Animals die all the time due to human interference. It's really difficult to live an easy life in a modern society without some creatures needlessly suffering and dying. Even if you stopped eating meat you'd probably still eat grains and vegetables, and unless you grew those yourself, you're probably buying from industrial farms which use pesticides which needlessly kill besides pests, also bumblebees and other cute insects that don't want to harm anyone. And when those foodstuffs are mechanically being picked up, those machines automatically also kill dozens of small mice, moles and rats that live in that field. And then when the food products are being driven to the store shelves some occasional roadkills will also always happen. But even if it's almost impossible to not cause killing via your financial purchases, you can at least attempt to minimize it via letting your morals speak louder than your hedonistic desire for your taste buds to feel a certain way. It's pretty common knowledge now that your average cow generates milk and muscle mass from less than 20% of what it eats, and they do eat a lot and need a lot of fields for their upkeep. Upkeeping fields of course causes death, and then the animal this feed is fed to is also killed so yeah nice gg, the same issues as with your average vegetable except 80% worse. I've been a vegetarian myself personally for half my life and don't really miss the taste of certain foods. I don't eat these replacement foods usually either. Just eat food from culinary cultures that have a long tradition of vegetarianism like India or China. Use stuff like beans or tofu, that works for protein.
