That's because you don't understand how capitalism works. It is much more profitable to buy out a successful company, milk it for a while and let it die, than it is to actually pay attention to it or, God forbid, make something on your own. That is why the biggest companies currently spend more on marketing and lawsuits than innovation. It is not about creating, it is about milking what is already there... and then jumping on the next one. In game industry, we've seen it with EA. That company is STILL ALIVE after destroying countless IP's and developer teams. How? Capitalism. And many more are following their example - because THAT IS HOW YOU MAKE MONEY. A few years back, companies that cut off portions of the game to sell us as DLC would be dragged through mud. Today, it is completely normal and companies that don't do it are "nuts". There are currently those lootboxes and what not... but give it a few years, until companies realize it makes money - they are all going to jump on it just as they did on DLC wagon. In film, well, Disney is a primary example. But not the only one. Basically take ANY industry, take a few dominant companies and see what is their business model. Creating something new and good? No. Milking the old until it's dead and suing everyone left and right for what ever they can. Unfortunately, it IS good for business - business being the bottom line at the end of the year and not the happy customer. Because contrary to what you might think, you, as a customer, are NOT important anymore. As they said, they are practically making new customers. Corporations today don't make a good product for the consumers, they make consumers (that's what media and lawyers are for) for their shitty products. So no, here on Earth, we unfortunately call that a "successful company".
Iger seems to be deliberating on - how can Disney make Star Wars more appealing to people don't like and are not interested in Sci-Fi movies? And the answer he seems to have arrived at is to make them less like Sci-Fi movies. Because he thinks the SciFi-ish market will be huge. When in fact it is non-existent. I haven't heard of Star Wars gaining a single fan who didn't care for the earlier movies but has now been engaged by the Disney releases. Not one.
Iger and others making these decisions must have been so non-SW fans that they couldn't even recognize the OT appealed timelessly to a lot of people who were not even sci-fi fans in the first place. SW has never been true sci-fi. All they've done is mangle and killed the golden goose. SW had always been non-contemporary or politically neutral. "long ago and far way" , duhh. If the OT was really that "patriarchal" or "alt-right" as their clueless beancounters were fearmongering, the TPM and TFA wouldn't have had been so much box office hits as they were.
"my daughter can do whatever she wants" Well, good luck letting her transport a fridge four floors upwards. Me, as a reasonable female, leave such jobs to muscular guys. Also, unlike Rey, I am used to working for my success and not have stuff handed over to me on a silver platter because I'm female, so I doubt Rey is a good role model for anyone, girl or boy.
Exactly. They just don’t get it. I am inspired by characters that have to struggle, to overcome obstacles, to grow - characters that keep going no matter how unobtainable their goal. THAT is something to which I can relate, not to already having all of the cards stacked in my favor. Ugh, these people.
Your daughter can do whatever she wants sounds like a parent who is going to get her kid hooked on drugs and start hallucinating that she’s wielding a real lightsaber and can fly when in reality she can’t .
@@NeoWalpolean True, they don't. Rey is not a shining example of female empowerment, Leia was. Or Padme in Clone Wars, or Hera and Sabine in Rebels - those were ladies who were not afraid of hard work and did awesome, without the need to project their entitlement wide and far. And, sometimes they failed and needed help of others, but that did not detract from their courage and abilities, that just made them real persons. As a teenager, I preferred ROTJ to TES but even so, my heart just went to Luke - beaten, maimed, yet defying Vader with what he must have thought would be his death. Never, ever, did I feel anything even distantly similar towards Rey.
Exactly - so I guess it's fair to suppose that the Disney trilogy has undeniably succeeded in bringing huge swaths of not just new fans but a whole new type of fan into the fold -- namely those fans who have not and never will see the films or participate in the franchise community in any perceptible manner.
Maybe they got confused about which fans... like fans of SJW Disney instead of fans of Star Wars... because it definitely wasn't made for fans of Star Wars
@Bblurre Actually I meant more like "ghost" fans. You can't see them, they don't engage in any way but somehow there is an unsubstantiated presumption that they are out there somewhere in the ether nonetheless.
@@Nyet-Zdyes Agreed. Also I was making a joke to imply these new fans do not exist - SJW or otherwise. But you can't hand me a pile of asscrap sprinkled with tolerance messaging and tell me it's lunch. In my opinion it's not the SJW aspect that's making it bad - it's that none of the important things -- plot, character development, or even basic logical coherence is making it good. And I don't go to a Star Wars movie expecting to see a third-rate infomercial on the evils of human trafficking and war profiteering or the virtues of inclusivity but nothing more.

