I suspect they’ve pinned the excess fabric around the back of the garment to pull it closer to the model’s body for the photo. That would also account for the mysterious lack of fabric under her arms.
Wow! So glad I watched this before making it, but I was too late to save myself from buying the larger size bundle. With the 7/7.5 in of ease I might have wanted the smaller one. Love the video and explanations of all the steps! I feel so validated by all your comments on this top. I followed the “recipe” and didn’t end up with the “cake” on the package and was SO disappointed and also enraged. I did shave off a load off the sides (this resulted in raising the arm holes), lengthened the waistband, shaved down the cuff, the whole shebang, and ended up with something wearable but not something I loved. Really interested to see how things change with Mimi G’s guidance. I don’t know that I can stomach another go at it, but yours looks lovely, especially with your bottoms.
I have the larger pattern. Finished measurements sizes 16/37", 18/39", 20/41", 22/43", 24/45". I am so glad you did this video. I bought the pattern on sale and knew I would need to take at least 4" out and my usual 1" above the bust for petite problems. I sat down to cut the patterns and figured that I should see if someone else made the pattern. There you were. ❤️
Thank you so much for the sew along. It was amazing to watch a master at work - the explanations and way everything was put together has made me realise the amount of care taken has a huge impact on the finish, more than I realised. I learnt so much, even after 50 years of sewing. Really enjoyed it. 💕

I agree with your observations on the big four patterns. Crazy. I’m currently making a Butterick blouse and it appears that it’s going to fit without adjustments. Go figure! I’m happy that Mimi G is making changes! Nice top Sian!

I would like to see McCalls 8145 sleeveless in a dress either in pattern or plain knit fabric with the thick waist band. I would also like to see the top you made in McCalls 8145 worn with jeans. Can you look at sewing McCalls 8145 without the big collar in the cable knit from Higgs and Higgs? As the single layer collar might be sew OK on your overlocker.
I’m looking forward to the comparison video as I’ve been in that situation where the dress was a tent on me fortunately my sewing teacher helped me fix it as I made it around another project! It’s so annoying.
I am sewing a Scroop pattern, Eastbourne Trousers #1901. It gives the models information as well as the finished measurements. They suggest bust size for tops and hip size for bottoms…suggesting you grade to other measurements. I saw Mars Dilbert in a pair of trousers with button details at the pleats that I loved so I shopped my patterns to find something I could mimic the look with. I love their patterns by the way.
I’ve stopped buying the big four commercial patterns due to sizing issues. The independent designers give you all the information you need to make a garment size you’re happy with 😊
Just started, but before I forget at the end, I really like the jogging bottoms in that more drapy fabric. I know you’re not as happy with them, but no need to hide them. 🙂 Also, the stripe on the side seems to match the top almost perfectly, at least on video, so it looks like a matching set!
Hahaha 😂 Should have waited a few minutes longer. The top turned out really well but I could feel the sound of your overlocker towards the end. Poor thing. That was a clear vote against bulkier fabric for this pattern! ❤️
Sorry, but i don't like the way the collar doesn't seem to sit flat like the model's on the patrern. Don't thknk i will be trying this pattern. Great insight into big 4 patterns. Thank you.
Hmmm is that coco color tummies channel could be even a little coco perfume consider channel renewed indeed say hallo to mum and dad . Ahhh and let’s live on 👍🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🦹🏾♂️🧕🏿👌🏾😇

And also a lot of pulls or wrinkles on sleeves. I think it’s not worth trying for us.

I made this for my daughter in law and it was huge on her! She has shortish arms and she was drowning in the sleeves!
