- Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Royal Navy personnel currently deployed to Bahrain have been treated to a rare royal visit from the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Edward, the Commodore-in-Chief of the RFA, spent several hours talking to the men and women who are taking part in Operation Kipion - the UK's effort to maintain peace and stability in the Gulf.
He spent time on board the RFA ship Cardigan Bay as well as HMS Middleton, which is one of the three minehunters that are stationed there.

You can see King George VI in him, he is a very genuine individual.
And a lovely day it is near Cardigan Bay too.
Very nice to see HRH Prince Edward , The Duke of Edinburgh paying a visit to the men and women of RFA Cardigan Bay , HMS Middleton , and the 3 minehunters . Great enthusiasm/morale booster !
Always liked Prince Edward
What a top bloke, Cheers
Blimey some of the comments dug deep for insults.
The guy does a great job and so what if he failed RM tests. That took guts given his Dad was Captain general and it would all be made public.
Hundreds fail but at least they tried. Unlike those criticising.

Nice to see a prince who hasn't disgraced himself
Prettyy below the belt stupid comment to be honest here.
Choice of a couple ..
Great job Prince Edward
😂😂😂🥱
@@alien4422, you beat me to it 😂😂.
???
I’d sooner it was Jedward.
This is awful! I have never seen the RFA so, so close to being just like the RN
Berets, Salutes and vaguely standing at attention!! What is the world coming to?!
Didn't Princess Eddy fail the Royal Marines??
Did you pass?
Yes@@normanboyes4983
How does it feel. Do you know?
Mr Mole @2:06 🦡 (I know it's a badger was the only emoji) 😂
he seems to be better
Any Royal Marines on board? 😂
Sounds like cosplay
🎉🎉🎉
Tragic ! I shake my head in shame when I learn that Cardigan Bay can carry 150 vehicles and 24 Battle tanks : We would be very hard pressed to scrape together 24 battle tanks now . In the closing few months of Britain's presence at HM Naval Base ,Sembawang ,Singapore , (autumn 1971),we had 11 RFA's on station , three of which were LSL's , Lancelot, Galahad and Bedivere , the latter under the command of RFA Cm'dore H. L'Estrange . I doubt we even have 11 ships of the line now, never mind RFA's. Toy sailors representing a banana nation.
I hope there’s no minors on board when Andrew comes to visit
There's no chance of him visiting.
He is Not visiting!
@phild5322 So why not? He is an innocent man other than in the twisted minds of judgmental people on social media
He has never been charged, arrested or convicted of any crimes. NONE.
Plank!
Great to see the Duke... another hard working Royal, doing his thing for the Forces... Well done.... Roger.... Pembrokeshire UK.
The guy who failed the Royal Marines visiting..... Sorry but as an ex British Infantry guy , this guy is a total waste of space anything militarily... I would struggle actually saluting him if i was still in uniform.....
😂 you'd probably fail RM selection too, you yoghurt.
Call me cynical, but I always guessed Eddie was made Commodore-in-chief of the RFA because it's a civilian service, and he never made it into the actual military.
That said, does he have his STCW certificates?
Lots of people try to get into Royal Marines and lots fail. There is nothing wrong with that. At least he tried, unlike an armchair warrior like you.
@@BBob1Stop making excuses for these over-privileged leeches! Why is a civilian wearing a military uniform? He should have worn a suit.
@@JohnFree007 He wears a uniform because of his position which was explained in the video.
And off whom are these people leeching John? Because its not us taxpayers. In fact THEY pay US (£400 Mn last year).
What an odd sight! HRH spent about four months in the Royal Marines, far less time in Her Majesty's Armed Forces than either his brothers or his nephews. To an American, civilian clothes is a better look for him.
Didn't Edward leave the armed forces because he wasn't good enough?
And your point is?
How little eddy has the gall to patronise the military utterly baffles me.
How would you know, you have never served.
And you have come to this conclusion how?@@PsychicLord
He's done a good job with them for many years now no shame at all in not making it through Royal Marine training.
Not convinced that being born a prince, waited on hand and foot and inheriting land and assets worth multi-millions necessarily qualifies him to be kowtow'd to by those who have actually served.
