the powerloss due to heat and moving mechanical parts, you are back to normal cars but even worse. And worse than all, hydrogen power cars don’t make the sound we all love….

Uses 7 litres every 100km charging the battery. You can get better figures from a petrol or diesel engine. On top of that nobody except Mazda wants a rotary engine. Back to the drawing board.

Mazda continues to put their head in the sand.
This car had the potential to be the world’s only sub 100k all electric sports car.
Mazda, as the electric grid gets cleaner electric cars get cleaner. Lithium batteries with cobalt will be replaced with sodium, zinc, and solid state batteries in the very near future. 50% of Tesla cars already have lithium ion phosphate, batteries. They use no cobalt.
This is the ideal use for the rotary. Sorry no one wants this motor anymore. To many have been burned. In 2024 who in hell is going to work on a rotary. ? Make this beautiful car an all electric.
