I remember the tragedy of Guinsaugon so well. The news was covered on Belgian television and as I was still married to my Ormocanon ex-wife at the time, I followed it with great interest. It's sad that so many lives were taken. A whole schoolbuilding was covered with mud. Some of the teachers still had contact with their families by cellphone asking them to send help, but the rescue workers were helpless. All they could use was a shovel, as their heavy equipment would sink in the mud. It must have been awful to die of suffocation once their oxigen ran out! Everyone in Guinsaugon died that day, except for those who were out working in another barangay and even these people couldn't be called "lucky", because they lost their whole family. The Philippines is a beautiful country, but I guess the risk of succumbing through force of nature is significantly higher than in the west. It's something one mustn't think of when going there, but at the same time we cannot help remembering that the lives of 3000 people ended too soon.
Thank you so much for visiting and promoting my beloved hometown😃 Truly, Saint Bernard is not just all about the tremendous and dreadful landslide 15 years ago but there is more to it. Hope you can visit again soon!😊
Yes! Saint Bernard is beautiful! We immediately fell in love with Cabalian Bay when we first arrived. Refreshing sad kaayo and Hindag-an Falls and timing there weren't so many people around despite its popularity. We'll definitely be back soon. Cheers! :)
Yes correct mo sir mga unahin natin ang sariling atin kc kung maraming mas magagandang tourism spot ang Leyte at Southern Leyte. Goodluck sa inyo guys and may God bless both of you.

If the town is named after St. Bernard then how can the patron saint be St. Isodor??
The town is named after former Governor Bernardo Torres :)