However, whatever celeb rocks your boat.
@@simongarthwaite7695
That's how Monarchies work..they are exempt. Patronizing is what they do best!
Failed marine dressed up as naval officer.
It kind of makes sense for him to have the ceremonial head of RFA position though. The RFA isn't military and is a civilian organization. He isn't military and is a civilian and the ceremonial head of it.
@@SCscoutguy, the RFA ships are crewed by civvies but it’s run by the RN, so it’s military.
@@johnnunn8688 if falls under the RN but it runs itself with civilian leadership. It is uniform wearing civilian service. I spent a good bit of time aboard RFA Argus.
The Royals get dressed up more than Mr Benn.
@@alien4422 Are you jealous because you have never achieved anything outside mummy's back room where you play COD.
Failed Bootneck
😴😴😴 Change the record you muppet.
Sorry your point was what exactly?
So he admitted he wasn't good enough knowing it would be made public. That took guts.
So Mr Smallpiece when did you do Bottom Field, Endurance course and the 30 miler?
@@1chish He has no right to be poncing around in military uniform, because he hasn't served, except for his failed Bootneck training.
As for my service, yes thanks, something slightly more challenging than Bottom Field and all that sort of nonsense.
Ah yes. The guy who dropped out of the Marines after they paid his Cambridge tuition.
He has no credibility with me I'm afraid.
Same here. He quit after 3-months of training.
@@JohnFree007 Yes he had the guts to say he wasn't good enough. Hard to do that when your dad is Captain general.
Not sure the RMs paid his Cambridge fees given who he is and isn't short of a few quid. And yes he dropped out which took guts to admit given it would be very public failure. How many blokes fail? Hundreds.
Apart from which in the decades since he has done a huge amount of good for his charities and in his other duties. He has a lot of credibility with me for owning up and carrying on.
@@1chish The Royal Marines sponsored his tuition at Cambridge. It takes more courage and guts to complete the 12-month Marine Commando course....quiting is easy!
He doesn't get credit for charity work. It's his job as a working Royal. NO EXCUSES!! He should have worn a suit.
@@1chish "guts"...??? 😂 😂 😂 He had no choice, he would not have made it. He was not strong enough. It takes great courage and guts to complete the 12-month Marine Commando course! It's easy to quit and return to his over-privileged life with his mother.
I understand, it's Not for everyone. This is why he should have worn a suit. Yes, I am a career veteran.
The RFA….full of drunks …😂
Drunken sailors
Yep I remember visits from the great and the good the Rupert’s all running around like excited rabbits . Painting everything
Were you one of them then old chap😂
@@patshiels5429 More like they get the lower ranks to paint everything.
What became of the drunken sailors?@@housemaniache
Why is he wearing a military uniform? He has never served in the military! He looks sloppy.
This is one of the reasons why I despise the British Monarchy.
Well when you come up with a better option that is non political, costs us nothing and pays the UK treasury over £400 Mn a year then get back to us.
He wears the uniform of his position so what? And he was no more 'sloppy' than anyone else.
@@1chish Other Countries do the the same without a Monarchy! What are you talking about?! He is not doing anything unique.
@@JohnFree007 Wrong. Other countries without a Monarchy do not have a Head of State who does the job for nothing, has no political position, keeps the judiciary, police and military out of politics and at the end of each year his Crown Estates pay all their profits to the UK Treasury. Over £400 Mn last year.
Now when you can find someone to do the same get back to me.... 🙄
@@1chish Nobody works for Nothing! The world doesn't work that way. Follow the money! Are you so thick and naive..??
Let it go and move on.
@@JohnFree007 No I won't let your ignorance 'go' John.
But yes His Majesty does not get paid to do his 'job' (which some call duty). Simple fact whether you like it or not. And certainly not by us taxpayers. In fact we haven't paid the Royal Family since the 1600s.
We taxpayers also do not pay for his costs as Head of State. That is all funded by his Crown Estates. That is the business that also pays all its profits to the UK Treasury every year. As I said that was over £400 Mn last year.
So:
He is NOT paid.
We do not pay his costs
He pays us over £400 Mn a year.
Now sugar off and find someone who will do that job on the same terms John.
Take your time.