Rule #1 when try to sell and advertise any product: identify your target audience. When it comes to SW, that audience is mainly male viewers of the OT and PT. Yes, you can try to expand your costumer base to other groups, but you may NOT do so at the expense of your primary target audience or your product will fail.

The Stargate producers decided they didn't want their established fans either; after Battlestar SoapOprica got great press for only having two decent seasons out of four, less than half a dozen re-watchable episodes, and a random mystery-box ending that could have been scripted by JarJar Abrams. That's how we got Stargate Universe, the cancellation of Atlantis, and the cratering of the franchise after season 2 of Universe failed to even match Atlantis' worst viewer numbers.

I thought part of the appeal of genre fiction was precisely *because* the characters weren't like us and didn't look like us. And, yes, people who have no internal monologue and enjoy things because they're popular generally prefer mainstream fiction with genre fiction paint to real genre fiction.

Yeah, that's an issue Disney needs to squash from the exec's and the main stars. If they didn't bash the fans then the last Jedi may have been like attack of the clones where a lot of fans didn't like it but that'd be ok many people sold their soul to franchises to hold onto their childhood. Then Kennedy and Tran and such call people that didn't like it racists and Nazi's and trolls and such.......people are tired of the political preaching. Now instead of a movie that some didn't like they have alienated and made those that didn't like it spiteful, and even if the Mando is a great show it'll probably never win many of those people back. Don't bash the people in the seats they are what you bought a franchise for!!! That said when they bashed the fans I had no heartstrings feel bad for me to walk away from Star Wars. after episodes 4,5,6 it was just being put out for money. It's an unpopular opinion but I liked revenge of the Sith a lot, but it was made for money too. I knew that. I knew I was just a number as a ticket buyer. I am not pained at all to walk away and move on
"Disney had no idea how avid the Star Wars fanbase was." LIES! George Lucas TOLD them that Star Wars fans are... well... FANATICAL! Then Darth Vaginus sat there and straight up LIED to George about respecting his characters and promising they would live on as he intended. She didn't just kill off Han and Luke, but she felt the need to denigrate and demonize them first, completely nullifying the Hero's Journeys that both of them had in the OT. Why? Because AGENDA! That's all Star Wars has become, now. A vehicle for their identity politics-driven agenda. This is why I'm done with Disney and Star Wars. I can honestly say I'm not boycotting Ep. IX. I'd have to be interested in it to boycott it. I simply have no interest in it.
Its like Disney just wanted the name "Star Wars", but didn't want anything associated with it. They could've just created their own original property if that had been the case. But no, they went with the easy route and hitched their ride to an established property and placed their bets that fans would just eat anything they put out.
This is what happens when every property the SJW agenda-brigade gets their hands on. The reason they don't create their own stories is because they don't sell. They tried it. They failed. So now they look for old IPs that they can snatch up and completely stuff full of their agenda, figuring the built-in fanbase will spend enough money on it to get their message out. They don't care if they ruin the franchise in the process. Their agenda is the single most important thing to them. They're locusts, moving from one franchise to the next, tearing it apart and spreading their virus of an agenda through it, then moving on to the next one and leaving the shattered remains in their wake.

Well there is a big difference. GoT was actually well made by D&D up until season 6 and ruined after that by the same people. Star Wars has been ruined since its acquisition by Disney. The crash of Season 8 was quite unexpectedly; the crash of Star Wars is foreseeable since Episode VII.

