I was a Drake 12/88. In the second part of the video we will show you a Part 1 instructor disassembling your kit muster in 30 seconds with the windows open, happy days!
I was at Raleigh in 1965 and we had to lay our kit musters on the deck ,took time to make them nice and straight but it didn't last long when a PO took one look and it seems to magical to be all over the place ,but still had a good time at Raleigh.
When I did RN basic training the instructors were Royal Marines and Physical training instructors. They just pushed you to see if you could take it. I didn’t know what day of the week it was but they didn’t crack me as I was a fit 16 year old.
Not knocking how they do it now, however 60 years ago there was much more kit to lay out, including towels, sheets, pillow cases, socks, underwear (Pussers passion killers), shoes, case, Burberry, white fronts, black fronts, housewife, Number 8's, and much more. Each item had to have your name embroidered in red thread and each item folded so that the name showed. Kit was laid out on the deck on a pussers blanket. If the inspecting officer was not satisfied it was likely your kit would be scattered on the deck. Aaargh, those were the days (smile).
It was different back in 1966. Joined after failing communications course in Ganges, Spent 4 months at Raleigh before going to Dryad for radar operator training
I wish you all the best for your future, after being in the cadet force though, despite your age, be prepared to be placed in a leadership role with all the responsibility that comes with it.
I was Exmouth 42 , aged 16 in 1977. Used to dread kit musters. All this bullshit disappeared when you joined a ship though. Uniform different though. We didn’t need badges to remind us which navy we served in.
I was at Rally in 79 Frobisher block. And yes your kit had to be like that but where’s the rest of it, rain coat, overalls, knife, and when you get on your ship, you just sling it all in the locker 🤦♂️
You get given a kit book. It shows you how to fold all pieces of kit and how to present on different kit misters and captains rounds. It’s very helpful
huyton traveller what is found in a housewife kit other than needles, thread and scissors. Am leaving for training in a few weeks and worried there’s more to it than that.

A folding board ! WTF is a folding board ! Silks with Velcro ! crumbs the Navy has dumbed down, you don't even have to press silks now, do the caps come with the tally already tied on ? He did that in real time, it used to take us a good hour to lay our kit out for muster, where are his white pumps, boots etc !
At Ganges we could have had ours out in 10 mins or less. After the first few weeks it was always ready. I can't get over the size of the locker it's at least double the size of the 1960's ones.
@@GangesBoy I left the mob 15 years ago and went to Raleigh and I can't believe how much it has changed. We didn't have A4 boards to measure size. The old uniform was better I think or maybe I'm just getting nostalgic
Nostalgic or not I doubt if anyone thinks the new uniform looks better. It may be more up to date but they don't have the unique sailor look, especially with the horrible looking hat.
What a total waste of time and effort. I was at Raleigh in 1964 biggest mistake of my life. Managed to work my ticket in November 64, had joined in June. Its far better to join via B R N C. 😉

I'm a 70's joiner. Do you notice they fold everything to A4 size now? The old book we had to fold things to was half the size
This will be useful in the future
Silk looked as if it was made of plastic.
Was it useful?
Jake Oliver No
@@williamlewis4318 how come?
Yes it is useful, as it teaches excellent attention to detail, which is critical.

This is one way to ensure they leave with OCD.
I was once told told to have a kit muster by an RPO, during my time in the mob, 77/88. My reply was " i'm wearing it ".
Did you get yeld at or somet
Correct reply should have been! "How do you want me to present it? Standing up or laying down?" ;-)

In canada this is called junk on the bunk inspection exept in canada we get weapons that are also displayed on the bunk as well
This is going to be useful
I was there in '73. It's changed a bit.
Joe Turner After you conpleted your entry test, how long did you wait until your interview because they still haven’t contacted me

Very nice.
Do it the night before an sleep on an empty bed or the floor. Gives you unlimited time. Saves you from flapping in the morning
2 days graft straight out the window for a mildly damp sock. Hilarious 😅

Whatever happened to "book size" never heard of a folding board lol
