Hi Tracy! I am so glad to find someone who lives in Tennessee doing this! I am in West Tenn and you have some of the same issues with gardening that I have in my neck of the woods! Keep the videos coming! Learning a lot from you!

Thanks so much. I am so glad to hear the videos are helping. Hoping to get my bales this week and get started. Wanted to start a little earlier this year but a kitchen remodel has delayed me. LOL. Glad to have you.

Nice thinking on the soaker hose pattern! The tip on watching where to put the tomato plants was helpful!

Hi. Do you plant directly into the bale?

Good morning. Yes I do plant directly into the bale. After conditioning the bales you have to make sure they are the correct temperature for planting, around 85'. I use a hand trowel and just dig in where I plan on putting the plant. Move the trowel back and forth, open up a hole large enough for your plant. I then take a pair of pliers and pull some of the straw from the hole, put a little sterile planting mix in the hole, and then place the plants. You want to always use a bag of bought potting soil to put in my holes so as to never introduce weeds into the bale. You can also plant seeds directly on the bales if you place a thin layer of potting soil on top and spread your seeds. I am going to be doing videos of the whole conditioning of the bales process as well as the planting.