Don’t see this movie. Disney is trash - they’ll crap on you and still expect you to give them your money! Wait at least until after opening weekend if you must. Make a statement.
No, it needs to bomb hard if Disney and Hollywood is to get the message. KK was an Executive Producer for a long time... Which means she's a bean counter.
"my daughter can do whatever she wants"
Well, good luck letting her transport a fridge four floors upwards.
Disney catered the franchise to fans: Fans that don't watch Star Wars.

They'll throw George and the fans under the bus.

Another name I have came up with: Darth Feminazia Stultus. The second word means stupid in Latin, guess what the first means.

The representation crowd are welcome to Disney Star Wars because it's as sad and empty as they are.
Exactly. If Disney wants to lose money and the woke crowd wants to shake their fists in the air, they're all welcome to it.
"It's like an invisible fan is whispering in my ear."
"STOP THIS SHIT NOOOOW!!"
"The neat thing is the fan is inaudible too."
The weight of a legacy is something you should be ready for when you buy a intellectual property that has 40 years of history
There's weight but it's also a stepping stone with lessons embedded into it
They even brought instructions off gorge so it's mainly a stepping stone with minimal effort required
And the pethetic wastes of space and air couldn't even do that
They should apologise to the nearest tree for having its hard work on producing air wasted on them.
@@aiden4917 you are absolutely correct, and the articles in this video prove they had no understanding or idea of what to do
@@francisstaines228 that would require thinking and reflection which they are incapable of
Because they are mediocre and ego driven to the point that it's impossible for them along with self improvement and accepting responsibility.
They could have picked a random dude off the street with a passing interest and the result would most likely have been better as well, it's laughable.
There's a good chance anyone who made the ot left long ago
Same with Disney everyone worth a dam who built it up is long gone
So now you just have leeches wearing the skin.
DR Death the wolf hahaha
@@francisstaines228 I disagree. They know what to do. They do the wrong thing.
"If you're not going to update a property, you might as well stick it in a museum and watch it get old" ~ I would have preferred that.
JJ hasn't really made anything new, he just recycles.
That’s exactly the same quote that stuck out to me when I read the article.
Maybe, Bob, you should’ve just realized that maybe that’s what you should’ve done.
Was that Junk Junk who said that ?
Han Lockhart I thunk he’s been sharing too many Twizzlers with a Wookie.
When people care more about Cal Kestis, Disney should know something is really wrong with _-Mary Sue-_ Rey.
Yep exactly. They care more a videogame character we've only had one game with. They care more for a baby Yoda that can't talk more than Rey. What a terrible character she is.
Let’s hope btw that this game gets more added to it cause it was a little too short imo . But yeah I love Cal and if Disney were smart they’d hire the actor who portrayed him in the game to play him in live action maybe even a series which would appeal to Star Wars fans who aren’t gamers.
I cared about all thos characters, even Cere was fantastically writen, that is how you write a fallen jedi, not what they did to luke, the game is pretty decent! BD-1 is super cool droid
'Diversity the cast to meet contemporary expectations' this is what's wrong most modern movies!
"It's like an invisible fan is whispering in my ear."
"They fly now."
Chris Wuebbolt Hahahaha
Or "They cry now", if that invisible fan happened to be Kevin Smith.
kreese 1984 Wonder how Kevin Smith will try to spin the inevitable failure that TROS will be.
I guess he should wash his ears, I have seen better information transmission in games of Chinese whispers.
That invisible fan in his ear was whispering "Stop. Just please... stop."
the article sounds like someone who researched SW and knows nothing about it
The reseach about Russian trolls by a university F grade student amuse me.
I have NEVER heard anyone complain about Holdo not being pansexual onscreen. But the "Russian trolls stirred up trouble on Star Wars" claim was the biggest red flag. If these morons actually tried to research this topic from an objective standpoint (which doesn't seem to be the case) they failed miserably.
Gary. Love your vids! I just joined as a monthly member. Congrats on your sobriety.... you hit on a very powerful message regarding that... how many recovering alcoholics are represented in movies or tv... none... this is your identity, yet you do not look for that in entertainment. you are happy with a great story without politics... well said. All my best!
How can they blame the fans.
THEY HAVE NO FANS.
They threw them away with the bath water.
There so entitled that they think they should automatically have fans, Lucas has plenty fans but they don't.
I am stunned. Did Disney actually believe fans have an expiration date like milk? Are they THAT stupid? Ffs. Its impossible to be THAT stupid. Yet they did...
They already knows it's failed and have gone into preparatory fan-blaming mode
"Bob Iger is an idiot!" Perfectly accurate!
Wish someone with an actual brain would replace him and replace him soon.
They turned the greatest movie franchise in history into a TV show. " Why make Billions when we can make...MILLIONS?"
I commented on Geeks and Gamers and i'll write the same thing.
Iger says "[...] If you're not going to update a property [...] stick it in a museum [...]". Coming from the CEO of the compagny that does Live-Action like "Beauty and The Beast" that's not ironic.
"Pleasing Star Wars Fans Complicates Saga"
WTF?!
THE SAGA SHOULD BE MADE TO PLEASE THE FANS AND RESPECT THE SOURCE MATERIAL.
Bhut, subverting expectations!!!!
The only expectations Im going to subvert are 2020 Q1 earnings for the haus of maus.
"Jay Wilson" part is a lie, a peace offering made up story on how that author sees an average SW fan. Pretty pathetic.
Unless you are Data the first time you got your emotion chip and tasted something you hated, you don't keep coming back for more!
I believed they killed Skywalker and did not see it again!
If we were all like “Jay Wilson” then KK could push her agenda with out consequences.
What's up Gary. THEY CAN FLY NOW. THEY FLY NOW. THEY CAN FLY NOW.
Palpatine: I'm not dead yet.
Jeff Epstein: Palpatine didn't kill himself.
"I really want to see that new Star Wars movie." -overheard in insane asylum
👀🤣🤣
Lol
I heard the Joker wants to see this movie. He will get the ultimate enjoyment watching people suffer while laughing manically in the back seat. 😂
having been in a few Asylums, no one would break out to see this Garbage Disney putting out,
@@Ancientreapers i could totally see that happening. LOL
I mean we’ll be the cause of Disney’s financial failure, yes. But the reason is the product you are selling is not the product we want to buy.
"... have turned to Mr. Abrams with hope" At that point I laughed out loud. How distant from reality can this journalist be!? Rian Johnson killed SW. End of.
Ah but Abrams is even more at fault for starting it with episode 7.
@@BlackangelKatakuri JarJar pushed Star Wars down the stairs, but Roundhead Johnson dragged it out back and shot it in the head.
@@BlackangelKatakuri Well, if all the damage this trilogy did was to shamelessly copy New Hope and add plot holes it would just be lazy writing. TLJ however took the universe and characters we know and love and shit all over them.
I wish I could be like rey and never struggle with anything. Ever.
So the Access Media can cite unnamed sources but TH-camrs lose credibility when they do the same. OK, got it 👍🏽
The Mandalorian was created solely to generate income for Disney and it shows.
Only it was created by Jon Favreau, a self confessed super nerd who went to see Star Wars in theatres as a kid and it changed his life. The Mandalorian is his love letter to George Lucas' original trilogy (yes he actually said those words in an interview), he said you can't create a story in this universe without respecting what came before it. He and Dave Filoni are in charge of that project, they are the only two who really respect what the fans want because they ARE fans! I would be happy if Jon Favreau or Dave Filoni took over from Kathleen Kennedy eventually.
Nerdrotic you have the best channel in presenting an informative, objective, analytical study on how I and many long-time die hard fans feel about the current state of Star Wars. Gary thanks for breaking down the lies and the public bullsh*! spins the main media corporations and Disney/Lucasfilms puts out regarding us "toxic fans". Watching your channel I feel validated and please continue the fight and much success to you.
It's good to know that multi-national, billion-dollar corporations follow the same rules as kindergartners. When you fail, blame. Blame everyone but yourself.
Even if someone is "bullying" the franchise with sexism and racism, guess what- this is a free market. If you want your franchise to succeed, you better make your fans happy or successfully replace them. So far, Disney has done neither.
"Canon was a burden." "Unburdened by star wars memories."
Dude should be sent to replace a felon doing hard labor.
Giving Disney another chance after TFA. You played yourself.
I told people after that movie that this wouldnt end well. They said nooo the last jedi would improve my god I hated being right.
Rin Wesley
I have met people, hard core SW fans that disliked both 7 & 8 but are hoping for an epic conclusion to the trilogy.
Main thing for me is context, if what I buy is made buy a douche, second thoughts will arise when purchasing.
Many people are unaware of the attack on fans, and when told about it, most answer: Can’t wait for the final installment!!
That’s when I thought: You live to play yourself or that you never realized ur being played, in both cases I pity you...my 2 cents.
"Why is it 'your' Star Wars and not mine?"
Because you too fell in love with it, so it is 'yours' too.
Isn't that the exact thing they are accusing the "toxic fans" of doing?
There are two kinds of people. Those who boycott episode IX. And those who encourage Disney.
It's not a boycott if you no longer have any fcuks left to give about SW
I just discovered your channel and am binging backwards.... LOL
"Russian bots", lmfao. I can't believe they're STILL using that to explain everything.
Wait, I have to read a novel, about admiral gender studies, having it, with aliens...
I tought this was for kids ? RIP Star Wars
I just rewatched Congo yesterday. Bout shit myself when the credits started rollin and it showed kathleen kennedy as a producer.
Lmao, 🤜🤛✊👊🖐️✋🤚👋👌 amy
Didn't she also "produce" Jurassic Park 3?
KK was an Executive Producer for a long time... Which means she's a bean counter. Important job - but has *nothing* to do with the story, creative vision, writing, directing, costuming, etc.
She signs the budgets the creative people use for the film and keeps people from spending too much money.
That would be like putting a world class CPA behind the director's chair and say - "Make a good film."
But KK has also held a grudge about not having enough XX chromosomes around her in her work spaces, which is why her story group was either entirely female or overwhelming majority female.
So that's another problem.
@@TheMaleRei Anything attached to her can never be clean again. Shame
What a day we live in where there are a million ways to say: "it wasn't our fault" when the failure of Star Wars was in fact Disney's fault.
1. Franchise Fatigue
2. Toxic Fandom
3. No Source Material
4. Marketing Misfires
5. Politics
6. The Patriarchy
7. Racism
8. Misogyny
God damn, are we back in the garden of Eden?
1. The wife made me do it.
2. The devil made me do it.
Take some ownership already Disney, you and your team fuq'd up. Own it, apologize and start over.
Fucked up hard.
i agree with you 100% about han and luke, plus they practically made leia a holy goddess worshiped by everyone in the resistance and we'll see how lando is destroyed in the upcomming movie
I forget which rule of aquisition this is.Good customers are as rare as latinum treasure them.
I'm sure they'll retract their statements and apologize when Episode 9 flops hard and the investors pull out.
Mr. Cuddlesworth Hope you were being sarcastic with the apologies and retractions
Classifying moviegoers into sects of 'relevant' fans and 'irrelevant' fans. Ahhh, inclusivity is such a fickle thing, is it not?
IF YOU'RE NOT WITH ME YOU'RE AN ENEMY
Obi-Wan; "Only Disney deals with such absolutes."
Relevant also the word California during those 'fan' interviews.
I'm sure the "Fan" whispering in Abrams ear is telling him to ignore story in favor of explosive action scenes with no sense of scale.
